PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. 22nd July last, from the shop of R. JAFFE, LTD., 344 Queen Street, a bolt (about 30 yd.) of black cloth with white pin stripes about £ in. apart, 30 in. wide, double width ; value, £22 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland.— During the night of 24th-25th July last, from a factory in the course of construction in Portage Road, the property of JOHN EDWARD SLATTERY, Astlcy Avenue, New Lynn, an S-lavatory pan of New Zealand make ; two S-lavatory pans of English make, Dimondia brand, one has chip off pedestal and the other has chip off right side; four low-down cisterns, “ Wudline, Hardleys, Ltd.” on lids ; three 1£ in. P lead-traps ; four 1£ in. lead flush-pipes ; and a sugar-sack containing a quantity of f in. and h in. galvanized pipe-fittings; total value, £24 13s. Identifiable except cisterns and pipe-fittings.

Auckland. —2nd July last, from a motor-car in Sylvan Avenue, Mount Eden, the property of HENERY CEDRIC ROYCE DAWSON, 29 Grafton Road, a gentlemen^doublebreasted navy-blue heavy velour overcoat with navy-blue lining, “ George Connell” on tag at neck, right lapel and left pocket repaired; a gentlemen’s green sports coat with red checks about 2 in. square, size 5, black and white check lining, “ H. Dawson ” and a date on lining of left sleeve, “ Hugh Wright, Ltd.” on tag at neck; a pair of air-force blue sports trousers, size 5 ; a navy-blue heavy woollen jersey with zipfastener ; a Home Guard armlet; and a sheet of three-gallon coupons ; total value, £8 ss. Identifiable except armlet and coupons.

Auckland. — or 2nd July last, from the dwelling of PEARL AGNUS PEARSON, 134 Victoria Street, a gold locket (recovered); a ladies’ 9 ct. gold ring, set with a large diamond in centre of a cluster of about six diamonds in silver or platinum setting, but two are now missing, and originally set with three small diamonds on each shoulder, but one diamond is now missing; total value, £l4. Identifiable. On the 4th July last the locket was put through the letteropening in the front door.

Auckland. —llth July last, the property of OUIDA BELGUIM MILLER, 427 Point Chevalier Road, a ladies’ navy-blue suede handbag with bow of same material, 10 in. by 8 in., fawn silk lining, containing £9 in money ; an Auckland Savings-bank book (Newton Branch), No. 37121, showing a credit balance of £2O 10s. 9d. ;> a pink metal round powder-case; and a white linen handkerchief; total value, £lO. Identifiable except money. Complainant left the handbag on a counter in McKenzie’s shop, Karangahape Road. The offence may have been committed by Dorothy William, alias Mary Hill, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 794, and Photographs, 1924, page 23. She has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. — 27th or 28th ultimo, from a shed at a dwelling in the course of construction in Landscape Road, Mount Roskill, the property of MAURICE APPLETON, 43 Seafield View Road, Grafton, an aluminium-coloured metal spirit level, 30 in. by 2£ in. by 1 J in., six spirit bubbles of concave shape each with separate adjustment, file-marks near centre spirit bubble and on one end, “ Empire Manufacturing Company, Milwaukee, Wis.” and “ Made in U.S.A.” on it (it is considered to be the only one of its kind in the city); and a saw-cover of light-grey canvas duck material to hold three saws, pocket at side for level, and strip of leather on each side to protect cover from teeth; total value, £3 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. — the night of the 18th-19th July last, the shop of ARTHUR NORMAN CLEWS, tobacconist, Great South Road, Papakura, was broken into and the following stolen: A large quantity of cigarettes, tobacco, and cigarette-papers of various brands ; twenty-four packets of Gillette razor-blades; twelye packets of Minora safetyrazor blades; nine bottles of Brylcreem hair-lotion; and three Globcmen blade razors with representation of two men holding a globe and “ Made in Germany ” on blades, black handles which may have numbers on them in ink, one in small leather case and the others in cardboard cases; total value, £ls 18s. 9d. Auckland. —During the night of the 18th-19th July last, the shop of JOHN WALTER WRIGHT, jeweller, King Street, Pukekohe, was broken into and the following stolen: £ll Is. 3d. in money; a ladies’ 9 ct. gold wristlet watch, square with slightly rounded corners, round dial about size of a shilling, Roman numerals, rolled-gold expanding-wristlet a link of which has been repaired; a ladies’ 9 ct. gold signet ring, square top with Joy on it; a deep cream-coloured graduated pearl necklace of three strands, largest pearl about size of a pea, fitted with diamante clasp; four black fountainpens with gold nibs, Made in England on them, each in box with “ Regent Pen ”on it; a ladies’ 9 ct. gold signet ring with gold horseshoe with “ E ” thereon ; a gentlemen’s nickel open-face pocket watch, white dial with “ Holman, Thames ”in black letters on it, black Roman numerals; a gentlemen’s chromium oblong wristlet watch with luminous Roman numerals, black leather wrist-strap ; a gentlemen’s gun-metal open-face pocket watch, black Roman numerals,repair No. 1212 scratched on inside back case ; a gentlemen’s rolled-gold (which is mostly worn off) oblong wristlet watch, Arabic numerals, B. 1214 and 555 scratched on inside case; a ladies’ 9 ct. gold round Rolex wristlet watch with white dial and black Roman numerals, repair No. B. 1207 scratched on inside case, 9 ct. gold expanding-bracelet with slide catch; a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold ring originally a signet ring with square top but is now set with a light-orange coloured topaz ; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold ring, set with diamond and ruby, and is broken in three places; an 18 ct. gold wedding ring which is broken; a gentlemen’s chromium wristlet watch, Geneva movement, black Roman numerals, repair No. B. 1215 scratched on inside back case; and a gentlemen’s chromium wristlet watch with black Arabic numerals, hands missing; total value, £63 Is. 3d. Portion identifiable. About the f same time an attempt was made to break and enter the shops of GEORGE PAYNE, mens’ outfitter, King Street, Pukekohe, and MARRIOTT’S STORES, LTD., Great South Road, Papakura. It is considered that these offences and that referred to in preceding paragraph were committed by the same offender as the instrument marks left on the doors are similar.

Parnell. — 20th and 22nd July last, from a room at 23 Bath Street, the property of HARRY ANDREW HALL, a navy-blue suit of herringbone pattern, fit small man, Hugh Wright’s brand on inside coat pocket, vest has been let out about 1 in. on each side; value, £6. Identii fiable. / Suspicion is attached to George Albert Edwards, 1 referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 588, and Photographs, 1934, page 50. Wellington. 2oth instant, from a room in the Hotel Cecil, the property of SUSANNA,HANAN, 356 High Street, Dunedin, a silver fox fur comprising head, tail, and four legs, posie of coloured artificial - flowers on it, brown silk lining, purchased from Mooney and Co., Dunedin; a red marocain dress with pleats down front, W size; a black silk dress with long sleeves, trimmed with kilting, panniers down back, “ Madame Codier, 21 Saville Row, London ”on tag; a navyblue blouse with long sleeves and Hungarian embroidery; a black leather suitcase, 30 in. by 18 in., purchased from Hovenden and Son, London, lined with blue satin, containing two white shirts, size 15 ; six white collars ; a set of gentlemen’s grey and blue pyjamas; a pair of woollen underpants; a gentlemen’s woollen singlet; a pair of socks; three gentlemen’s white handkerchiefs; a silk nightdress ; two pairs of pink silk bloomers; three baby’s white knitted singlets; a pair of baby’s blue and white woollen socks; an imitation pearl necklace of rope type; a pair of ladies’ white kid gloves trimmed with black kid; twelve postcards depicting historical English scenes; and a mauve velvet scarf; total value, about £47 11s. Portion identifiable.

Wellington. 2Bth or 29th ultimo, from a cloakroom in the Royal Oak Hotel, Cuba Street, the property of CLIVE LIONEL CROWLEY, 129 Clyde Road, Christchurch, a gentlemen’s double-breasted brown striped tweed overcoat with brown check lining, Driklad make, belt attached, size 5; and a pair of gentlemen’s brown deer-skin gloves; total value, £8 18s. Identifiable.

Wellington. sth instant, from a passage-way in Garland’s restaurant, Manners Street, the property of ALFRED EDWARD, TARRANT, 22 Aitken Street, a gentlemen’s grey tweed overcoat with blue and red checks, “ Kelsam ” brand on neck, five mottled grey buttons on front, two small buttons on each sleeve ; and a pair of brown hogskin gloves, size 9; total value, £9 3s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 6 in., curly dark hair, small moustache; smartly dressed in a dark suit (no hat). He was seen leaving the passage-way with a coat rolled up underneath his arm.

Motueka. Between the 16th March last and 10th April, the dwelling of VICTOR ROBERT STADE, Lower Moutere, was broken into and the following stolen: A gentlemen’s large double-breasted dark tweed overcoat with white lines, lined with dark material, “ Glassons Ltd.” on tag; several pairs of woollen socks; two rim-lock keys ; and a light-grey suit coat with pin stripes, size 5 ; total value, about £9. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Les Pearce, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, slight build, fresh complexion, dark hair turning grey; wearing a brown suit and felt hat. He was frequently seen near complainant’s dwelling, and on the 10th April last he was seen wearing an overcoat similar to that described above. On the 13th April suspect disappeared from a boardinghouse in King Edward Street without paying for his accommodation.

Christchurch. —On the 22nd July last, the dwelling of MABEL HOWARD, 71 Pages Road, was broken into and the following stolen: A gold ring, set with a large oval amethyst which has small chip out of it; a gold bangle of triangular shape, fastener set with brilliants, safety-chain attached; a gold bangle, set with three sapphires and two diamonds; a gold slave bangle ; two gold old bangles with embossed designs; * and two gold-crowned teeth, &c.; total value, about £24 10s. Mostly identifiable.

Timaru. —Between the 28th and / 30th June last, the premises of CHARLES GEORGE MORGAN, 148 Stafford Street, were broken into and the following stolen": Gold, value £5 (recovered); sixteen gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold signet rings; six paua-shell and silver rings ; two 9 ct. gold rings set with opal; twenty-four ladies’ 9 ct. gold signet rings; two 18 ct. gold signet rings inlaid with white gold; four silver rings set with amethyst and three gold brooches inset with pearl; total value, £46 Bs. Identifiable. The gold was recovered on the Ist July last from a lavatory at the rear of complainant’s premises.

Dunedin.— the 21st and 24th ultimo, the dwelling of WILLIAM MATTINGLY, 256 King Edward Street, was broken into and the following stolen: A cheque-book on the Bank of New Zealand, South Dunedin Branch, containing blank forms, Nos. 855186 to 855192; a baby’s 9 ct. gold signet ring; four 3d. Social Security stamps; a twocell electric torch with “ U.S.A.” thereon; and 7s. 6d. in money ; total value, £1 4s. 6d. Portion identifiable.

Lawrence. — l3th ultimo, from the Beaumont Railwaystation, the property of CHARLES GEORGE MOUNTNEY, hotelkeeper, Rae’s Junction, eighteen bottles of Waitemata ale ; value, £1 Is. Not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), who was wearing an old grey or fawn sports coat, brown vest, and grey shirt (no hat.) He was seen leaving the Railway-station carrying something underneath his coat.
