Accused obtained a pair of mittens, value 9s. 6d., and £4 10s. cash from Triggs and Denton, merchants, by means of a valueless cheque for £5, No. 69078, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Nelson, by D. Murray, in favour of J. Evans. He committed another similar offence on Dulcie Jane Kristcnsen, by means of a valueless cheque for the same amount, No. 69079. Dunedin. —3rd July last, for forging a cheque for £l, No. 475, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, by Edmund Robert Grace for the Otago Patriotic and General Welfare Association in favour of N. O. Marshall or “ Order,” dated 3rd July, 1941, Man (name unknown), age about forty-five, height about 5 ft. 7 in., strong build ; wearing an overcoat and working clothes. The cheque was issued to Norman Officer Marshall, Moa Flat Downs Station, Ettrick, who either lost it or had it stolen from him, and on the above date accused forged the signature “ N. O. Marshall ” to it and uttered it to Roma Isobel Knight, clerk, Grand Hotel, from whom he received £1 cash. No warrant.
