Gladstone bag; a nickel-plated stethoscope ; a bundle of gauze dressings; a pair of nickel-plated surgical scissors, size 5 in.; a pair of nickel-plated dissecting forceps, size 5 in.; a pair of nickel-plated artery forceps, size 5 in., scissors handle type’ witfl ratchet catch ; a chromium-plated twocell torch; a black opthalmoscope, round white dial with numerals “ 0 ” to “ 9 ” in black on one side and reflection mirror on other side, plunger connection fitting into batteryholder the latter being made of black metal which holds two torch batteries (this instrument is contained in a case 6 in. by 4 in. by 2 in., covered with black fabric with black velvet covering inside); a 1 c.c. hypodermic syringe, Record brand, black numerals on glass, nickel-plated ends and plunger; a 2 c.c. hypodermic syringe similar to preceding one; and sphygmonanometer parts; total value, £ll. Newmarket. —4th January last, from a dressing-room at the Olympic' Swimming Pool, the property of MARGARET PAMELA MURRAY, 28 Awatea Road, Parnell, a ladies’ purse made of white beads, about 9 in. by 6 in., white metal zip-fastener ; a ladies’ rectangular. stainless steel open-face Swiss wristlet watch, repair No. 11144 on inside of case, yellowish unbreakable glass, stainless steel wrist-strap with flat links ; a powder-puff in sachet; a pair of dark sunglasses ; and 3d. in money ; total value, £7 2s. Portion identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Girl (name unknown), age about seventeen, height about 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes; wearing a mauve floral frock and carried a buff-coloured silk purse.

Dannevirke.— l6th ultimo, from a bedroom in the Ranfurly Boardinghouse, the property of HARRY MOULDEY and another, a brown fibrecane suit-case, 20 in. by 18 in.; a Gillette safety-razor ; a set of blue striped art silk pyjamas; two pairs of grey trousers, size 4; a grey coat shirt; a white shirt with blue stripes; two ties; and a shaving-brush, &c.; total value, £4 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Gordon Hobbs, referred to in Police Gazette, 1941, page 256, and Photographs, 1940, page 57. The suspect stayed at Ranfurly Boardinghouse and occupied the same room as the complainant, Mouldey. He disappeared suddenly on the evening of the 16th ultimo without paying for his board. „ J

Palmerston North. ultimo, from a hut on. a farm at Rangitikei Line, the property of COLIN ALEXANDER CAMERON, a gentlemen’s canvas waterproof overcoat of yellowish colour with brown velvet collar, “ Agnes Roulston ” may bo on it ; value, £2 ss. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Thomas George Ward, referred to in Police Gazette, 1941, page 256, and Photographs, 1940, page 14, who was employed by complainant for three weeks and occupied the hut from where, the coat was stolen. . doJy/W' W oodville.' — the night of 2nd-3rd instant, the office of the KAURI BREWERY CO. was broken into and the following stolen : An iron safe and twenty-four bottles of Kauri Ale (recovered) ; £3O Us. 4d. in cash ; a New Zealand

Government cheque for £lO Is. 3d. ; a cheque for £7 13s. 5d., No. B. 308111, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Pahiatua, by E. T. Horne in favour of “ cash ” or “ bearer ” ; a cheque for £5. No. 442094, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Woodville, by vV. H. Brotherstone; 10s. in Id. and 2d. stamps; a cheque- book on the Bank of New Zealand. Woodgilkv containing eighty unused forms, Nos. 454116 to 454200; a ledger ; registration-papers for a motor-truck ; and a benzine license ; total value, about £56. Identifiable except money ancPfctamps. The Brewery Co.’s motor-truck was also stolen, and it was later recovered near Levin with the safe and beer on it, but the safe had been forced open and the contents stolen. The top of a small round match-box was found in the company’s office, and inquiries revealed that at 11 p.m. on the 2nd instant the Man described below called at a Chinese shop in Woodville where he purchased a round Id. box of wax matches, and inquired where the brewery was situated : Age about forty, height about 5 ft. 7£ in., medium build, dark complexion, inclined to be wrinkled ; neatly dressed in a light-coloured pepper-and-salt sports coat and soft felt hat, and believed to be wearing a woollen jumper.

Wellington. — On the 7th February last, the flat of RUBY ALVINA LONG, 38b Cambridge Terrace, was broken into and the following stolen: About thirty Chinese, Japanese, and French coins ; a gold propelling pencil, may be Sheaffer brand ; a bronze Australian 1900 medal, Lord Hopeton’s head stamped thereon; a small red and white agate; a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting pocket watch, “ 8.L.” on outside case, “ Forever and a Day, 1923 ” on inside case ; an enveloped-shaped leather wallet with “ L.L.” worked on outside ; a gold-plated medal, scroll work around edges; and ss. in money; total value, £5 10s. 6d. Wellington.2nd ultimo, from the dwelling of EDITH AMY ROUT, 55 The Crescent, a composition round trinket box, cream coloured with small pink roses and blue forget-me-nots thereon ; a silver necklace about 36 in. long, comprised of small silver beads with small dumb-bell shaped joints between beads ; a metal and enamel brooch of blue cornflower and gold wheat, red poppy attached to pin ; an imitation diamond brooch, flower shape with leaf on each side ; a round gilt brooch with pearl in centre, larger than a half-crown ; a silver bracelet, about 1|- in. wide, two small turquoises set in it ; a small gold-coloured graduated necklace of small round metal beads ; a graduated necklace of brilliants, centre brilliant about size of a shilling; a black composition necklace of various shaped beads, small round beads between larger ones, in front is a large black piece of composition in form of a medallion which is studded with brilliants ; and a gold bar-shaped brooch, about 3 in. long and £ in. wide, ruby in centre, small leaf on each side of ruby with three seed pearls in each ; total value, £ll 19s. Identifiable.

Wellington.—Between the 13th and 15th ultimo, from a motor-car outside the Waterloo Hotel, the property of EILEEN BOURKE, a dark-blue suit-case 36 in. by 30 in. by 7 in.; a light-tan suit-case, 30 in. by 24 in. by 5 in.; a moss-green coat with mole-coloured fur collar, brown belt and brown bone buttons, lined with green crepe de Chine ; a pink frock with navy-blue and white-spotted belt, coloured artificial flowers on left shoulder, V-neck ; a pink silk frock with navy-blue stitching on collar and around sleeves and pockets, buttons down front; a brown silk frock with white check, V-neck; a navy-blue and white striped voile frock with diagonal stripes, white vest and V-neck; a sky-blue washing frock with square neck, mauve buttons ; a floral design frock of mauve, black, and other colours with belt of same material, V-neck ; a white silk nightdress with point lace yoke and lace on sleeves; a blue silk nightdress with V-neck, lace on neck and sleeves ; a pink silk nightdress with lace on neck and sleeves; a white fine lawn nightdress with lace top; a dress length of brown light woollen material; a dress length of pale-pink crepe de Chine ; a pale-green repp costume with short coat, centre pleat in skirt, breast pocket, no belt ; a fawn costume of basket weave wool, three-quarter length coat ; a maize-coloured jumper suit costume of light wool material with tuck bodice and black buttons; a cherry-red fine Scotch wool cardigan with bone buttons ; a cherry -red woollen jumper with square neck and long cuffs, elastic in elbows ; a blue striped silk blouse; a pair of dyed-green satin evening shoes, size 4; a pair of white kid shoes, size 4, sandal type with medium heel; a pair of fawn satin court shoes, size 4 ; six books, two of which are written by Maxwell, Tauranga ; four large photos in frames; several small photos, one of an elderly lady ; and a round chromium mantel clock on chromium stand, with pale-green dial and silver-coloured hands and numerals ; total value, £6O. Wellington. —On the 23rd February last, a flat at 3 Maurice Terrace was broken into and the following the property of FREDERICK SIPOS, stolon: A ladies’ round silver Swiss Lanco wristlet watch with gold- coloured dial and hands and gold-coloured Arabic numerals, small leaf chasing around edge; a gentlemen’s 18 ct. gold wedding ring; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold ring, set with a dark-red garnet in claw setting of oval shape ; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold ring, set with a dark-blue turquoise of oval shape surrounded by small pearls in filigree setting, ring has been broken and soldered ; a ladies’ gold band ring, set with a diamond in claw setting, Czechoslovakian gold stamp inside ; a ladies’ red leather purse lined with grey snake-skin, 3 in. by 2 in., small ring in one corner; and £l7 6s. in money ; total value, £34. Identifiable except money.

Wellington. —Between the 21st and 23rd January last, the warehouse of SHARLAND AND CO., Dixon Street, was broken into and the following stolen: A gentlemen’s rolledgold Elgin hunting pocket watch, Roman numerals, secondhand missing; a gentlemen’s rolled-gold double watchchain of small links with greenstone mere pendant, 9 ct. gold medal in shape of penny with “E. G. Peck, M.1.Y.8. on it; and a small 9 ct. gold medal with “W. J. Peck ”on it attached to chain; a Hanson weighingmachine of flat oblong shape, about 12 in. by 8 in., and weighs up to 17 st., enamelled cream ; and a perfume spray of smoked glass in diamond shape and rubber bulb ; total value, £lO ss. 6d.
