INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.

Sydney (Australia).Warrants have been issued for the arresstKof (1) Robert Sidney Jones and (2) William Burney/photographs above) charging them that at East Maitland on the 7th November, 1940, they escaped from H M. .Prison at East Maitland. Description(l) Age thirty-five, height oft. 11 in., medium build, dark complexion, wavy brown hair, cast in left eye, tip of left forefinger missing. (2) Age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 10J in., thin build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, blue-grey eyes, small brown mole on left side of chin. The former was serving a sentence of penal servitude for life (commuted from sentence of death) imposed on 7th June, 1939, for wounding with intent to murder. He is regarded as a desperate criminal. He may have received an injury to his left leg when dropping from the prison wall. The latter was serving a sentence of two year’s imposed on him on Ist June, 1938, for housebreaking, and he was then declared to be an habitual criminal. He is also regarded as a dangerous man. They are both now said to be in possession of firearms. Their arrest and extradition are desired. (P. 40/1450.)
