Newton. 2nd September last, from the shop door of GEORGE CRESS WELL CONNELL, tailor, 519 Karangahape Road, a gentlemen’s black camel-hair double-breasted overcoat, size 4, four buttons on front, loose belt with buckle which is covered with black leather ; value, £7 7s. Identifiable.
Auckland. —19th September last, from Quay Street, the property of SYDNEY ARTHUR REUBEN HASLIP, 59 Cook Street, a 1938 model 2h.p. Coventry Eagle motor-cycle with twin exhausts, red tank with black top, Dunlop tires, engine No. 9524, chassis No. 90574, registration No. 14,947 ; value, £33. Identifiable.
Auckland. 2lst September last, from a lounge-room in Glecson’s Hotel, the property of JACK LINDSAY GRIFFITHS, 14 Wilton Street, Grey Lynn, a leather suitcase about 36 in. by 18 in. by 9 in., with “ Victoria,” “ Vancouver,” and “ Suva ” labels on it; a medium grey tweed suit, made by R. Jaffe, Auckland, fit man about 5 ft. 9 in. ; a navy-blue serge suit, made by Hugh Wright, Auckland ; a royal-blue flannel Auckland Aero Club blazer, wings embroidered on left breast pocket ;• a brown leather wallet with zip-fastener, containing papers in the name Griffiths ; a grey check raincoat; a pair of brown leather shoes, size 8; six shirts; a silver cigarette-case, Fijian coat-of-arms in enamel on front; two pullovers; two sets of blue silk pyjamas ; three singlets; two pairs of short white art silk underpants; and a passport, No. 4568, issued by the New Zealand Government, in name “ Jack Lindsay Griffiths ” ; total value, £23. Mostly identifiable.
Manurewa. 2nd or 3rd August last, from the roadside at Alfriston, the property of CECIL RIPPON WEBSTER, a set of eight-blade Evona Giant discs, painted red and black, adjustable handle bent and spring is missing, greasecups missing, weight about 13 cwt., “ Made by Evans ” on plate on draw-bar ; value, £3O. Identifiable.
Gisborne. —lsth September last, from a compound on Darton Field Aerodrome, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Meteorological Department), a meteorological thermometer for measuring degrees of frost on grass, round in shape, and about 12 in. long; value, £2. Identifiable.
Wanganui. On the 11th ultimo, the dwelling of GEORGE MURCH, 36 Campbell Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A gentlemen’s rolled-gold Omega wristlet watch, No. 9536744, “D. 269 ” and “ 18/12/39 ” faintly scratched on inside case, “ G. Murch, 19/12/39 ” inscribed on back case; a ladies’ gold ring, claw set with three sapphires in cross setting ; a ladies’ gold ring, set with three small diamonds in claw setting; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold ring, set with an opal in centre surrounded by twenty-two diamonds in marquise setting, larger diamond at each end of opal, one diamond slightly darker than the others; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold solitaire diamond ring, fine platinum setting ; a gold brooch set with pearls and pink and green stones; a pink crystal necklet; an ear-ring with amber drop; and an earring with white pearl drop ; total value, £72 15s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), who was wearing a light-grey tweed suit and dark-grey felt hat. He was seen on the veranda of complainant’s house.
Wanganui. —Between the Bth February last and 7th ultimo, from a dwelling at 86 Niblet Street, the property of HENRY NEAS, 8 Koromiko Road, a -32 calibre Colt revolver, No. 50179 ; value, £l. Identifiable.
Wellington.— the 6th September last, the warehouse of the EXCELSIOR SUPPLY CO., LTD., was broken into, the safe opened by means of explosives, and £29 12s. Id. stolen. A claw hammer with “ E.” and “ R.W.” on it was found near the safe which had apparently been left by the offender.
Wellington. sth ultimo, from a motor-car at the Wellington Club, the property of Captain EDWIN GRAVE MORRIS, Hinemoa Street, a gentlemen’s single-breasted light-grey tweed Raglan overcoat with light-grey lining, “ Henry Milbourne and Son, 38 Sackville Street, London ” on inside, “ E. G. Morris ” probably in one pocket or inside one sleeve; a tournament model Banshee tennis-racquet, “ Bow ” brand, made in England by F. P. Baker and Co., Goldon Square, London W. 1,12 J oz. weight; a Hercules tennis-racquet with handle of variegated colours; and a Wimbledon racquet - press marked “F. H. Ayers, Ltd., London ” ; total value, £lB. Identifiable.
Wellington.— 2nd September last, from a house in the course of construction in Blakey Avenue, Karori, the property of JOHN SCOTT BLAIR, a 7 in. portable electric handsaw (known as a “ skilsaw ”), No. 148814, model 77, plate on top of handle has been repaired ; and 100 ft. of | in. black insulated flexible cord ; total value, £35. Identifiable.
