Kingsland.Between the 11th and 18th ultimo, from a shed at the residence of FRANK CROMPTON BIRD, 2 Exeter Road, Mount Albert, a -22 calibre single-shot Winchester rifle, model 1904 ; value, 10s. Identification doubtful.

Auckland. Between January, 1939, and April last, from the storeroom of the Rudge Electrical Co., 47 St. Paul Street, the property of EDWYN ROSS RUDGE, 15 Waiatarua Road, Remuera, a spring-back loose-leaf stamp album, “ Favourite ” on binder, 10£ in. by 12£ in., containing between three thousand and four thousand stamps which are from every country in the world and arranged in alphabetical order, several pages are of English brown penny stamps ; value, £SO. Identifiable.

Auckland.22nd July last, from the hall in a dwelling at 48 Grafton Road, the property of ALICE MABEL LAMB, 6 Marlborough Street, Mount Albert, a vandyked Peschaniki fur coat, 42 in. long, full rolled collar, close-fitting sleeves slightly enlarged above cuff, two large brown bone buttons, fur slightly rubbed on inside of each forearm, lined with brown and gold brocaded silk with two ribbon ties of same material ; value, £25. Identifiable.

Auckland. 23rd July last, from the - person of FREDERICK ROBERT SMITH, 49 Cook Street, a rolledgold chain which has been through a fire and gold burned off; a shield-shaped silver medal with heart-shaped gold centre, “ Presented to T. Corkery from Mrs. Brown ” on back ; a bronze medallion, about size of a sixpence, King’s head on one side, Lord’s Prayer on other side; a rolled-gold rheumatic ring; a brass bottle-shaped penknife, blade one end, tin-opener other end; and a white metal sovereigncase ; total value, £3 Bs. Identifiable except ring. Complainant, who was under the influence of liquor, was drinking in the bar of the Prince of Wales Hotel, when the property described was stolen. Raymond James Woodward, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 488, and Photographs, 1927, page 4, and Albert Joseph Hill, referred to in Police Gazette, 1920, page 573, and Photographs, page 50, were standing near complainant about the time the offence was committed, and they have been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. — l6th April last, the property of R. K. GEDDES, a set of bagpipes, made by J. and R. Glen, Edinburgh, pipe-chanter made by McDougal, Aberfeldy, practice-chanter made by R. G. Lawrie, Glasgow, green bag-cover with green drone-cords, contained in stained • Baltic-pine case about 2 ft. long with the name “ Geddes ” written on it in several places; value, £ls. Identifiable. The case containing the pipes was lost between Papakura Military Camp and Wellington.

Auckland. Between the Ist and 3rd July last, the dwelling of MICHAEL GERRARD, 365 Sandringham Road, Mount Albert, was broken into and the following stolen: A dark two-piece herringbone suit, size 4, art silk lining, “ Tassie ” on coat-tag; a henna-coloured sports- coat of heavy material, “ Tassie ”on tag; a pair of light-fawn gaberdine trousers, size 4, fob pocket; and a half-sovereign; total value, £l2 10s. Identifiable, except money.

Auckland. —During the night of 20th July last, the office of the Ellerslie Railway Station, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Railways Department), was broken into and the following stolen : Two small cash-bag keys, brass tag attached to each, one had “ No. 80 ” on it and the other “ 360 ” or “ 365 ” ; three door-keys ; a Social Security coupon-book in name “ Francis Peech,” issued at Kamo; a small brown leather wallet, containing a coalmining engineer’s ticket in name “ Clement Peech ” ; a gentlemen’s grey felt hat, grease spot about size of a shilling on crown in front; three tablecloths —-two with white linen centres and trees and a house worked in each comer, and the other white linen with pansies worked all over it; a Social Security coupon-book in name “ John Cross,” issued at Napier; and about nine Gibson’s heavy guitar strings ; total value, £3 15s. 6d. Identifiable except guitar strings. The station was damaged to the extent of about £1 12s. 6d., and suit-cases and trunks to about the same amount.

Mount Eden.— lsth June last, the property of DORA EVELYN HERK, 36 Bright Street, an 18 ct. gold ring, set with five diamonds in straight setting ; value, £2O. Identifiable. Complainant lost the ring.

Hamilton. — lst ultimo, from a vestibule in the Commercial Hotel, the property of HELMORE HENRY BROWN, 36 White’s Line West, Lower Hutt, a light-brown leather suit-case, 36 in. by 18 in. by 20 in., containing a navy-blue suit with pin stripes, extra pair of trousers, gold P. and T. Association badge in lapel; six coloured shirts with collars to match, size 3 ; four pairs of socks; two sets of pyjamas with green stripes ; a pair of underpants ; a woollen singlet; a German blade razor; a set of hair-brushes ; a clothes-brush with white bristles; and a brown home-spun woollen dressing-gown ; total value, £26. Identifiable.

New Plymouth. — l2th July last, from the dwelling of CHARLES HENRY CLINTON SMITH, farmer, Albert Road, about 15s. in money; a pair of canvas leggings; a pair of boots; a boot-cleaning outfit; a pearl-handled pocket-knife ; a shaving-brush and a razor; total value, £2. Portion identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Patrick William Mollis Comber, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 418, and Photographs, page 46. He frequents hotels and billiard-rooms ; insolent manner. Suspect was employed by complainant, but during the latter’s absence he disappeared, and it was then discovered that the property described had been stolen, JZj/m/l/Q Napier.— 29th ultimo, from the shop of WIRELESS SERVICE CO., Emerson Street, a dark-khaki Univex movie camera, serial No. 116388, ■ metal construction, about 6 in. by 3 in., uses 8 mm. film ; value, £7 19s. During the night of 22nd July last, the Ohakune Junction Post-office, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department) was broken into, an attempt made to open the office safe by means of explosives, and the following stolen: A £1 note, two 10s. notes, and two pairs of scissors. A number of letters were opened and the money referred to extracted from two of them.

Upper Hutt. —Between the Ist May last and Ist ultimo, from a hut near Main Road, Trentham, the property of GEORGE HENRY JACKSON, 1 Merton Street, Trentham, a -22 calibre single-shot rifle, No. 7477, made by Nationale De Arms Co., Belgium • value about £2. Identifiable. Petone.— On the 22nd or 23rd July last, from a hut at McEwen Park, the property of THOMAS GEORGE FULLER, 22 North Street, a clock (recovered); a portable five-valve Ultimate battery wireless-set, 16 in. by Sin. by 11 in., red fabric case with leather handle, broadcast model, reading from 500 to 1,800 kilocycles; value, £lB 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Martin Grey (name probably fictitious), age about nineteen, height 5 ft. 9 in., motor-driver, slight build, fair complexion. The clock was recovered in a secondhand shop in Petone where it was sold by the youth described above.

Wellington.— Between the 10th January and 11th May last, from the storeroom of the SINGER SEWING MACHINE CO., Victoria Stieet, a black electric motor for Singer Sewing machine, 6 in. by 4 in. by 2 in., No. 5574976 stamped on it; and an electric light to fit above motor; total value, £7 4s. Motor identifiable.

Wellington. 26th July last, from a dwelling at 9 Lipman Street, the property of JOHN WILLIAM DALE : A very dark-blue herringbone serge suit, made by McDonald and Thomas, tailors, Invercargill, about size 4; a medium grey serge suit with light stripes, about size 4; a brown Roslyn sports coat, large check pattern with thin red lines; two pairs of Roslyn sports trousers, size 3 ; a brown leather pocket-wallet, containing £5 10s. in money; a nickel-plated Civitis 'wristlet watch with black leather wrist band and luminous dial; an Agfa folding camera, No. H. 820, 3£ in. by 2} in., high speed Compur shutter, takes 120 films, lens No. 450386, brown fibre case; a clothes-brush; a grey Stetson hat noth navy band, branded “ Double Bee, Brass' Bros., Outfitters, Invercargill ; a barley-sugar tin and a Horlock’s malted-milk tin, containing about £7 17s. 6d. in 6d. and 3d. pieces ; and a brown fibre suit-case ; total value, £35 14s. Identifiable except money.

Nelson. —Bth July last, from clothing in a shed, the property of LUIGI D’AMBROS, gardener, 147 Bridge Street, an old black leather wallet, containing four £5 notes, Nos. 3K786640, 3K908868, 4K127371, and 4K349867 respectively ; two £1 notes ; a 10s. note; and an Alien Registration Certificate, No. 13104, in complainant’s name.

Greymouth.— l3th ultimo, from a motor-car in Tainui Street, the property of JAMES WILLIAM ANDERSON, 152 Hereford Street, Christchurch, a fibre suit-case, containing a manila folder with about twenty samples of paper; a manila folder containing samples of carbon paper ; a manila folder containing letter from J. and W. Faulkner, Ltd., Dunedin, with list of mines in Grey District; Customs forms in name Griffin and Smith, Ltd. ; sundry letters; Crusader carbon paper; a specimen folder of books; a pricebook ; an index-book with stationery costs; a cardboard box containing five Everhandy rotary pencil-sharpeners; and a Crown C. brand paper-stapling machine; total value, £lO. Mostly identifiable.

Christchurch. —6th ultimo, from a work-bench in Urlwin’s Speedee Factory, the property of CONSTANCE HILL, 432 Gloucester Street, a ladies’ gold octagonal Baume wristlet watch, Roman numerals, numeral “ 12 ”, is red, black tape wrist band with gold dome fastener ; value, £5. Identifiable.
