PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. — 26th or 27th June last, from a shed on Princes Wharf, the property of the SHAW, SAVILL SHIPPING CO., a wooden ease, 35 in. by 24 in. by 21 in., “ 8.H.” in a diamond and “ No. 21, Auckland, Karamea ” on it, containing twenty thousand one hundred and sixty cigars, made up of brown cardboard cartons, each containing packets with “ Lounge Small Cigars, Every Puff a Pleasure” and an illustration of a man sitting in armchair in front of palm on them. This make of cigar is very rare in New Zealand; total value, £146 19s. Case only identifiable.

Auckland. the 22nd and 28th July last, from the bedroom of AGNES CLARK PRESTON, 150 Garnet Road, Westmere, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold solitaire diamond ring with platinum shoulders, platinum claw setting, value £3O, identifiable; and a ladies’ 9 ct. gold Swiss wristlet watch with gold-coloured dial, “N. Russell engraved on back case, “ 8832 ” scratched near rim on back, octagon-shaped dial with round glass, Roman numerals, gold flexible bracelet about J in. wide with 9 ct. gold pullover clasp, value £5. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to David Ravel), age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 10 in., liftman, native of Australia, thin build, sallow complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, round shoulders. He was boarding in complainant’s dwelling, and had an opportunity to commit the offence. He left for Australia on the 27th July last.

Auckland. —29th July last, the property of EDITH JOHNSTON, 98 Victoria Road, Devonport, a handbag (recovered) a ladies’ gold (probably 14 ct.) Elgin wristlet watch, about size of a florin, front and sides engraved, black Arabic numerals, slightly stained light-coloured dial, black ribbon band with gold fastener; and a Waterman fountainpen, black vulcanite case, gold nib, nickel pocket clip; total value, £l3. Watch only identifiable. Complainant left the handbag in Woolworths, Queen Street, and when it was recovered later the same day in Smith and Caughey’s shop, the watch and pen had been stolen from it.

Auckland. Between the Bth and 11th July last, from the shop of CECIL JOHN YOUNG, 223 Broadway, Newmarket, two gentlemen’s nickel-plated round Rotary wristlet watches, luminous dials, Arabic numerals, leather wriststraps ; and twelve pawa-shell rings with silver bands, three heart shape; total value, £8 16s. Not identifiable.

Auckland. Between the 20th and 24th July last, from a room in an apartment house at 59 Cook Street, the property of MARIE BOYNTON, a ladies’ gold wristlet watch about the size of a shilling, gold-coloured numerals and hands, round back and hexagonal front (no band); value, £3 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —30th June last, from a hall in a dwelling at 94 Federal Street, the propeity of STANLEY TOMICH, Bonnie Glen Boardinghouse, Te Aroha, a brown cowhide leather suit-case, 33 in. by 18 in. by 9 in., two leather straps, five nickel buttons on bottom, containing a large blue worsted suit with pin stripes; a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting Waltham pocket watch, Roman numerals, “ S.T.” scratched on inside back case; a single fetter and three or four ovals gold watch-chain, similar to illustration No. 10 in Police Gazette, 1911, page 1 ; a white silk shirt, 154 in. collar; a set of gentlemen’s blue and white striped silk pyjamas, O.S. size ; a pair of large green socks; a blue and white spotted scarf; a pair of gentlemen’s tan streamline shoes, size 9; two Gotta razors in cases, complainant’s name written on inside of cases ; a large blade razor in case with complainant’s name on inside ; a bluish razor strop ; a post-office savingsbank book, Tc Aroha, showing a credit of £260 in complainant’s name; and some shaving gear; total value, £3l 6s. 6d. Identifiable.

Pukekohe. —13th May last, the property of FREDERICK O’HARA, Manakau Road, Masonic jewels including a chaplain’s silver insignia representing a twelve-pointed star with triangle and open book, inscribed “ Franklin Lodge, No. 58 ” ; and _a/‘“r>ast-master’s gold jewel) attached to a ribbon from

which suspends an inverted square, inscribed on back, “ Presented to Wor. Bro. O’Hara, 1935, Franklin,” “ No. 58 ” on ribbon ; total value, £9. Identifiable. ’t&c&v' 'd/ • Rotorua. Between the 6th and 27th June last, from a motor-car, the property of DUNCAN WILLIAM STEELE, a pair of Karl Zeiss binoculars with black leather covering, the figures indicating the size are worn and shows only “ 8 ” small splinter out of one eye-glass ; value, £ls. Identifiable.

Rotorua. —About the Ist ultimo, from a hut at Okere Falls, the property of MAJOR H. S. WRIGHT, Havelock North, a pair of field-glasses, British make, about 5 in. by 4 in., marked “ 11. S. W. King’s Own ” ; value, £4. Identifiable.

Paekakariki. —Between the 20th May and 22nd June last, a cottage at Raumati South, the property of JACK FORSYTH BRISTED, 23 Everton Terrace, Wellington, was broken into and the following stolen: A pair of binoculars with “J. 8.” on them, value £2O ; an Agfa camera; and two saucepans. Two drums of petrol, value £27 10s., were also stolen from among lupins nearby; total value, £53. Identification doubtful.

Wellington. —Between the Ist and 7th ultimo, the dwelling of MYLES FORTUNATUS WRIGHT, 30 Rimu Road, Kelburn, was broken into and the following stolen: A "old ring, platinum set with two large diamonds in centre and three smaller ones on each side, value £ls 155.; a tin containing £1 in pennies; a rug, brown and fawn on one side, brown on other side; a dark-green rug with red markings'; and a cream-coloured double blanket; total value, £23 ids. Identifiable except money and blanket.

Wellington. 27th July last, from the shop of the Photo Supply Co., Grey Street, the property of WALTER FEAR, 18 Raine Street, Karori, a 35 mm. folding-type Agfa Karat miniature camera, 5 in. by 3J in. by H in., F. 3-5 lens, black metal with silver sides, silver finishings, eye-level view-finder, No. either 3736 or 4791; value, £l2 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), age about sixty-five, height 5 ft. 11 in., stout build, florid complexion, heavy eyebrows, one thumbnail was of peculiar shape; wearing light raincoat and fawn hat; blustering voice. He called at the shop and asked to be shown a camera which was in the window. While the attendant was fulfilling this request the suspect put the camera described above in his pocket.

Wellington. l3th July last, from a motor-car in Bunny Street, the property of EILEEN FROST, Exchange Hotel, Nelson: A brown fibre suit-case about 30 in. by 18 in. by 9 in., containing a ladies’ frock of blue silk material with white stripes, pullover type with high neck; a ladies’ frock of plain blue silk; a ladies’ black Kasha flannel frock with two white and gold zip-fasteners across breast; a ladies’ set of pink woollen underwear ; a set of ladies’ white woollen underwear; a ladies’ oval mirror with handle, gold bevelled type; two dozen ladies’ and gentlemen’s handkerchiefs ;. a pair of ladies’ brown silk stockings ; a Big Ben alarm-clock, chromium plated; a pair of ladies’ navy-blue slacks; a ladies’ black woollen cardigan, buttoned; a ladies’ honey and brown coloured woollen cardigan; a brown Harris tweed skirt; three wooden coat-hangers ; a ladies’ umbrella, black with amber-coloured top; a set of white enema-tube fittings; a Greymouth Post-office Savings-bank pass-book in name of Margaret McDonald Jones; a small brown fibre attache-case, containing a set of ladies’ Winceyette striped pyjamas; a pair of blue woollen bedsocks ; a pair of ladies white woollen bedsocks; and a pair of ladies black leather house-slippers, size 4^; total value, £26 9s. sd. Mostly identifiable.

Wellington.— 2Bth June last, from a room at the rear of the Orient Private Hotel, Oriental Parade, the property of EVELYN MATILDA WARD, waitress, a ladies’ gold Swiss wristlet watch, No. 52693, oblong shape with curved corners, Arabic numerals, small dents in .back of -.wMch ; and £l6 os. 2d. in money ; total value, £ftwvaucli^

identifiable. Suspicion is attached to TWO Men (names unknown)—(l) Age about twenty-three, height about 6 ft., medium build, fair complexion, fair hair; dressed in a dark suit (no hat). (2) Age about twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in a dark suit (no hat.)

Christchurch.— Between the 18th June and 3rd July last, from a show-case in the shop of the NEW ZEALAND FARMERS’ CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION, Cashel Street, a golden-brown-coloured mink marmot fur coat of swagger style, dark stripes, 44 in. or 45 in. in length, would fit tall woman of full figure, lined with brown art silk, Peter Pan stylo of collar ; value, £25. Identifiable.

Dunedin. —2nd ultimo, from a dressing-room in Metliven’s foundry, the property of ALEXANDER JOSEPH TAYLOR, 100 Queen Street, a gentlemen’s chromium-plated oblong open-face wristlet watch, A. G. Taylor, April, 1939 ”on back, Arabic numerals, expanding chromium-plated metal wristlet; value, £5. Identifiable.

Dunedin. —Between the 30th May and 24th June last, from the dwelling of DOROTHY MAY FULTON, 8 Claremont Street, Roslyn, an 18 ct. gold bar brooch with greenstone; an 18 ct. gold bar brooch with representation of flying bird in seed pearls ; an 18 ct. gold pin brooch with spray of seed pearls; an old gold oval filigree locket with fine gold chain; an 18 ct. gold cable bracelet, gold padlock and gold souvenir spoon attached; and an 18 ct. gold cable bracelet, child’s size total value, £5. Identifiable. John Alexander William Forrester, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 219, and Photographs, 1937, page 2, who was suspected, has been interviewed regarding this offence, but no evidence resulted.

Dunedin. —Between the Ist and 15th ultimo, a £SO note, the property of GRACE WILSON, Te Rahiri Boardinghouse, Stuart Street, was paid out by her in mistake for a 10s. note. The number of the note is T. 022199. Any information concerning it is to be communicated to the Superintendent of Police, Dunedin.

Dunedin. Between the 21st and 28th June last, from Taieri Aeradio Station, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department), a square milliameter, black bakelite case, 11 in. deep, 3| in. in diameter, flush mounting type, scale 0-50, “ D. C. Milliameter ” and “P. & T.” marked on case ; value, £2 10s. Identifiable,

Dunedin. —24th July last, from a room in the Te Rahiri Private Hotel, the property of STANLEY WARD GEDDES, Outram, a gentlemen’s gold hunting pocket watch, No. 429585, “ The Form ” and “ Swiss Made ” on dial, Roman numerals, shield engraved on back case; value, £B. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Leonard Robert Moulin, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 974, and Photographs, 1937, page 49.
