THE ARMS EMERGENCY REGULATIONS 1940.

GALWAY, Governor-General ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government House at Wellington, this 2nd day of July, 1940. Present: His Excellency the Governor-General in Council. Pursuant to the Emergency Regulations Act, 1939, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby make the following regulations.

REGULATIONS. y 1. These regulations may be cited as the Arms Emergency Regulations 1940. 2. In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires,— “ Alien ” has the same meaning as in the Alien Control Emergency Regulations 1939 : “ The Arms Act ” means the Arms Act, 1920, and its amendments: Expressions defined in the Arms Act have the meanings so defined. 3. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the Arms Act or in any regulations or notice thereunder, section 7 of the Arms Act shall apply with respect to — (а) The possession by an alien of any shot-gun or ammunition of a kind referred to in subsection (3) of the said section 7, or in section 8 of the Arms Amendment Act, 1921-22 : (b) The possession by any person other than a licensed dealer of any explosives of a kind referred to in the said subsection (3) of section 7 of the Arms Act.

4. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in subsection (8) of section 9 of the Arms Act, that section shall apply with respect to the possession by an alien of any shot-gun of a kind referred to in the said subsection (8). C. A. JEFFERY, Clerk of the Executive Council.

Auckland. the 9th ultimo, the dead body of a man (name unknown) was found washed up on Shelly Beach. Description: Age about fifty-live, height about 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, hair curly at sides and back, bald in front, blue-grey eyes, small moustache, two broken front teeth, emu and two roosters tattooed on right forearm, fish-hook, fly, spider, frog, bird, and other indistinct tattoo-marks on left forearm; dressed in a blue-striped shirt and collar, black tie, black trousers, brown sports coat, black overcoat, brown woollen socks, and black boots, size 9, pockets contained a pair of gold-rimmed spectacles, a pair of silver-rimmed spectacles, and a spectacle-case marked “ Melbourne.” Articles of clothing had “ Melbourne ” and “ Geelong ” on them. Any information that may assist to establish his identity is to be forwarded to the Superintendent of Police, Auckland. Photographs of deceased appear above. C.R. 40/12/75.
