Auckland. —Bth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to the Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £154 2s. Bd. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Henry Arthur Esdale, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. B.£ in., labourer, native of New Zealand, dark complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, long nose, scar on right middle finger and left forefinger. Auckland. 2nd ultimo, on warrant for being a child not under proper control, Arthur Vincent Browne, age fourteen years and a half (looks much older), height about 5 ft. 10 in., farm labourer, native of Australia, strong build, fresh complexion, black hair, natural teeth; dressed in a light-grey suit with action back (no hat); well spoken. He was employed at the Cargen Hotel as a kitchen-hand where he committed theft of an attache-case and contents. He subsequently admitted the offence, but has since disappeared. 'Qeuvudhd- H/q/ub Auckland. 9th ultimo, on warrant to apprehend for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Thomas Edward Donaldson, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, scar on right cheek and below left eye. Arrears to 2nd February last, £2O. (See Police Gazette, 1930, page 496.) Auckland. Bth ultimo, on warrant for that being a prohibited immigrant he unlawfully landed in New Zealand, J. P. Higgs, age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., ship’s baker, native of South Africa, good build, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair, brown eyes; dressed in grey sports trousers and green sports coat. New Plymouth.— Between the 27th February and Bth March last, for theft 'of If yd. of brown striped material (recovered), the property of Edward George Pearce, tailor, Currie Street, Lionel Walter Doreen, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 16, and Photographs, page 16. Doreen was found unlawfully in a room in the Jubilee Private Hotel, and the stolen material was found in the next room. He is suspected of having stolen this material from a piece which contained 3} yd. When located he is to be interviewed. He travels around the country-and secures lodgings on tickets which he obtains from secretaries of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. No warrant. Wanganui. —lsth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wanganui. Prison for five days in default of paying £3 fine and costs for being found on licensed premises during prohibited hours, Eric John Robertson Ludlow, age about fortyseven, height 5 ft., ex-jockey, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, natural teeth ; neatly dressed; fond of drink. ■fwd ZZ/jT/i+o. Upper Hutt. —6th February last, that a summons may be served on him for driving a motor-car at excessive speed on the main highway in Upper Hutt, Don Dovarro, alias Douglas Campbell, referred to in Police Gazette,' 1936, page 563. He was in Trentham Military Camp, but he has been discharged. He is a salesman, dancing instructor, and piano- tuner, and he is known to most piano-dealers. d&TTAtscjy 2jlo J to/ifp Wellington. —9th March last, on warrant for deserting from the ship “ Fordsdale,” E. Grout, deck-boy. Wellington.— Bth instant, for a breach of her probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), Nancy Rita King, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 108, and Photographs, 1938, page 35. She has failed to report to a Probation Officer, and has also failed to make restitution, and her arrest is desired. The original charge reads, “On the 2nd February, 1938, at Wellington, with intent to defraud, did obtain a cheque for £ls from John William Foster by falsely representing that she required the sum of £ls to attend her mother’s funeral at Invercargill.” #

Invercargill. l3th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, George Williamson. Accused obtained £lO in money, and clothing, value £6, from Roy Golden Smith, draper, Tuatapere, by means of a valueless cheque for £l6, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Gore. He may be wearing lightgreen trousers and double-breasted London tan sports coat. The photograph of James Hastings Hampstead, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 883, and Photographs, 1940, page 3, has been identified as that of accused, and also as that of a man who stayed at the Railway Hotel at the beginning of last month. The cheque-form is from the cheque-book of George Wryatt, who also stayed at the same hotel at the same time. , awtf&Z&cf/' S'/b/y-'D .
