Boulton (name probably fictitious), age about thirtyeight, height 6 ft. traveller, strong build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes; dressed in a navy-blue suit, light-coloured mackintosh, grey hat, and brown shoes. Accused obtained £1 2s. in money from Basil Sutton Darnell, licensee, Lake Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for £5 10s., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Rotorua, No. A. 972562, dated 30th November, 1939, which he tendered in payment for a week’s board. Letters found in an old bag at the hotel indicate that accused’s correct name may be K. R. Thomson. On the Ist instant Jacobes Johannes Swanepoel, a guest at the same hotel, gave Boulton a cheque for £lO to have cashed at the Bank of New South Wales, Rotorua, and bring back the change, and, to facilitate the cashing of the cheque, complainant also gave him a letter-of-credit on the Bank of New South Wales, King and George Street Branch, Sydney, Australia,- showing a balance of £4O.
