PROPERTY STOLEN.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). — Between the 10th and 16th ultimo, from Shed 24, Princes Wharf, the property of the SHAW, SAVILL, AND ALBION CO., LTD., a wooden case, 40 in. by 23 in. by 18 in., containing thirty thousand gold-tipped State Express 999 cigarettes in boxes of twenty? five, case is marked in black stencil “ WD HO ” over “ A 496 ” in a diamond over “ W LTD No. 9844,” and in black and blue crayon “ MIOB ” over “1 ” and “ EXAM ” ; total value, £lOl 12s. 6d. Not identifiable.

Auckland.— 4th October last, from a motor-car in Mount Eden Road, the property of STANLEY VICTOR HEADLAND, 36 Ferry hill Road, Epsom, a folding type Kodak camera, model No. 116, Bauch and Lomb lens, autographic back, black Morocco leather covering, a piece of which is missing in front and has been replaced by a piece that does not match ; value, £6. Identifiable.

Auckland. — 27th September last, from a suit-case in the Victoria Hotel, the property of KEBLE REGINALD BOWDEN, H.M.S. “ Wakakura,” a navy-blue suit, size 5, made by Crawshaw, tailor, Auckland; a gentlemen’s grey double-breasted herringbone pattern overcoat, six brown buttons on front; / and a pair of grey worsted Panama trousers, two side, two hip, and two fob pockets; total value, £l3 ss. A brown jacket with “ Gotham W. Kitasion, New York ” on label on it was left in the suit-case from which the clothing was stolen, and is apparently the property of the offender. A two-pound cannon shell, the property of William Stanley Thew, licensee, was also stolen from the hotel office at the same time.

Auckland. -10th September last, from the dwelling of MICHAEL MARINOVICH, 16 Upper Queen Street, £3O in money; a cheque for £57 2s. 3d., No. L.E. 48186, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Shortland Street, Auckland, in favour of Pearl Fisheries, signed “ Marion A. Devcich,” endorsed on back “ Pearl Fisheries, P.P. M. Marinovich,” dated Bth September, 1939, and marked “ Not Negotiable ” ; a cheque for £7 35., A. 419216, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Symonds Street, in favour of Pearl Fisheries, signed “ S. Dean ” and “ V. Dean,” endorsed on back Pearl Fisheries, P.P. M. Marinovich,” dated 7th September, 1939, and marked “ Not Negotiable ” ; a black note-book, containing a record of complainant’s bank account at the Bank of New South Wales, Karangahape Road, Auckland; and pay-in bank slip for £94 ss. 3d. on the same bank; ail was contained in a white cloth Bank of New South Wales cash-bag; total value, £94 9s. 9d. Portion identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Louise Maclntyre, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 7 in., domestic and cleaner, native of South Africa, good build, dark swarthy complexion, black hair and eyes, broad nose, good natural teeth; well spoken; appears to have dark blood. She was in complainant’s house on the afternoon of the offence, and had an opportunity to commit it.

Auckland. — the 21st and 23rd September last, from the dwelling of THOMAS WILLIAM FULLERTON, 11 Elizabeth Street, Ponsonby, a ladies’ gold Rolex wristletwatch, gold coloured numerals and black hands, black leather strap attached; a ladies’ gold wristlet-watch, round with octagon-shaped bezel which is dented, black Roman numerals, two links at back with small lock clasp ; total value, £l4 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —22nd September last, from a room at 145 Hobson Street, the property of ROBERT RAEBURN MILLER, salesman, a gentlemen’s silver Waltham watch, originally an open-face but has been made into a hunting case by attaching to the front the back case of another watch, Roman numerals (no glass); and about £3 in money ; total value, about £B. Watch identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Quintet or Mattex (names probably fictitious), age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., strong build, dark complexion and hair, small dark moustache; well dressed in a dark suit and light-fawn overcoat (no hat). He shared a room with complainant, and at 7 a.m. he had disappeared, and it was then discovered that the watch and money had been stolen.

Auckland. About the 30th September last, from the dwelling of DULCIE BERNADETT SMITH, Rossville Apartments, 4 Eden Crescent, a grey squirrel three-quarter length fur coat, lined with grey material, fastens with two large grey buttons, large collar, slightly worn on each elbow; value, £SO. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Arthur Albert Smith, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of England, strong build, fresh complexion, fair hair ; dressed in a navy-blue suit. He called at complainant’s room while she was absent, and he may have stolen the coat. He has been interviewed by the Upper Hutt police, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. —During the night of the 9th ultimo, the countinghouse of the N.Z. MILLINERY SUPPLIES, 151 Albert Street, was broken into and the following stolen : £2 4s. in money; an 18 ct. gold wedding ring, about f in. wide, oval surface, weighs about | oz. ; and a gentlemen’s old-gold open-face pocket watch, about 1-| in. in diameter, pale gold-coloured dial, spray of green leaves and pink flowers engraved on back; total value, £l2 4s. Identifiable except money. During the same night the adjoining countinghouse, the property of the BARRY MANUFACTURING CO., was broken into and the following stolen: A suit (recovered); 15s.’ in money; two pairs of sports trousers of olive-green flannel worsted material, fit man about 5 ft. 9 in., with 31 in. waist, two side straps (no buttons or belt loops), “ 351 M. &C. 4T.” stamped on inside hip pocket; total value, £6 10s. Trousers identifiable. The suit was subsequently recovered from the factory of the N.Z. Millinery Supplies.

Otahuhu. — ultimo, from the dwelling of JOHN LEONARD CLARK, Nixon Street, a gentlemen’s silver hunting Elgin pocket watch, No. 4486238 ; a two-cell torch; six keys ; six white handkerchiefs with blue stripes; 16s. ; and three hundred and twenty threepenny pieces; total value, £9 16s. Identifiable except money and handkerchiefs.

New Plymouth. —-2nd ultimo, from a train between Aramoho and Inglewood, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Department), a military bayonet, “ West Coast Mounted Rifles, No. 431 ” stamped on handle ; value, £1 10s. Identifiable.

Lower Hutt. Bth ultimo, from clothing on the eastern bank of the Hutt River, the property of ALEC OSBORNE McLEOD, 8 Lockett Street, a gentlemen’s chromium semirectangular Tip Top lever wristlet-watch, Arabic numerals, luminous dial, black leather wrist-strap attached; value, £1 15s. Identifiable.

Wellington.— 24th September last, from the dwelling of EDWARD JOSEPH LEZARD, 38 Waipapa Road, £1 13s. in money; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold old keyless hunting fob watch, repair No. Y. 578, chased design, gilt dial; and a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting American Waltham lever watch, five-year guarantee stamp and repair No. Y. 576 on inside back case; total value, £l6 13s. Identifiable except money.

Wellington. —During the night of 3rd ultimo, the shop of DAVID LEWIS, 3 Bay Road, Kilbirnie, was broken into and the following stolen: A ladies’ red Roslyn cardigan, zigzag stitch; a ladies’ green cardigan, ribbed pattern, s.w. size; a lime-green frock, high neckline, six buttons on back, embroidered with red material on front, s.w. size; a large red frock, V-shaped neck, spray of flowers at neck; a red and green frock with green sash and V-shaped neck, rucked at top, s.w. size ; a white camel-hair coat with collar, pocket on each side, two or three buttons on front, fully lined with fawn material, s.w. size ; a fawn costume coat with fawn lining, belt at back, two buttons on each sleeve, one button on front, s.w. size ; a gentlemen’s grey or greenishblue sports coat, Fox or Roslyn make; six pairs of hosiery of various makes and sizes; three pairs of socks, Jacquard brand, sizes 10J in., assorted colours; a ladies’ blue locknit singlet; a blue slip; a green slip ; and a pair of green bloomers; total value, £lB 16s. 6d. Cardigans, frocks, and coat identifiable.

Wellington. Between the 30th September last and 9th ultimo, from the ship “ Rimutaka ” between Wellington and Lyttelton or Wellington and Auckland, the property of AVERY TAYLOR AND CO., Colonial Mutual Buildings, Auckland, one hundred and thirty-eight Loewe pipes of light and medium colours, mounted with J in. silver bands ; and nine Loewe pipes of light, medium, and dark colours (all branded “ L. and Co.”), and are of various shapes ; total value, £96 10s. 2d. Not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Stanley Alekna, alias Jones, referred to in Police Gazette, 1931, page 318, and Photographs, page 49. He is a wharflabourer, and he is believed to have sold similar pipes to those described above. He has been interviewed and his house searched, but no evidence resulted.

Wellington. 2lst September last, from the shop of GEORGE REGINALD CONYNGHAM, 43 Parish Street, some yellow cardboard boxes containing about sixty pairs of ladies’ fully fashioned stockings, silk tops, “ Vita Bloom ” and a red rose stamped on them in ink, mostly animation and Gipsy wine colours, sizes mainly 9J; total value, £l4. Not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about thirty-seven, height about 5 ft. 7 in., strong build, fair complexion and hair; wearing a navy or dark suit and white scarf around neck (no hat). He was seen in Parish Street about the time the offence was committed carrying boxes similar to those stolen from which some stockings were exposed.

Greymouth. Between the 27th and 30th ultimo, the countinghouse of the DISPATCH FOUNDRY CO., LTD., Lord Street, was broken into and the following stolen : An L. C. Smith typewriter, standard model, No. 1242191814, 14 in. carriage, rubber tabs on keys; and twenty-three circular metal Red Cross badges, blue enamel face the centre of which is white with a red cross on it, twelve are about the size of a sixpence with a brooch-pin at back, and the other eleven are slightly smaller with a tie-pin; total value, £46 Is. Typewriter identifiable.

Dunedin.— Between the 27th September last and 4th ultimo, from the dwelling of ELIZABETH BRECK, 19 Farquharson Street, Opoho, a heavy black Onoto fountainpen with broad gold band on cap (no pocket clip); a gentlemen’s 15 ct. gold snake ring, three coils of a snake with head and tail, about J in. wide ; and two £5 notes ; total value, £l3 ss. Identifiable except money.
