Whangarei.— l4th January last, that he may be located and interviewed, George O’Neill Dore, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 5 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, black hair turning grey, light-blue eyes; dressed in a dark-brown suit with pin stripes and tan shoes ; well spoken ; quiet manner ; fond of the company of young women. He obtained £5 cash from Harry James . Curline, garage proprietor, Waipu, by means of a cheque for £5 Bs. 6d., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Whangarei, in favour of H. Curline, which he tendered in payment for a gallon of oil purchased on the sth January last. When the cheque was presented at the bank it was discovered that there were insufficient funds to meet it. He is also to be interviewed regarding a cheque for £6, drawn on the bank referred to in favour of E. Glass, which he tendered on the same date to Arthur Henry Glass, licensee, Central Hotel, Dargaville, in payment for a room and received £6 cash. He did not occupy the room but disappeared.. (See Police Gazette, 1939, page 99. /g, 7~£7 Auckland. —On or about 30th November last, for forgery and uttering, Man (name unknown), age about thirty-two, height about 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, dark complexion and hair; wearing a khaki shirt and leather or canvas apron, and had the appearance of a carrier. On the 28th November last a cheque, No. 14587 C, for £6 35., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, in favour of A. T. Lea, was mailed to the latter at Riverhead. It failed to reach the addressee, and two days later accused endorsed the cheque “ A. T. Lea,” and received £6 3s. cash from George William Read, licensee, Edinburgh Castle Hotel, Symonds Street. No warrant.

Manunui.— l6th Jaimary last, for theft of £2 Os. 6d. in money, the property of Thomas Tonga, mill hand, Joe Tainui, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 4-] : in., labourer, native of Hawaii, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, large nose, two scars on left forearm; scar on left side of neck and on forehead. Accused stayed with complainant from the 13th to the 16th January last, and on the latter date complainant’s wife gave him a money-order telegram and £2 Os. 6d. cash to be forwarded to “ The Manager, Taihape Brewery,” in payment for liquor. Later the same day he informed Mrs. Tonga that he had forwarded the telegram, but it has not been received by the Taihape Brewery. He then asked for the loan of and was given the following described property, falsely stating that he was going to work for Mr. Denman, Baker, Taumarunui: A well-worn khaki military overcoat, “ Mata Nichols ” in pencil on lining at back; a black ukulele case, lined with wool; and a mixed brown knitted woollen pullover; value, £2. Identifiable. The photograph of Joe Tainui, alias Bishaw, alias Besa, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 65, and Photographs, 1926, page 44, has been identified as that of accused. ; Dunedin.— About the sth September, 1938, for false pretences, A. A. Thompson, age about fifty, height about 5 ft. 11 in., french polisher, strong stout build, dark complexion, black hair going bald, dark eyes, speaks slowly, and when in conversation he has a habit of twitching his nose ; usually .dressed in dark clothes;, plausible.' Accused obtained £25 from Donald Tyndall Withers, 79 Innes Road, St. Albans, Christchurch, by falsely representing that he had secured the lease of a piece of land in the Amusement Park at the Centennial Exhibition Grounds, Wellington, and that the sum mentioned was for half the piece of land. There are other similar charges pending, and when he is located the file is to be obtained from the Superintendent of Police, Dunedin. No warrant.
Gore. Peter Walker, alias Alexander, failing to maintain: It has been ascertained that he is now in Australia. (See Police Gazette, 1938, page 850.)
Gore.— During September, 1938, for false pretences, IVian (name unknown), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 8 in., strong build, dark complexion, black hair, full face; dressed in dark clothes and a dark-green hat; a half-caste Maori; well spoken. Accused obtained money from various people by representing that he was collecting in aid of the Methodist Maori Mission, Temuka. He is to be interviewed. No warrant.
