Theft from Ship “ Rangitata.” Auckland. — Theft from ship “ Rangitata ” (see Police Gazette, 1939, page 33) : The following Bank of England notes may also have been stolen: Three or four £1 notes, probably numbered 347218 to 347221 ; about twenty 10s. notes, probably numbered between 85 W 99501 to 85 W 99518, and 85 W 99540 to 85 W 99550 ; three or four £5 notes numbered between B. 14881809 and B. 14881820 ; and a £5 note, No. 332 over J. 71417. The following are further particulars of some of the travellers’ cheques which were stolen: One for £5 issued by Lloyds Bank, Yak Street, Twickenham, to J. R. G. Bolton, dated 5/10/38 ; one for £5 issued by Thomas Cook and Son, Buchanan Street, Glasgow, to H. M. Jackson, No. G. 696725, dated 5/10/38 ; one for £5 issued by Barclay’s Bank, Georgetown, British Guiana, to H. Halstead, No. 530135, dated 7/10/38; one for £2 issued by Thomas Cook and Son, Auckland, to G. Booth, No. 753831, dated 10/6/38; one for £lO issued by Thomas Cook and Son, Auckland, to G. Booth, number between 304576 and 304579, dated 10/6/38 ; three for £5 each issued by the Bank of Scotland, Albert Street, Dundee, to E. C. Hamilton, Nos. 013984, 013985, 013986, dated 4/10/38 ; two for £5 each, issued by the Bank of New South Wales, 47 Barclay Square, London, to J. Waller, dated 30/9/38; one for £5 issued by the last-mentioned bank to E. I. Pittar, dated 8/10/38 ; three cheques for £5 each issued to K. F. Railway-pass Lost. North Dunedin. —Between June and December, 1938, a police second-class railway-pass, No. 761, disappeared from North Dunedin Police-station. Members of the Force are to be on the alert to recover it.
