On the 28th April last he failed to appear at the Court in answer to a summons on a charge of theft. The charge was heard in his absence, and he was admitted to probation for one year and ordered to make restitution of £l.

New Plymouth. 29th ultimo, on warrant for breaking and entering the office of Black and Jacka, Ltd., garage . proprietors, St. Aubyn Street, and stealing 7d. — (1) Les Brent, age about twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 8 in., good “* “"Build, fresh complexion, fair hair ; dressed in grey trousers and dark coat (no hat). (2) Charles Preston, age about nineteen, height about 5 ft. bin/, good build, fresh complexion, dark wavy hair; dressed in a navy-blue suit, navy-blue cloth overcoat, and patent leather shoes (no hat.) At about 12.15 a.m. on the 29th ultimo they were found in the premises mentioned by an employee of the firm, and on handing over the stolen money they were permitted to leave. Inquiries have revealed that they were in and about New Plymouth from the 16th ultimo until the early part of this month, and they are suspected of having committed other similar offences. They may be identical with two youths described below who deserted from the ship “ Arawa ” at New Plymouth on the 16th ultimo (ILJL. Inglis, age about nineteen, seaman. (2) G. Wills, age about eighteen, cook's boy. They are believed to be y natives of England. On the night of the Ist instant accused slept in Selwyn House in a cubicle also occupied by an invalid pensioner David William Hutton. On the 3rd instant he again returned to Selwyn House and was given a bed in a sitting-room. Her clothing is marked with a cross or “ U ” ; mentally defective appearance.

Christchurch. —16th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife and children, Frank Rodden, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., traveller, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes.
