Auckland. — 12th January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £l6 15s. balance of fine and costs for making a false statement (Employment Promotion Act), Richard Thomas Carroll, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 404, and Photographs, 1921, page 46.

Auckland. —4th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Florence Grace Relph, 39 Anglesea Street, Ponsonby, Maurice william Ralph, age twenty, height 5 ft. 5 in., stoker, native of New Zealand, .stout build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes.^

Auckland. —2nd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £6 15s. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of . whom Doris Lillian Patchett is the mother, John Burton, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., carpenter and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, curly dark hair, blue eyes, hangs his head; usually dressed in grey trousers, green pullover, and dark coat and vest (seldoms wears a hat); slovenly gait ; frequents billiardrooms and racecourses. Auckland.— Phillip George Martin, default of fine and costs (see Police Gazette, 1938, page 301). He left Wellington for Australia on the 12th February last, and he is now said to be a traveller, age forty-three.

Auckland. —12th October, 1937, on warrant for false pretences, Hugh Anthony Parker, alias Edward Tregenza, alias Carlisle, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and showman, native of Australia, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, Roman nose, scar on right upper arm, on left forearm, and at corner of left eye. Accused obtained £6 ss. from Reuben Zukerman by falsely representing that a gilded ss. English piece was a genuine £5 English gold piece. Auckland.— 26th ultimo, that a summons for selling liquor without a license may be served on her, Frances Jones, age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 3 in., stout build, dark complexion, wavy dark hair. She may assume' the name O’Brien.

Auckland. On or about the 9th March last, for false pretences, Mary Elizabeth Agnew, alias Downing, age thirtynine, height 5 ft. 2 in., married, native of England, stout build, florid complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, slanting scar on right side of mouth, slightly stooped; wears pince-nez; talks from side of mouth; slight Lancashire accent; fond of drink. Her maiden name was Corrigan. She was accompanied by her daughter, Muriel (age eleven, slight build, brown hair, hazel eyes, thin face), and her son, Kasper (age three). Accused, who with her husband and children, conducted an apartment house at 45 Sentinel Road, Herne Bay, obtained £l4O from Gertie Angel, by falsely representing that all furniture and effects in the house were her own unencumbered property, whereas in fact they were held by her and her husband under a hire-purchase agreement with the Oak Furnishing Co. She is in Australia, but is expected to return to this Dominion. If located, the file is to be obtained from the Superintendent of Police, Auckland, /•before she is interviewed. No warrant.

Hastings. —l7th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his two children, Sonny Thompson, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, slightly stooped ; a half-caste Maori. y^^Py^y

Palmerston North. —2nd ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, J. Stewart, age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 5 in., salesman, medium build, -dark complexion and hair, brown eyes ; well dressed in a dark-grey suit; well spoken. Accused obtained a radio-set and £ll 18s. 6d. cash from the New Zealand Express Co. by means of a valueless cheque for £l4 19s. which he tendered in payment of a deposit of £3 on the radio-set, value, £lB 10s. The cheque was No. A. 087922, on the Bank of New South Wales, Karangahape Road, Auckland, payable to “ Cash,” signed J. Stewart, and dated 2nd May, 1938. It was from the cheque-book of Ronald Noel Mahon of Christchurch, "whose description is similar to that of accused, and they may be one and the same person. Palmerston North. sth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, J. Arthur, alias Peter Arthur, alias J. R. Cambell (names probably fictitious), age about thirty-seven, height about 6 ft., strong build, dark complexion, wavy dark hair, deep lines across forehead ; wearing a fawn overcoat (no hat). Accused obtained a Brownie camera and film, value, £2 45., and £4 16s. in money, from Charles Feroza Framjee, photographic dealer, 13 George Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £7 on the Bank of New Zealand, Palmerston North, No. E. 462744, in favour of J. Arthur, and signed J. R. Cambell. Later the same day he tried to sell the camera to a second-hand dealer to whom he gave the name Peter Arthur. The dealer attempted to detain him, but he abandoned the camera and disappeared.

Wellington. 24th ultimo, that he may be located and returned to prison, John Ranski, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 190, and Photographs, 1921, page 32. He is a habitual criminal on probationary license, and his license has been cancelled. (P. 38/691.)

Wellington. 3rd ultimo, on warrant for that at Wellington he is deemed to be an idle and disorderly person in that he has insufficient lawful means of support, Gordon Clifford McGregor, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 7 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, browfi hair, green eyes, scar on left -forefingery r / M, Wellington. —llth ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Hilda Rebecca Cains, Alexander Cyril Cains, age thipty-two, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer and timber-mill hand, native of New Zealand, good build, fair complexion turning dark, sandy hair, green-grey eyes, broad nose, mole on back and at back of one knee, four scars on right forearm, scar on left wrist, short quick gait. Arrears to 24th January last, £93 3s. (See Police Gazette, 1937, page 272.) Wellington.— 3rd Ultimo, for assaulting Pearl Margaret Wilson, 50 Daniel Street, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair, thin face, slightly round shoulders; wearing a red and blue striped blazer, navy-blue jersey with polo neck, and navy-blue felt hat. About 11.30 a.m. while complainant was walking in Alexandra Road accused threw her to the ground several times. He had with him a dog of the following description : An average-sized fox terrier which appeared to be well bred, tan and white in colour, tan markings around head, and tan patch on back near tail. No warrant.

Wellington. —4th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Ada Mabel Burton, and two children, 67 Vivian Street, Clarence Valentine Burton, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, olive complexion, fair hair, blue eyes.
