Whangarei. —l 6th March last, that two summonses may be served on him for failing to comply with the terms of maintenance orders for the support of his wife and child, Thomas Albert Purcell, age fifty-one, height 5 ft. 4£in., painter and labourer, native of England, thin build, fair complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, scar on right little finger, on ball of right thumb, and under arch of right foot, fond of drink. Auckland.4th instant, on warrant of arrest for being a delinquent child, Winifred Alice Phipps, age sixteen years and a half, height 5 ft. 5 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, rather long brown wavy hair, wearing a white Bemberg frock or wine-coloured tunic frock, white raincoat, blue gloves, and brown or white shoes. She had a blue handbag and an attache-case in her possession. Her photograph is filed. On the 20th ultimo she ran away from her home, and on that day her mother’s post office savings-bank book with a withdrawal slip for £33 4s. Id. was presented at the post office and the money was paid out, her mother’s signature having been forged. She is suspected of this offence. Hamilton. —15th March last, on warrant for being intoxicated in charge of a vehicle, No. 78,142, at Te Rapa on the Ngaruawahia-Hamilton Road, Ernest Stuart, age thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., porter, barman, and labourer, native of Australia, slight build, sallow complexion, lightbrown hair, grey eyes, sharp nose and features ; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit ; talks quickly; neat appearance. As a result of a collision with another motor-car he was admitted to hospital where it was found that he was intoxicated and slightly injured.

Cambridge. 4th instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £6 11s. fine and costs for being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car, Eruiti Eruera Edwards, alias Edward Mahanga, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 43, and Photographs, 1930, page 13 ' jvvi£atecU-Z#/6/M

Gisborne. —On or about the 25th March last, for theft of a money-order (recovered) for £2 10s., in favour of S. Parkes, Man (name unknown), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, sallow complexion, thin features ; roughly dressed. About the date mentioned an assistant employed by Sydney Parkes, 54 Gladstone Road, lost the money- order, and on the same day it was cashed in the Coronation Hotel by accused. No warrant.

Waitara. —16th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value, £B, the property of Jack Wharepouri, Waitara Road, Brixton, Thomas Roberts, alias Norman Williams, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 175, and Photographs, page 52. He represents himself to be a motordriver for a timber company, or for the General Manager, Railways Department. Complainant found accused riding the bicycle, and telephoned for the police, but accused abandoned the bicycle and disappeared. He is suspected of other similar offences.

Wellington. —27th ultimo, on warrant for being absent from the ship “ Naumberg ” without leave, Otto Lundt, age twenty-eight, seaman, native of Germany, good build, fair complexion, ginger hair, nose broken, speaks broken English, pressed in a black suit, dark-coloured raincoat, light felt ha t , and 2 V 2 /3, f .

Wellington.— 2oth ultimo, on two warrants of commitment to Napier Prison for two months on each in default of paying £53 2s. 6d. arrears on maintenance orders for the support of his wife and three children, George Armitage, alias McLean, alias McLeod, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 392, and Photographs, 1914, page 21. Wellington. 9th February last, on warrant for false pretences, woman who gave the name E. M. Erieington (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 6J in., stout build, fresh complexion, dark hair ; neatly dressed; well spoken with either a Scotch or Irish accent; wearing a dark coat and hat. Accused obtained from Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd., drapers, Lambton Quay, Chinese silk and satin nightdresses, underslips, brassiers, and panties, value, £l3 ss. 6d. by falsely representing that she had been sent for the articles by Mrs. Alderson, 119 Moxham Avenue, who is a well-known customer of the firm.

Picton. During the night of the 16th ultimo, some person unknown broke and entered the railway-station and searched the office but did not steal anything. The same night a bicycle was unlawfully removed from Picton, and later recovered at Spring Creek. At the latter place a bicycle, the property of David William Boniface, was stolen (referred to under the heading “ Bicycles ” in this issue), and has not yet been recovered. Christchurch.— 2nd instant, for escaping from Paparua Prison, Francis Henry Gordon Guilford, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 805, and Photographs, 1938, page 8.
