PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland.- Ist March last, the property of GORDON FRANK BROOKBANKS, 9 Marine Terrace, Bayswater, a set of motor registration number-plates for 1937-38, No. 103,209 ; a pair of child’s fawn leather sandals with crepe soles; and a Morris Standard hub cap of a 1936 model motor-car: total value, £1 Is. 6d. Number-plates only identifiable. The property was stolen from complainant’s motor-car which was unlawfully removed from Queen Street. Some days later the car was recovered at Avondale.

Auckland. — the sth and 7th February last, from a motor-lorry at Ellerslie, the property of GORDON HUNTER, a six-volt Exide Battery, seventeen plate, branded “ 243 ” on top lead bars ; a five-ton model Eversure hydraulic jack, No. 904, branded “ Made in Birmingham ” ; and a set of Chrome Vadium spanners marked with three straight cuts on handles and three marks in jaws : total value, £2O 15s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —18th February last, the property of JACK MULCAHY, 173 Grafton Road, a heavyweight aluminium alloy Sturmey Archer gear-box, kick starter attached which has been broken and mended by bronze- welding; and a footrest with steel plates at each end : total value, £5 7s. 6d. Identifiable. The property was stolen from complainant’s motor-cycle which was unlawfully removed from Hobson Street. The machine was recovered some days later in Fanshaw Street.

Auckland. —17th March last, from a motor-car in Queen Street, the property of WILLIAM JAMES REID, 4 Ring Terrace, Ponsonby, a gentlemen’s Raglan tweed overcoat, grey with white spots; and three parcels containing two suits of blue and cream pyjamas, size X.O.S. ; two cream Roslyn singlets, size 0.5.; and six semi-stiff collars, size 18 : total value, £6 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. 3lst January last, from a shed, the property of JOHN lIORRIS POWELL, 1 Ponsonby Terrace, Ponsonby, a half horse-power alternating current Century electric motor, “ R.M.1./.0/.C, volts 115 or 230, Cycles 50, Revs per minute, 1460 ” on plate ; a fin. saw spindle, 2 ft. long with chuckle at one end for wood-boring bit, and f in. bolt at other end for circular saw, and a 3 in. pulley in centre, 1 in. wide, shaped with a“ V ” for belt: total value, £l3. Spindle only identifiable.

Auckland. —During the night of 30th March last, the Runciman Post-office, Great South Road, was broken into and the following, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department) stolen : A black steel cash-box, about 9 in. by 6 in. by 4 in., with a tray which has three compartments ; and £49 17s. 2d. in money : total value, £SO Is. Bd. Not identifiable. The cash-box and money were in a safe which was opened by means of explosives.

Otahuhu. sth February last, the property of LENA TALBOT, Arthur Road, Manurewa, a black and white purebred fox terrier dog, brown spot over each eye, weight twentysix pounds', answers to the name “ Peter ” ; value, £157 10s. Identifiable. While complainant was in the Star Hotel the dog disappeared, and the owner believes it has been stolen.

Rotobua. —Bth March last, from the dwelling of EDWIN HENRY RUMMING, Te Ngae Road, a -22 calibre single-shot 1904 model Winchester rifle, bolt action, cartridge ejector defective ; value, 10s. Identifiable.

Napier. 26th February last, from her fruit shop, 102 Hastings Street, the property of ANNIE HUTTON, a ladies’ brown crocodile leather purse, about 10 in. by 6 in. fold-over flap; a ladies’ gold keyless Geneva lever wristlet-watch, No. 443108, octagonal dial, gold hands, Arabic numerals; and £3 in money : total value, £l4 3s. Identifiable except money.

Mastebton.— the 9th or 10th February last, the dwelling-of THOMAS FRASER WATSON, Opaki Road, Lansdowne, was broken into and the following stolen: A wristlet-watch, luminous dial, silver wrist-band attached; a fawn leather dressing-case ; a hair-brush ; comb ; a green soap-dish ; a glass powder-bottle with nickel top ; a string of greenstone beads and a pair of earrings to match, two bead drop with gold screw fastener; a string of cornelian beads ; six gentlemen’s plain white linen handkerchiefs with “T” in oval in corner ; six fruit knives with pearl handles ; six fruit forks with pearl handles in case with “ N.E.W.” on it; a white silk scarf with fringes; a black and white silk scarf with fringes; a blue mottled Swan fountain-pen; a grey mottled Eversharp pencil; and a gold Eversharp pencil: total value, £9 12s. Portion identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Ronald Dempsey Crook and James Butler, alias Jock Evans, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 258, who have been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Greytown. Between the Bth and 17th January last, from the dwelling of JESSIE FRANCIS FALCONER, West Street, a ladies’ gold 7-jewel wristlet-watch, No. 1409420, “ Moeris ” on movement, with wristlet about -g in. wide with meshed links ; value, £2O. Identifiable.

Petone. —Between the 17th and 20th March last, from the War Museum, at Trentham Military Camp, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Department), a nickel-plated 6 in. Chinese automatic pistol, made by the Shanghai Arsenal, may have “ 1918 ” on metal parts and Chinese characters on butt; and a magazine for same pistol, containing several nickel-plated dummy bullets: total value, £5.
