PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland.- —2Bth February last, from a motor-car in Mills Lane,' the property of JOHN WILLIAM MOORE CARPENTER, 186 Remuera Road, a garnet necklace 14 J in. long, garnets are red and resemble rubies, Tudor rose in centre with garnets set round it, three small garnets pendent from setting, minute soldered join near setting in centre ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Auckland. —On the 26th February last the shop of REUBEN JAFFE, 344 Queen Street, was broken into and the following .stolen: Three gentlemen’s brown overcoats, size 3, half lined with art silk material; four gentlemen’s grey tweed overcoats, size 5, half lined with art silk material; twenty-five navy-blue serge suits, sizes 4,5, and 6, singlebreasted ; seven single-breasted two-piece suits, mainly light-grey in colour, coats lined with art silk material; three pairs of light-grey flannel trousers. All coats have “ Jaffe, Everybodys Tailor ” and “ R. Jaffe, Queen Street ” on them : total value, £2OO. Identifiable.

Auckland. —Between the sth and 7th instant, from the dwelling of AVIS EDWARDS, Rathgar Road, Henderson, forty-nine. £1 notes, two 10s. notes, and £1 in silver. Not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to John Cyril Thomas Hogan, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 669,. and Photographs, 1934, page 26, who was employed by complainant, and when he left the money was found to be missing.. He was interviewed by the Auckland police, but no action was taken, and his statement has since proved to be untrue. It is desired that he again be interviewed regarding his movements on the night of the 6th instant, and also to account for the money which was seen in his possession th. night. Z/ltfa

Auckland. —During the night of the 22nd February last the premises of MOODY’S DYE WORKS, LTD., Crowhurst Street, Newmarket, were broken into and the following stolen: A blue worsted suit with faint white stripes, in. apart, size 5, “ 1334 ” in indelible pencil on lining at top of right sleeve, on right hand side of waistcoat lining, and on hip pocket, leather sewn inside bottoms of trousers ; and £1 9s. in money : total value, £7 19s. Suit only identifiable.

New Plymouth. —lst February last, from a dressing-shed at Fitzroy Beach, the property of CECIL JAMES ETHERIDGE SMITH, 22 Vivian Street, a gentlemen’s gold square wristlet-watch (probably Rolex), round dial, Arabic numerals, “ C.J.E.S.” and date in April, 1926, on back case, leather strap with gold clasp attached; value, £7 10s. Identifiable.

Palmerston North. —Between 12.45 a.m. and 1.30 a.m. on the 24th instant, from a motor-car in King Street, the property of HENRY JAMES SUTTON, dance-hall proprietor, 157 Bryant Street, a brown leather school bag about 10 in. by 10 in., converted into a cash bag, containing two £5 notes, one of which has figures in indelible pencil on back where cash totals had been worked out; £ll9 in £1 notes, some 10s. notes, and about £2O in silver : total value, £l4l.

Upper Hutt. —On the 24th or 25th February last, the dwelling of MACKAY lAN CAMPBELL, Pinehaven, Silverstream, was broken into and the following stolen: A -22 calibre F.N. single-shot rifle, No. 18815, Belgium make, home-made screw in rear sight; and about 7s. in coppers : total value, £1 17s. 6d. Rifle only identifiable.

Wellington. —Between the 16th and 18th January last, from a room at 70 Boulcott Street, the property of CLARENCE VALENTINE BURTON, a knife, with brass handle and copper blade, electro-plated, curved blade 6 in. long, handle 4 in. long in the representation of a boy in the nude ; and a black metal Diana air-pistol: total value, £2 15s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Leslie Wilson, age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., hotel porter and showman, medium build, pale complexion, brown wavy hair, small hazel eyes. This man, who was acquainted with complainant’s room-mate, was alone in the room on the evening of the 17th January last, and he is to be interviewed regarding the theft.

Wellington. —22nd ultimo, from the dwelling of RUBY CONSTANCE SCOTT, 2 Bourke Street, a gentlemen’s gold pocket watch (recovered); a ladies’ gold round wristletwatch, No. 3623, Arabic numerals, “ R.C.F.” on back case, black moire band attached; a ladies’ narrow gold bangle, set with a number of white pearls and a sapphire in form of lovers’ knot, square design, opens on hinge with safety chain attached; and £3 12s. 3d. in money: total value, £l7 2s. 3d. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to George Walter Roche, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 270, and Photographs, 1936, page 34, whose photograph has been identified by complainant as being like that of a man whom she saw loitering near the house. fa

Wellington. — February last, from a bedroom at 35 Hay Street, the property of ALLEYNE GUY KENTISH MAYFIELD, a gentlemen’s brown leather pocket wallet about 6 in. by 4 in., with red edging, four large and several small compartments; a gentlemen’s oblong chromiumplated Swiss wristlet-watch, No. 0535486, Aero type dial (figures show at openings in dial), leather wrist-strap attached; £5 10s. in cash ; several photographs ; and sundry papers : total value, £9 10s. Identifiable except money..

Timaru. —On the 15th instant, the store of SOUTH CANTERBURY FARMERS’ CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION, LTD., Geraldine, was broken into and the following , v / stolen: A straw-coloured late model half-ton Willy a 77. motor-truck, engine No. 45998, chassis No. 45004, regis- ■ tration No. L. 22,849, fitted with sedan cab, red disc airwheels, with Goodyear four-ply tires, size 550-16, sides of truck about 2 ft. deep, travelled about 3,500 miles, The Farmers ”in red on each door; a Goblin electric carpetsweeper a Knight carpet-sweeper; an eight-day wooden striking-clock ; a shock-proof Swiss lever wristlet-watch ; X )Lj\ three or four other wristlet-watches ; several razors ; bed-room / lamps; a quantity of cigarettes and chocolates; and £3 4s. 6d. in money : total valufe, £362. Suspicion is attached to TWO Men, both about twenty-one years of age, about 5 ft. 3 in., in height, of strong build, fresh complexions, thick dark-brown hair, and broad faces; one wore a short leather coat, motor overall trousers, and gum boots, and the other wore an ordinary length leather overcoat, motor helmet, and heavy tan leather boots.
