PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. On the 25th or 26th September last, the property of VERNON HOWARD HAMILTON, Royal Marine, H.M.S. “ Leander,” a gentlemen’s silver Westclox wristlet-watch with silver expanding wrist-band attached ; a hand-sewn • buckskin glove, No. 7585, made by Dent’s, England ; and about £2 in money : total value, £9 Is. Identifiable except money. Complainant became intoxicated at 39 Albert Street, and later he discovered that the abovementioned property had been stolen.

Auckland. —Between the 13th October and Ist November last, a shed in Landscape Road, Mount Roskill was broken into and the following, the property of HENRY ERNEST JOHNSON, stolen: A gentlemen’s herring bone suit, size 6, with black • stripes; a gentlemen’s.., gold hunting Elgin watch, No. 28308592, Arabic numerals, 'may have “ J.L.” or “J. Lester ” on inside back case; a gentlemen’s gold watch-chain with greenstone tiki attached; and a pair of gentlemen’s black kid shoes, size 8, may have Stones, Queen Street, Auckland, brand on them : total value, £22 12s. Identifiable except shoes. Suspicion is attached to Raymond Trevor Childs, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page’ 480, and Photographs, 1930, page 41. He is usually dressed in a navy-blue suit, a shirt with collar attached, and a felt hat; frequents gambling schools; abrupt speech; slow gait; hostile to police. Complainant is a showman, and the suspect who was employed by him left his employment at Hastings and returned to Auckland. He was subsequently seen wearing a suit similar to the one described above, and was interviewed by the Auckland police, but he denied the offence. Auckland. —Between 22nd and 25th October last, from a derrick in a reserve at Torbay, the. property of GLYN KENNETH THOMAS, well-borer, Crown Hill, Takapuna, a set of electroplated Borden stock and dies, made in U.S.A., dies are from \ in. thread to 1 in. thread and are adjustable with a slide, pipe guide at rear is adjustable; a set of Little Giant stock and dies, made in U.S.A., painted red, no handle ; and a cylindrical-shaped petrol tank, about 24 in. long and 9 in. in diameter, two compartments, painted green, iron strap attached for mounting in vertical position: total value, £7 15s, Identifiable. , VUMWd/ZZl<el%'

Auckland. —On the 4th or sth December last, the shop of LAURENCE MORRIS BLYTHE, 310 Karangahape Road, was broken into and the following stolen: Seven pairs of gentlemen’s grey woollen half hose, sizes 10J and 11, “ Two fold heel and toe, Botany wool, made in England ” branded on soles; twenty-four pairs of brown and greenishgrey woollen half hose, marie shades, assorted sizes; twelve pairs of silk half hose, assorted sizes and colours, Top Dog brand; thirty-two pairs of black woollen half-hose, Wolsey Million brand, Cardinal’s head branded on sole, sizes 10, 10J, and 11 ; forty-eight gentlemen’s white handkerchiefs, Beta*brand; twelve leather belts, Domo brand, assorted buckles, “ Genuine cow hide ” on inside each belt; eight Superior brand Lichfield ' coat-shirts with ties, assorted colours and sizes; seven Winder brand Lichfield coatshirts with ties, assorted colours and sizes; thirty Lichfield, Mandex, Douglas, Hilson, and Summit brand coat-shirts with ties, assorted colours, sizes 3 ; six youth’s Sinbad shirts, boiling silk, sizes 8, assorted colours; four Bonny Boy shirts, sizes 8, assorted colours, card with spare buttons attached to outside of each shirt; five gentlemen’s Bemberg boiling silk coat-shirts, fine coloured line pattern, sizes 14 and 16; fourteen Domo elastic belts, assorted colours; four Canterbury super locknit coat-shirts with zip and button fasteners, men’s and small men’s sizes, assorted colours, packed in cellophane envelopes; a gentlemen’s Roslyn sports coat, green-coloured tweed, double action back, pleated side and top pockets, tape seamed, single-breasted, size 4; a gentlemen’s Thornproof two-piece suit, fawn marie colour; a gentlemen’s grey Tassie two-piece suit, size 5, pleated pockets and action back; a gentlemen’s fawn Tassie two-piece suit, size 3, pleated pockets, action back; a gentlemen’s grey B.C. two-piece suit, size 4, inset pockets, half lined; four gentlemen’s Truemade two-piece suits, darkish-grey with stripes, metal buttons on inside of trousers, single and double breasted, sizes 4 and 5 ; a gentlemen’s light-grey Tassie two-piece suit, size 5, action back; four gentlemen’s Napier cloth two-piece suits, sizes 4 and 5, light-fawn, darkgrey, light-grey, and light-grey with dark stripes; thirty Parisian and Curtis ties of assorted colours; and eighteen pairs of gentlemen’s sports trousers, assorted brands, sizes 3 : total value, £lO4. Identifiable if price tickets attached on each of which is a letter of the word Creation ” and an “ X.”

Hamilton. During the night of 19th December last, the store at Bruntwood, the property of ROBERT JOHN WARD, was broken* into and the following stolen : A Brookbank safe No. 59773, about 36 in. by 20 in. by 20 in., weighs about 3 cwt., containing office books and papers which are marked “ Bruntwood Store ” ; £8 in money ; a cheque for £9 drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Cambridge, by Lewis and Dallimore; a cheque for £3, drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, Cambridge, by J. C. Pilkington; and a cheque for about £3 (exact amount not known), drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Cambridge, by J. C. Wallace: total value, about £4l. Identifiable except money. The offence may have been committed by Ernest Edwin Newton, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 38, and Photographs, 1930, page 14, and John Leslie Florance, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 675, and Photographs, 1932, page 96. New Plymouth. 3oth October last, from a bedroom in the Breakwater Hotel, the property of KATHLEEN LULU HOWARD, waitress: An old brown leather hand-bag; a post office savings-bank book on New Plymouth branch, No. 109665, in name of Kathleen Lulu Howard, and a Hotel Workers’ Union book in same name; a metal jewel-box, about 12 in. by 4 in. by 2|- in., with a large dragon across lid; a silver round jewel-box, about 2 in. in diameter, silver stud on lid, lined with pink silk; a thin greenstone brooch, about 1J in. long, with 9 ct. gold Kiwi in centre, and gold bar at each end; a 9 ct. gold brooch with cat’s eye of Tahitian shell in centre; a gold pear spray brooch, red stone., set at one end, and has a spray of flowers among which are about five pearls ; a 9 ct. gold brooch with imitation military badge set thereon and a design of Maori whare in centre with “ 30 ” on it; a bangle consisting of military buttons dipped in gold on chain; a half-chased 9 ct. gold bangle, bamboo shape, has been broken in two or three places at joints; a 9 ct. gold bangle, about 1 in. in width, with small hinges set around it about J in. apart; an amber necklet about 3 ft. long of round beads, about size of a pea and fastens with screw into one bead; an amber necklet about 3 ft. long of oblong-shaped beads, with large beads in centre tapering to each end, fastens with screw into one bead; a fancy gold pendant with recess for photograph in each side, set with six or eight amethysts (one stone believed to

be missing), fine gold neck-chain attached ; a 9 ct. gold thin band ring with blue stone in claw setting on top ; an old 18 ct. gold plain band ring with four green stones set in shape of shamrock leaf; and a nickel alarm clock, with “ Bell” stamped on back: .total value, £26. About the 20th November last'the following described clock, the property of MARY MURRAY, was stolen from the same hotel: A bedroom eight-day square folding clock with round luminous dial about 2 in. in diameter, frame has saxe-blue kid cover on the corner of which is the name “ Mary,” brass case ; value, £5. Wanganui. loth or 11th December last, from the dwelling of NELLIE FRANCES MAY, West Street, Taumarunui, an 18 ct. gold heavy wedding ring, which shows a join where it was cut and diminished in size ; a gold engagement ring, set with three diamonds in platinum claw setting ; and a gold marquise ring, set with small diamonds in fairly large oval, one diamond was lost and has been replaced by a diamond chip which does not accurately match the others : total value, £67 10s. Wellington. —During the night of the 12th November last, the shop of OSCAR ADOLPHUS SEYMOUR, 37 Cleveland Street, Brooklyn, was broken into, the safe opened by means of explosives, and the following stolen £44 15s. 9d. in money; a cheque, No. A.—2.106042, for £4 15s. on the Commercial Bank of Australia, Wellington, in favour of L. M. Thomas, signed W. J. Beveridge, Trust Account, dated 11th November, 1937 ; a cheque, No. E. 22789, for £2 on the National Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, payable to “ Cash,” signed S. Holm, for Holm and Co., Ltd. ; and a cheque, No. 13123, for £1 19s. on the Public Account Suspense Account, Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, in favour of D. Callaghan, signed F. G. Jefferson, dated 8/11/37. Cheques only identifiable. Suspicion is attached to William McßeynoldS, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 92, and James O’Neill, an ex-employee of the Wellington Gas Co. They have been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Christchurch. —22nd November last, the dwelling of MARGARET ELIZABETH WHITE, 62 Huxley Street, Sydenham, was broken into and the following stolen : A 9 ct. gold necklace with V-shaped pendant, which is set with an amethyst and pearls ; a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold hunting English watch, Roman numerals, “ J.A.W.” on back; a 9 ct. gold curb chain, large links in centre which taper towards ends; a 9 ct. gold medal, with “ Presented to James A. White by John Gifford,* 21-9-01 ” on it ; a 9 ct. gold Masonic emblem about size of Is. ; a gentlemen’s gold signet ring, “ J.W.” on it a ladies’ 18 ct. gold dress ring, set with four pearls and a ruby or five pearls; a ladies’ dress band ring, set with diamond in centre; and 7s. in money : total value, £26 Bs. 9d.
