He falsely represented to complainant that he resided at 22 Church Street, Onehunga, that he was employed as a photographer at Mangere Aerodrome, and that he held the rank of lieutenant: A ladies’ 9 ct. gold Rival wristlet-watch (not numbered), Denison dust-tight case, silver-coloured dial with gold-coloured figures and hands, black moire silk band, contained in a brown leatherette case, “ W. J. Spooner, 186 Queen Street, Onehunga, watchmaker and jeweller ” on it, in oval rubber stamp; value, £5.

Otahuhu. 23rd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for twenty-one days in default of paying £4 17s. fine and costs, Leonard Huthnance Pugh, age fiftyfive, height 5 ft. 6 in., traveller and salesman, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, grey hair, blue eyes, Roman nose, freckled arms; dressed in a shabby brown suit and grey felt hat; fond of drink ; rides a bicycle. Accused, who was looking for employment, was offered work by .Hector Clarke. farmer, Te Wairoa, who gave Harris a cheque for £1 with which to purchase a tent-frame and groceries on condition that he return and begin work immediately. £1 worth of groceries were obtained from Mountford and Co., Tauranga, after which accused disappeared. He was travelling in a bluish two-seater motor-car, and he was accompanied by a woman who may be his wife. Timaru. 27th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a fivevalve table model dual-wave Philco radio-set (model 38/10, chassis No. D. 19484, license No. 11120 transferred on to chassis; polished walnut cabinet), value, £22 10s., the property of Charles Begg and Co., music-dealers, Stafford Street, T. Richards, (name probably fictitious), age about forty, height' 6 ft., medium build; dressed in a dark suit and felt hat; well spoken; quiet manner; good appearance. Accused, who arranged for permanent board at the Railway Private Hotel, and paid £1 ss. for one week in advance, obtained the radio-set referred to on trial. The set was installed in his room at the hotel, and he paid £1 to the manager of the firm as a guarantee of good faith. That evening Richards and the radio-set disappeared from .the hotel. He was seen leaving about 7 p.m, with a large parcel which may have been the set.

Dunedin. sth ultimo, for forgery and uttering, A. Stewart (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-three, height 5 ft. 3 in., medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and black shoes (no hat). Accused forged the signature “ W. Adams ” to a cheque for £7, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Mosgiel, in favour of “A. Stewart” or “Bearer,” and uttered it to Leslie Bertram Borrow, jeweller, Mosgiel, in payment for a gentlemen’s"" silver "Swiss 15-jewelled watch with skeleton hands and figures (value £1 17s. 6d.), and a gentlemen’s nickel “ Triumph ” wristlet-watch with chromium wrist-band (value £1 3s. 6d.). Complainant gave him 10s. change, and lie was to call next morning for the balance, but he did not do so. Ho told Borrow that lie was employed by William Adams, farmer, Otokia, and that the cheque was for wages due to him, but that statement has proved to be false. The cheque was from the cheque-book of Jan. George Lindsay, whose house at Mamona, Taieri, was destroyed by fire, during the temporary absence of the occupants on the evening of the 15th October last, and the book was left in the house by Lindsay when he was going out. The number of the chequebook was 127305-127352.

Gore. —3rd instant, on two warrants for failing to comply with the terms of maintenance orders for the support of his wife, Edith Scott, and three children, 43 Wigan Street, Thomas Lorimer Scott, age thirty-eight, height ,6 ft., electrician, uative/df ~New Zealand, strong build, florid complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, slightly upturned nose erect gait fond of drink.
