PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. On the 31st July last, the dwelling of JOHN SCOTT WENGDAL, 215 Campbell Road, was broken into and the following stolen : A gentlemen’s nickel open-face keyless watch, repair No. 9868 scratched in case, black Roman numerals, screw case, “ Railway Lever, FT Coy.” on dial, case number is of seven figures commencing with “ 38 ” or “39 ” ; a nickel round alarm clock, “ Jazz ” on dial, luminous, dent in rim ; a pink xylonite bevelled set consisting of tray, hairbrush, comb and mirror; a gentlemen’s white xylonite hairbrush with hollow top, and comb to match ; a white cardboard box with “ Solingen Special, No. 50 Razor ” on it, containing a razor with black xylonite handle, “ Solingen Special, made in Germany ” and “ 50 ” on shank of blade, a j in. semi-circular piece ground out of blade at end ; a gold well-worn wedding ring (may be 9 ct.), small size; an Auckland Savings-bank box, No. 3/5237; a ladies’ red leather handbag, 9 in. by 7 in., chromium top, snap fastener ; a ladies’ dark-brown leather handbag, containing a£l and two ten-shilling notes ; two ladies’ leather handbags; a brown woollen skirt, square patch at back ; a green woollen skirt with faint red stripes, inverted pleats back and front; and a cream-coloured woollen double-bed blanket with pink stripes at each end ; total value, £l7 6s. Identifiable except money.

Auckland. Between the Ist and 22nd September last, from an office near the Grafton Bridge, the property of the AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL, a Silex electric-drill, P. 15 type, about 18 in. long, weighs about 13 lb.; and a Rotax ball-bearing electric-drill, about 13 in. long, weighs about 11 lb. : total value, £27. Identifiable.

Auckland. 2sth September last, from a motor-car in Glenside Crescent, Mount Eden, the property of ALFRED HOLT, manager, J. W. Andrew and Sons, a folding Agfa camera, No. 3E0104 on inside lower spool carrier, F. 4.5 lens fitted with pronto No. 2 shutter, front lens No. 543968, back lens No. 3968, takes film 3£ in. by 2} in.; value, £7 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —On the 25th or 26th September last, from a room at the rear of the. Grandvue Private Hotel, 3 Princes Street, the property of DORIS RODGERS, waitress, a ladies’ brown leather purse, 10 in. by 6 in., snap-fastener, brown lining, containing 4s. 6d. in money a ladies’ gold wristlet-watch, white dial with light-grey stain, Arabic numerals which have been retouched with indelible pencil, gold heavy wristlet-chain, which fastens with push-in spring clasp, and a fine safety-chain attached ; a Provident Life Assurance book in complainant’s name, and some letters and snapshots : total value, £lO. Identifiable except money.

Auckland. —27th September last, from a workroom in the shop of CATHERINE MAY SINCLAIR, 425 Upper Queen Street, a ladies’ black leather handbag, 9 in. by 6 in., small brass clip on one side, “ C. M. Sinclair ” in ink on inside, containing ten £1 notes, 4s. 6d. in silver, four half-pennies, and a gold dress ring, set with two pearls (one missing), and splintered diamonds, set on each side of pearls : total value, £l2 17s. 2d. Identifiable except money.

Auckland. 2sth August last, from clothing in the office of A. Broady and Sons, 36 Kingston Street, the property of DOUGLAS ALEXANDER BROADY, 7 Bellevue Avenue, Northcote, a gentlemen’s wristlet-watch (value, £7, recovered); and a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold dress ring, set with three rubies, “J. Ziman ”on inside; value, £1 15s. Identifiable. The watch was recovered from a pawnshop where it had been pledged by a man who gave the name Harold Blake. He was about forty-five years, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, strong build, fair complexion; wearing a pullover with zipp fastener at neck, brown overcoat, and soft felt hat. William Alexander Thomson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 696, used the firm’s telephone on the afternoon of the offence, and he has been interviewed. He stated that Blake, who waited for him while he used the telephone, subsequently said that he stole the articles above mentioned.

Morrinsville. 27th ultimo, from the dwelling of EDNA MIRTH WERE, Hamilton Road, a ladies’ gold open-face keyless wristlet-watch, No. W2O over 9797, “ Mappin, London ” on dial; value, £lO. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., strong build, dark complexion and hair; dressed in a brown overcoat and dark suit (no hat). Te Kuiti. — 2nd September last, from Riverside Boardinghouse, the property of ADA ANNIE SUTCLIFFE, Bank of Australasia, King Street, a gold engagement ring, set with three diamonds in a row in claw setting, middle diamond is larger than the others ; and a string of cream pearls about 15 in. long : total value, £4B. Identifiable.

Waipukueau. —HAßßY BUTLER’S dwelling broken into (see Police Gazette, 1937, page 546). The first-described man has been arrested by the Waipukurau police, and charged with receiving £6 of the stolen money. He is identical with John Francis Samuel Keen, referred in Police Gazette 1936, page 454, and Photographs, page 45. None of the stolen property has been recovered.

Wellington. Between the 2nd and 7th ultimo, from the office of the Hotel Grand Central, Cuba Street, the property of LOUIS WILFRED GEORGE LETTS, a Robertson portable electric sewing machine, No. 8008808, blackenamelled with nickel-plated fittings, contained in a brown leatherette attache-case; value, £l7. Identifiable.
