Kaitaia. —12th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Kaitaia Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £1 10s. fine and costs for false pretences, Paul Carroll, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 667. , . Juud'Wf/M.

Auckland. —Between the 28th December, 1936, and the 28th February, 1937, for false pretences, Stewart Raymond McArthur, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 3f in., seaman and motor-driver, native of New Zealand, fair complexion, auburn hair, grey eyes. Between the dates above mentioned, on the false representation that he was investing the money for complainant in a motor business in Karangahape Road, he induced Norman Clarenden Gervase Hughes, 10 Birch Street, Avondale, to give him £2B 19s. Before he is interviewed the file is to be obtained from the Superintendent of Police, Auckland. No warrant. (See Police Gazette, 1935, page 613, and Photographs, 1934, page 56). /

Auckland. On or about the Bth ultimo, on warrant for indecently assaulting Norma Katavich, age thirteen, Frederick Hendry, age sixty-one, height about 5 ft. 10 in., baker and cook, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, grey hair and ' eyes; deaf; dressed in grey trousers and grey shirt, or a brown suit and cap. He had a hut at 46 Dominion Road, and he left there without taking his effects. He has formerly been employed as a cook in bush and Public Works camps. There are other similar charges pending. Wairoa. —9th instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for eight days in default of paying £4 3s. 6d., fine and costs for disorderly behaviour, John Raymond Hammond, age about twenty- height 5 ft. 5 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes ; smart appearance. Wanganui. —llth instant, on warrant for indecent assault on a male, George Wilson (name probably fictitious), age about fifty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer and ‘bottlegatherer, native of New Zealand, medium build, tanned complexion, hair turning grey, broken nose, thin lips, set mouth, face and forehead wrinkled; dressed in a grey suit, woollen cardigan with collar, and light-brown felt hat; talkative; plays a Jews harp; frequents hotels; slight Irish accent. While Frederick Roy Withers, age ten, was on his way home from school about two miles from Wanganui he was induced to go into some ferns where accused indecently assaulted him. Accused was discovered in the act by Douglas Smith, to whom he gave the name George Wilson. He ran away leaving behind his overcoat, which is of bluishgrey heavy cloth, Lynx brand, two outside patch pockets in one of which was a Jews harp. The photograph of Erasmus Arthur Jones, alias Arthur Edward Jones, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 716, and Photographs, 1923, page 90, has been identified as that of accused..^

Auckland. Between the 26th February, 1936, and the 31st August, 1936, for theft of £2 75., the property of the N.Z. GOVERNMENT (POST AND TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT), Walter Cowan, age fifty-eight, height 5 ft. 11 in., farmer, native o? INew Zealand, medium build, florid complexion, grey hair going bald ; usually dressed in a grey suit and felt hat; plausible manner. In his capacity as Postmaster at Glenfield he received £2 7s. in registration levies, and failed to account for that amount to the Post and Telegraph Department. He may be accompanied by Bernard Edkins. alias Harkins, age about twenty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., darKcomplexion and hair ; dressed in a grey suit. He was employed by Cowan and he is also to be located. The file is to be obtained from the Superintendent of Police, Auckland, before they are interviewed. No warrant.

Hawera. 2Bth ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Kathleen Margaret Better, and child, 7 Somme Parade, Wanganui, John Stickle Retter, age thirty, height 6 ft., butter-maker and engineer, native of New Zealand, slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, straight nose ; usually dressed in dark clothes and hat ; fond of reading, and may frequent lending libraries; quiet manner. Arrears to 9th instant, £l2.

Eketahuna. 26th March last, that three summonses may be served on him for(1) driving a motor-car without due care and attention, (2) failing to stop after accident, and (3) refusing to give his name and address when an accident arising from the use of his motor-car occurred, Charles Hogg, age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 3 in., camp cook, slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair, small face, sharp features. He uses an old tourer motor-car, registration No. 106,615, and he is accompanied by his wife and a child about one and a half years old.

Wellington. 29th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £222 arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Joseph Stevenson Skinner, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 675. He is usually well dressed, probably in a light-blue suit and grey overcoat (no hat); wears thick glasses, and never looks any one straight in the face.
