Auckland. 26th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Eleanor Winifred Rumsam, 1 Alfred Street, Frederick Bond Rumsam, age forty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., salesman, native of England, medium build, pale complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, tattoo-mark on right forearm ; walks with his right foot turned outwards and his left foot straight; usually dressed in a brown suit. Auckland. —3oth July last, for theft of a dressing-gown and a rug (recovered); a gentlemen’s fawn Roslyn overcoat; and 2 lb. bacon : total value, £2 55., the property of Percival Palmer Sly, Rosebank Road, Avondale, T. Rogers (name probably fictitious), age about fifty-eight, height 6 ft., labourer, thin build, tanned complexion, hair nearly white, lightcoloured eyes; dressed in a dark-grey suit and felt hat. The property was stolen from a motor-car in Fergusson Street, and the recovered articles had been sold to a secondhand dealer by a man of the above description. No warrant. ARRESTED. Auckland. —26th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Edith Caldcrwood, 84a Grafton Road, William Jackson Calderwood, age forty-eight, height 5 ft. 5 in., motordriver, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair going bald, grey eyes, two moles on right cheek, scar on bridge of nose; usually dressed in a blue suit and black shoes. July last, for assaulting Frederick Robert Brown, taxi-driver, 50 Calgary Street, Mount Eden, Two Men (names unknown) — Age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., good build, dark complexion, broad nose, protruding lower lip, lower part of face sunken, and he appeared to have no lower teeth; dressed in a dark suit, light felt hat, and light-coloured raincoat. (2) Age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build ; dressed in a dark suit and felt hat. They engaged complainant to drive them to Fanshaw Street, where the first-described man got out of the car and punched complainant on the chin, after which they ran away. No warrant.
Rotorua. —22nd May last, for false pretences(l) John Blair, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 290, and Photographs, page 36. (2) Thornleigh Wilfred Franks, referred to in Police page 567, and Photographs, page 23. The accused, Blair, obtained £l9 10s. from Lewis Miller, manager, Rotorua Bargain Stores, Fenton Street, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, Auckland, in favour of J. Blair, and signed “ Thornleigh W. Franks and J. D. Blair.” These men opened a joint account at the Bank of New South Wales, Auckland, in December, 1936, and on the 18th March last their account showed a credit of 7s. lid., and on the 3rd June a credit of sd. There are other similar charges pending at Rotorua, where Franks is believed to have been with Blair when the offences were committed. They may be in Australia. If located they are to be interviewed regarding the above-mentioned offences. Te Kuiti. — instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Hapa Bell, and five children, Errol Street, Tiwha Ruru Bell, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, good build, copper complexion, dark hair, brown eyes; usually dressed in a grey flannel suit and cap ; a half-caste Maori. He may be accompanied by a European girl named Schou (age twenty-two), who may seek employment as a waitress or kitchen hand.
Natter.— lst instant, that he may be located and a Child Welfare Officer notified of his whereabouts, Winston Douglas Rodgers, age fifteen, labourer, native of New Zealand, ruddy complexion, fair hair, blue eyes. He was in the care of a Child Welfare Officer, and was licensed out to Mr. Meikle, farmer, Mangateretere. On the 26th May last he was placed on a service-car with a view to his return to the Child Welfare Officer, Napier, but he did not report to that Officer, ■ Located. i/z/M
Palmerston North. —2nd instant, that a summons may be served upon him for trespass on Marton Racecourse on the 24th July last, John Wilson, age fifty-seven, height 5 ft. 8£ in., labourer, native of Ireland, strong build, fresh complexion, grey hair, blue eyes, heart and crossed swords on right arm ; flowers on left arm ; broken sword on left upper arm. Christchurch. l2th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for one month in default of paying £l2 11s. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Ivy Lillian Mullins, Alfred William Mullins, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 4£ in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, cast in right eye; dressed in a grey suit, grey overcoat, felt hat, and tan shoes. Christchurch. 23rd ultimo, on warrant for being a person against whom an affiliation order has been made in respect of his unborn illegitimate child attempted to leave New Zealand without the permission in ■writing of a Magistrate, Reginald Charles Southen, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 10 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, black straight hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a navy-blue or grey suit and brown felt hat. The affiliation order was made on the 20th -ultimo, and on that date he left by aeroplane for Wellington en route to Australia. Christchurch. —14th June last, for false pretences, Alfred Sydney Buckley, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 750, and Photographs, 1925, page 32. He is usually dressed in a navy-blue suit, and often does not wear a hat. Edith Barr, domestic, 38 Osborne Terrace, New Brighton, was keeping company with Buckley, and on the 14th June last he obtained £lO from her by falsely representing that he had secured a position as bus-driver between Ashburton and Methven, and that he required the money as a “ bond.” No warrant. Dunedin. —27th ultimo, for a breach of his probation, Leslie Jack Gould, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 649, and Photographs, page 68. He frequents billiard-rooms, and associates with undesirables ; is usually dressed in a blue serge shabby suit and black shoes (no hat), and his occupation is said to be bootmaker or waiter. He has failed to report to a Probation Officer, and his arrest is desired. An information charging him with a breach of the Offenders Probation Act, 1920, was laid oiuthe 2nd instant.
