PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. —On the 6th March last, the dwelling of WILLIAM JAMES BANKS, 3 Margaret Street, Ponsonby, was broken into and the following stolen : A gentlemen’s rolled-gold watch (recovered); a black cloth watch fob ; a small wall clock, 6 in. by 2£ in., dark wooden case which appears to have been hand-carved with a water-mill scene on it, white numerals, white and red hands ; a child’s manicure set of grey ebonite; a child’s pale-blue hair-brush, mirror, and comb ; a pale-blue tray ; a toilet set with green hairpin work with flower in centre; a box of soap ; and a bottle of scent: total value, £9 13s. 6d. Identifiable. The watch was recovered in a pawnshop where it had been pledged by a man who gave his name and occupation as “ Frank Jackson, labourer.”

Auckland. — 12th February last, the property of DWARD SMYTH, Spring Hill, Waitakere, 11 cwt. 481 b. of scrap cast metal; value, £2 11s. 6d. Not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to—(1) J. Jackson (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, medium build, dark complexion and hair; dressed in a dirty sports coat, denim trousers, and an old dark felt hat; and (2) Bob (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair; dressed in an old navy-blue serge coat and dungaree trousers (no hat). The suspects, without authority, engaged two men, who have been interviewed, to break up an old portable engine of complainants, which was in a section near the Waitakere Railway-station. Jackson sold the above-described metal to Fraser and Son’s foundry, Stanley Street, on the 12th February last. Before the engine was damaged it was valued at £SO.

Auckland. On the 19th or 20th February last, the property of ARTHUR WILLOUGHBY BEESON, care of Dominion Brace Co., Newmarket, a dark-brown leather wallet, 8 in. by 4 in., dome fastener, containing about £27 in notes ; a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold band ring, the join of which is visible ; a gentlemen’s Canadian gold ring, claw-set with a diamond which is about the size of a small pea and has a flaw in it: total value, £7O 2s. 6d. Identifiable.

Auckland. —23rd March last, from Johnston’s dentist rooms, Lister Buildings, Victoria Street, the property of SYDNEY JOAN LAWSON, nurse, a purse (recovered); an 18 ct. white gold small engagement ring with two diamonds, set in square at top with two smaller diamonds at each side, “ 12/10/35 ”on inside; an 18 ct. white gold small wedding ring, chased around outside; . a gold-coloured octagon-shaped compact, about 2 in. in diameter, containing small mirror, powder, &c. ; and ss. in money : total value, £2l 3s. 6d. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to Woman (name unknown), age about forty-five, height about 5 ft. 2 in., stout build, fresh complexion, fair hair turning grey, round fat face; dressed in a blue or black dress and small straw hat to match. She was seen behaving suspiciously near a lavatory in the H.B. buildings from where the purse was recovered.

Auckland. — On the 19th ultimo, the dwelling of JAMES JOSEPH COWAN, 40 Hollywood Avenue, Epsom, was broken into and the following stolen : A pair of ladies’ Court shoes of snakeskin, dyed black ; a pair of ladies’ navyblue suede Court shoes with navy-blue and white bow ; a pair of ladies’ Court shoes with white bow ; a pair of ladies’ brown suede shoes ; a pair of ladies’ black patent leather shoes ; and a pair of brown imitation crocodile skin shoes (all size 4) : total value, £5. Identifiable.

Auckland.— March last, from a golf-bag in the hockey grounds at Remuera, the property of MARY ALISON, 19 Rangitoto Avenue, a ladies’ old gold oval wristlet-watch, about size of shilling piece, Arabic numerals, plain gold bracelet soldered about 1 in. from watch ; and 10s. in money : total value, £8 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man, age about twenty, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, pale complexion, brown hair; dressed in white tennis trousers, bright blue striped blazer (no hat). He was seen near the golf-bag during complainant’s absence.

Auckland. During the night of 19th March last, the dwelling of WILLIAM JAMES SHAW was broken into and the following stolen: A dark-brown serge suit with brown and thin red stripes, fit man 5 ft. 9 in., brown satin lining on coat, outside breast pocket, sleeves lined with striped material, “Farmers’ Trading Co.” on tag of coat; value, £7 10s. Thames. On the iMH or 13th JanuarjrTast, from the Brian Boru Hotel, the property of JAMES TWOHILL, licensee, two E.P.N.S. half-pint tankards, “ Brian Boru Hotel, Thames, October 28th, 1931 scratched on them: total value, £1 13s. Identifiable.

Stratford. —Between the 16th and 19th ultimo, from a motor-car in the Tangarakau Gorge, the property of WILLIAM JOHN POLSON, Brecon Road, a circular motor-car clock, about 3| in. in diameter, “4 Jours” and “ Fabrique De Swisso ” on it; value, £3. Identifiable. It is probably the only clock of its kind in the Dominion.

Feilding. —27th January last, the property of AMY FLORENCE PRYDE, Awahuri Road, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold Ralco wristlet-watch, No. -784, five and a quarter LigneTonneau shape, gold raised numerals, silk cord wrist-band attached ; value, £lO. Identifiable. Complainant lost the watch between her home and Feilding Post-office.

Wellington. —On the 22nd March last, the dwelling of BEATRICE CASEY, 63 Waipapa Road, Hataitai, was broken into and the following stolen : A gold (may be 18 ct.) diamond engagement ring, set with three rows consisting of three diamonds each in square gold claw setting; a packet of twenty Capstan cigarettes; and 3s. 2d. in money : total value, £l7 4s. 2d. Ring only identifiable.

Wellington. —l4th ultimo, from the shop of LEO VINCENT MARTIN, 228 Lambton Quay, a five-valve table model Radiolette wireless set, model 27 m., serial No. C. 1363546, when operating the letters “ A.W.A.” appear in red on dial; value, £ll. Identifiable.

Wellington.— EDITH RADFORD, handbag, &c., stolen (see Police Gazette, 1937, page 280): The moneyorder telegram was found on Boulcott Street steps on the 2nd instant.

Nelson. — 17th ultimo, from Bert Thomason’s motor-car in Victoria Street, the property of JOHN LUMSDEN LIDDLE, Brook Street, a silver stop-watch, set in steel case about 2| in. square “ J. 11. King ” on dial in two places, “ J.L.L.” scratched on back of case ; value, £3. Identifiable.

Greymouth. About the 25th December, 1936, from a bach in Richmond Quay, the property of DUSAN RUDOLF MILLAR, a -22 calibre Winchester repeating rifle, No. 580187 ; a -303 Lee Enfield rifle, No. 313/05, barrel Nos. 32685 and 5499/D.; a two-cell black metal Winchester torch; a Record breast drill; a Big Ben alarm clock with luminous dial; a cartridge belt for shot-gun ; and a leather collar-: total value, £lO 11s. 6d. Rifles and belt only identifiable.

Addington. —Between the 21st and 24th March last, from the garage of PETER WOOD SIM, 314 Lincoln Road, a •22 calibre Browning automatic rifle, No. 80276; value, £4 10s. Identifiable.

Dunedin.— Between the Ist February and 30th June, 1936, from the Medical School, King Street, the property of the DUNEDIN NATURALISTS’ FIELD CLUB, a microscope, Ross, London, make, nearly all brass, flat horse-shoe shaped foot, mechanical stage, two eye-pieces, revolving nose piece, coarse and fine adjustments, contained in a red wooden cabinet with leather handle; value, £25. Identifiable.

Gore. About the 15th February last, from a paddock on the farm of DAVID WILLIAM GRAHAM, Waikaka, nine Southdown stud lambs (lour rams and five ewes), born August, 1936, rams have piece out of front and back of right ear, ewes have two similar pieces out of left ear, all were branded “75 ” on right shoulder, but it may not now be visible: total value, £lB.
