Whang —l3th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for three months in default of paying £7 2s. 6d. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Jessie Butene is the mother, Charles Wells, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 8J in., truckdriver, native of New Zealand, strong build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, flat- nose, good teeth, scar above right eye and on right middle finger ; a half-caste Maori. Auckland. —7th January last, on warrant for theft of a motor-car (recovered), value, £2OO, the property of John Marshall Stewart, Tahuna, near Morrinsville, George Edward William Cox, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7f in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes, scar over right eye, some lower front teeth missing; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit of herringbone pattern, and blue felt hat ; untidy appearance ; quick gait ; speaks unintelligently, and when conversing he moves his tongue to right corner of mouth. On the 4th ultimo he was interviewed by the police, and admitted stealing the motorcar, but while his house was being searched he disappeared. Auckland. —Bth February last, for false pretences, R. H. Shrimpton, age about forty, height about 6 ft., native of New Zealand, stout build, dark hair and complexion ; well dressed in a navy-blue suit and grey felt hat. Accused obtained £4 from William Ellerington, licensee, Prince Arthur Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for £5 ss. 6d. on the Bank of New f -Zealand, Wairoa, No. 461870, signed “ R. H. Shrimpton,” which* lie tendered in advance for payment of £1 ss. 6d. for board. He left immediately after the cheque was cashed. He had an account at the bank mentioned, but had not been informed of the state of his account, and he had not sufficient funds to meet the cheque. When located he is to be interviewed. He may be identical with Ronald Honi Shrimpton, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 227.

Auckland. — Samuel Lampard, false pretences (see Police Gazette, 1937, page 209), was in Adelaide, South Australia, on the 16th ultimo.

Auckland. —On the 22nd or 23rd January last, on warrant for theft of a ukulele (recovered), value, £2, the property of Henry Burns Urwin, 54 Norfolk Street, Ponsonby, Frederick Herbert Jack Bilham, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., carpenter, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, greenish-grey eyes ; usually dressed in a light-grey suit and grey felt hat. The ukulele was stolen from complainant’s motor-car in Albert Street, and was subsequently recovered from a second-hand dealer to whom it had been sold for 15s. (See Police Gazette, 1936, page 600.)

Onehunga.— l6th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Edna Ruth Dawson, and children, Church Street, Neil Dawson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 193. Inglewood.— Samuel Lampard, alias John Blackmore, false pretences (see Police Gazette, 1937, page 197), was in Adelaide, South Australia, on the 16th ultimo. Complainant has declined to pay extradition expenses.

Feilding. 2lst instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, of whom Marjorie Lillian De’Ath, domestic, Tutaenui Road, Marton, is the mother, George Hill, age about forty-seven, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, thin build, fresh complexion, fair hair going bald, blue eyes, no upper teeth, lower teeth decayed ; usually dressed in a grey suit. He may endeavour to leave this Dominion.

Carterton. — 11th instant, on warrant for false pretences, Randall James Ferguson, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and station hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, fair. hair, blue eyes, good teeth; dressed in a brownish-grey suit and felt hat. Accused obtained a Redwing Panther motor-cycle, value, £IOO, from Collingwood Kemp Goodin, motor-cycle dealer, High Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £4O on the Bank of Australasia, Masterton. Wellington.— On the 25th January last, a warrant was issued authorizing a Child Welfare Officer to take possession of Margaret Lilian Hansen, alias Peggy Hansen, who is deemed to is. be not under proper control. She may be found in the company of Lewis Edward Rohioff, referred to in Police Gazette. 1934. «$* page 242,and Photographs, 1929, page 67. Her description is* as follows : Age sixteen years and a half, height 5 ft. 6 in., O domestic, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark com- S plexion and hair, brown eyes; dressed in a grey costume, ' grey summer overcoat, white beret, or brown felt hat, grey stockings, and white shoes; rather attractive appearance. She is also suspected of stealing a ladies’ hand-bag (recovered), and £1 12s. in money from a studio'in Boulcott Chambers, the property of Dorothy Browning. The hand-bag was subsequently recovered in a lavatory in a neighbouring building, but the money had been removed from it. At the time the offence was committed, a girl believed to be Hansen was seen standing at the door of complainant’s studio and was later seen going in the direction of the building where the hand-bag was recovered.

Blenheim. 3lst December last, that he may be interviewed regarding a bound cookery book containing recipes; and two calico aprons with tape-fasteners, value, 12s. Gd., the property of Victor Camden Constant, hotelkeeper, Ernest Neilson Bassett, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 602. He had the use of the above-mentioned property while temporarily employed by complainant, and after he left on 31st December last the book and aprons were missing from the hotel. A _ U 1

Culverden. —Ist instant, that he may be interviewed regarding a -22 calibre revolver which was taken from him by his employer, Frederick Stanley Gordon, Horace Stanley Cant, age eighteen, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, pale complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, no upper teeth, sharp features ; usually dressed in grey trousers and brown coat (no hat). The revolver which was originally a -32 calibre, but by insertion of a tube had been converted into a -22 calibre, is now in possession of the Culverden police. It had not been registered.

Christchurch. —26th January last, on warrant for false pretences, Thomas Wilson Fox, alias Thomas William Fox, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 8£ in., salesman, native of Scotland, strong build, fresh complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, long nose, scar on left cheek, over left eye, on right palm, and on right forearm. He obtained £2 12s. 6d. in money from Douglas Cox, Optician, 200 High Street, by falsely representing that he was going to have folders printed and distributed to hotels in Christchurch, that he had approached Bascands Ltd., printers, to print the folders, and that he would insert complainant’s advertisement in them. The photograph of Thomas Wilson Fox, referred to in Police Gazette, 1934, page 545, and Photographs, 1932, page 41, has been identified as that of the offender.
