Kaikoiie. —Bth September last, on warrant for false pretences, Gerald Trevor Mortain-Green, age twentyheight 5 ft. 8 in., journalist, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, scar on forehead and on left calf ; impediment in speech ; usually well dressed ; smokes a pipe. Accused obtained a cheque for £lO, which was cashed at Auckland on the 10th September, 1936, from James Kendall, storekeeper, Kerikeri, by means of a valueless cheque for £l3 55., No. A. 022072, on the Bank of New South Wales, Kaikohe, which was tendered as payment of £3 ss. owing by him to complainant. Whangarei. —l9th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Pearl Evelyn McGill, 5 Crescent Road, Birkenhead, Herbert McGill, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., butcher, slight build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue or grey eyes ; smartly dressed in blue or grey clothes. Auckland. 3rd February last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £4 15s. fine and costs for being found in a gaming-house, Ah Foung, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 3 in., gardener, native of China, medium build, sallow complexion, black hair going bald, brown eyes, burn-mark under left eye. Auckland. —25th September last, that he may be interviewed regarding alleged theft of a Stewart Warner radio-set, serial No. 18019 (recovered), value £23 195., the property of Gordon Albert John Brunette, 11 Laery Street, Lower Hutt, George Henry Moore, alias Harry Moore, age about forty, y height 5 ft. 6 in., furniture dealer and hawker, native of England, slight build, fresh complexion, fair hair, broken A nose, gunshot wound on left foot; walks with a limp. On • / the 24th January, 1935, Alice Elizabeth Moore, wife of accused, referred to in Police Gazette, 1934, pages 379 and 455, obtained a radio-set from complainant under hire-pur- "- : - chase agreement. She paid £4 deposit, and agreed to pay monthly instalments of £1 13s. 3d. No instalments were paid, and on the 25th September, 1936, her husband sold the set to William Callan Sharp, 22 Finch Street, Auckland, for £5. Accused is in receipt of economic and soldier’s pensions. They tour the North and South Islands in a motor-car selling polish, , soap, &c. (Sec Police Gazette, 1933, page 56.) , Z9/P/6Z .

Auckland.9th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his three children, James Joseph Drinnan, age fifty-four, height 6 ft. 1£ in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, scar on left thumb. Auckland. Between the Bth and 9th January last, for theft of a gold engagement ring (recovered), value £l2, the property of Mary Winifred Berry, Wellesley House, Wellesley Street, George Gilbraith (name probably fictitious) age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., carpenter, slight build, fair complexion and hair; dressed in a brown suit and grey felt hat; smart appearance. The ring was stolen from complainant’s room and pawned for £2. No warrant.

Auckland. —21st October last, for false pretences, A. C. Cameron, age about forty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., good build, dark complexion and hair; well dressed in a dark suit (believed brown), felt hat, colla’r, and tie ; plausible ; appearance of a farmer. Accused obtained £ls 2s. 6d. from the Farmers’ Trading Co., Hobson Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £2O drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., Auckland, No. L.D. 79200, payable to “ Cash,” and signed A. C. Cameron.” Accused called at the Farmers’ Trading Co. and stated that he was A. Cameron from the State Forest Department, Kaingaroa, Rotorua, and that he had previously bought a watch on time-payment system by mail, and that he desired to pay £4 17s. 6d. balance owing on the watch. He tendered the valueless cheque for £2O, and received £ls 2s. 6d. change. He is believed to be identical with Alexander Cameron, alias William Theodore Thompson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 448, ahnl Photographs, page 11. No warrant. QjQ 11 / Ct *- ~7

He is identical with man of same name referred to in Police 1934, page 325.

Auckland.llth February last, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Rita Nellie Manser, 4 Albert Street, Devonport, William James George Manser, age twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 9 in., salesman, native of England, medium build, dark hair, brown eyes, scar on nose; frequents dancehalls ; neatly dressed in a blue or grey suit.

Auckland. — 15th February last, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Edna Lillian Baker, Redhill Road, Henderson, and child, Stephen David Baker, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of England, slight build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes; neatly dressed. He left Auckland for Australia in May, 1934.

Auckland. — the 6th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a diamond ring (recovered), value £2 10s., the property of Ethel Rose Petrie, Warkworth, Ray Edlin, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, long nose, scar over left eye; wearing dark clothes and leather overcoat. Accused sold the ring as old gold. He is believed to be identical with Horace Raymond Edlin, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 94, and Photographs, 1935, page 64. ' - Hamilton. — 13th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Perciva! Richard Williams, alias Ben Lee, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 7 in., french-polisher, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion and hair, blue eyes; left fore, middle, and ring fingers missing; dressed in a brown suit and soft felt hat; well spoken and plausible. Accused obtained £1 from Robert Dunipace, branch manager, Farmers’ Trading Co., by falsely representing that he was an employee in the furniture factory of the Farmers’ Trading Co., Auckland, and that his wages were being forwarded to the Hamilton branch of the Farmers’ Trading Co. Cambridge. — Royal Desmond Capner, alias Capley, alias Roy Clarke, suspected of theft (see Police Gazette, 1937, page 81) : A warrant for his arrest on the following charge was issued on 2nd instant, “ On or about sth December, 1936, at Te Miro, did steal two bales of wool, valued at £ls, the property of Jessie Muriel Muirhead.” Capner was seen recently in Brisbane (Australia.)

Whakatane. — Roy Bridger, failing to maintain (see Police Gazette, 1937, page 3): It has now been ascertained that he is in Sydney (Australia). . / , i ) 3 o/z/U.

Wellington.2nd December last, on warrant for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probationary license, Rangi 'Martin, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 81 in., labourer, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, scar on right leg, on left side of throat, and over left eye ; a Maori. He has failed to report to a Probation Officer, and when arrested he is to be charged under Section 15 of the Crimes Amendment Act, 1910. Westport. 2oth ultimo, for theft of £ls, the property of Cyril Gibbons, North Beach(l) Man (name unknown), age about forty, height 5 ft. 6 in., thick set build, grey eyes, full face; wearing light-brown suit and light-coloured felt hat. (2) Man (name unknown), age about thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., dark complexion, very dark wavy hair, and very dark eyes, low squeaky voice, thin features ; wearing dark-blue suit with white stripe, light-coloured felt hat with dark band, white collar, and dark tie. Complainant was attending the Westport Races and was approached by ’the two men described above, one of whom was alleged by the other to be a brother of Ellis the jockey, and could give him some tips about the horses. Prior to the seventh race one of these men approached complainant and inquired how much money he had; complainant produced £ls, and handed it over to this man, who said he would put it on a horse for him, but disappeared. On the 23rd ultimo at the same race-meeting one of these men obtained £lO from George William Hall, Brightwater, Nelson, . by a similar method. No warrant. 'p jj/ // Z V

Arthur Willis Blackwell, alias George Blackwell, false pretences, &c. : It has been ascertained that the offender assumed the name Arthur Black, i who, for several months prior to December, 1936, was employed as a ploughman and general farm worker by the Finance Corporation, Reporoa, near Taupo. On leaving his employment he stated that he intended returning to Australia. (See Police Gazette, 1921, page 369, and 1935, page 404.)

Dunedin.— Robert Campbell, false pretences, George Gordon, forgery and uttering, and A. McDonald, forgery and uttering: It has now been ascertained that the offenders are believed to be identical with Alexander Cameron, alias William Theodore Thompson, referred to in “ Persons Wanted” this issue, and Photographs, 1937, page 11.
