Whangabei. June last, on warrant for obtaining £BO from Reginald Stuart O’Neill, carrier, Towai, by false pretences, W. Jackson, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, sandy complexion and hair; dressed in a brown tweed suit and brown hat; good appearance. Accused, in company with C. Daniels, referred to in following paragraph, obtained £BO from complainant by falsely representing that they had to pay Customs duty on motor-tires, value, £240, which were at Auckland. They left with complainant five rugs which they falsely represented to be genuine Persian rugs, value, £IOO, but they have proved to be imitations worth about £2O. The photograph of Thomas Young in Supplement to New Zealand Police Gazette, 1934, page 10, has been identified by complainant as that of accused Jackson. On the 26th June, in response to a telephone message from accused at Auckland, the complainant forwarded a further £l6 to Daniels by money-order telegram. A warrant has not been issued in regard to the latter amount. He left for Australia on the 7th ultimo.

Accused obtained £BO from complainant by the false representation as set forth in the preceding paragraph respecting W. Jackson. He left for Australia on the 7th ultimo.

Auckland. l2th instant, that he may be located and interviewed regarding his travelling from Rotorua to Auckland on the 22nd February last without having paid his railway fare, Charles Leo Hogan, age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., seaman, slight build, fair complexion and hair ; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit; fond of drink. His coupon-book is No. 519790/3.

Law, age about forty-five, height about 6 ft., thin build, dark sallow complexion, prominent nose ; dressed in a brown suit and light felt hat. Accused obtained a service-car ticket, Auckland, value, £3 35., and £3 6s. 6d. cash, from the Hawke’s Bay Motor Co. by means of a valueless cheque for £6 10s. on the Bank of Australasia, Wairoa, drawn in favour of E. Law and signed H. Bay ley. The photograph of Alfred Hinton, alias John Liston Hanton, alias Charles Green, referred to in Police Gazette, 1934, page 661, and Photographs, 1922, page 79, has been identified as that of accused. The cheque was from the cheque-book of Alfred George Joslin, 56 Summer Street, Ponsonby, Auckland, with whom Hinton stayed, until about the 15th ultimo, when he left for Napier. Joslin ascertained on the 27th ultimo that his cheque-book had been stolen. It was on the Bank of Australasia, Wairoa, No. A. 185191-A. 185220, and contained a number of blank forms.
