Putaruru. —Between the Bth and 14th ultimo, from a porch in the dwelling of FRANK GREAVES SHAW, Piarere, Tirau, a -22 calibre single-shot Millior rifle, No. 10161; value, £1 10s. Identifiable. £1 10s. Identifiable. /^/*/

Inglewood. —During the night of sth February last, from a railway-carriage at Waitara, the property of JOHN NOBLE STEPHENS, care of Wirths Circus, a black well-worn imitation leather No. 2 Brownie camera; value, £2. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to — Thomas Wera Ashwell, who has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted ; and (2) Tommy Miller, age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, thin build, fair hair and complexion, pimples on face (does not wear a hat). He may be identical with Cyril Thomas Miller, referred to in Police Gazette, 1927, ■page 91, and Photographs, 1924, page 62. The suspects were employed with complainant at Wirths Circus, and they disappeared about the time the offence was committed.

Hastings. —7th May last, from a dressing-shed in Nelson Park, the property of ERIC IRVINE SHUKER, 804 East Avenue Road, a gentlemen’s silver 15-jewel Roamer wristletwatch, No. 1396517, second-hand missing, black Arabic numerals except “12 ” which is red, chromium-plated wrist-band attached ; value, £2 ss. During the night of the 30th ultimo, the shop of SELF-HELP, LTD., 13 High Street, Lower Hutt, was broken into and the following stolen : Thirteen bottles of assorted coffee of various brands ; three bottles of Baxter’s lung preserver; a bottle of Clement’s tonic ; a bottle of Enos fruit salts ; two bottles of Califig ; five bottles of Lane’s emulsion ; nine tins of Ovaltine ; 12 lb. of chocolate wheaten wafer biscuits; a large biscuit tin 14 lb. Thrift butter and a large quantity of tobacco and cigarettes of various brands : total value, about £l2. Not identifiable.

Christchurch. During the night of 24th March last, the dwelling of MARY COPLAND BATES, 25 Idris Road, Fendalton, was broken into and the following stolen: A small silver-plated jewel-case, about 5 in. wide a ladies’ gold ring, set with cluster of sapphires and diamonds ; a gold brooch with Cairngorm stone in centre of it, small fine gold chain attached ; a small brooch with gold filigree around edge, brown stone with white stripe in centre; a ladies’ gold wristlet-watch, gold dial, “ M.C.8.” on back, “ 13/6/17 ” on inside of case; a small crystal pendant in shape of ball; and an ivory pendant: total value, £23 10s. Oamabu. Between the 27th and 29th ultimo, the shop of JOHN CROWLEY, Thames Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A gentlemen’s light-grey tweed doublebreasted Proof Tex overcoat, size 4 or 5, vent in back, two side pockets with flaps, fit man with 36 in. chest; a gentlemen’s brown tweed double-breasted Sure Fit overcoat, two side pockets with flaps; two Pick brand sleeveless pullovers, one brown, the other grey ; a dark-brown Autocrat shirt, Standard make, Fasula tag on back; two square white silk scarves ; two woollen scarves, check colour ; a brown slip-on; and some ties; socks ; and sleeve-links f total value, about £lO 2s. Dunedin. Between the 16th and 18th May last, the tanneries of PARKER AND LAWSON, LTD.. Norwood Street, North-east Valley, were broken into and the following stolen : Nine bends of unrolled leather suitable for repairing boots ; two black fountain-pens (one has bent nib); 4s. in small silver and coppers ; and twelve twopenny stamps : total value, £l3 Bs. Dunedin. On the 18th May last, the dwelling of LEWIS HENRY DEAR, 14 Alfred Street, Musselburgh, was broken into and the following stolen : A ladies’ 18 ct. gold ring with three diamonds set in platinum in claw setting ; a Haddon razor ; a Solingor t razor ; two Bengal razors ; a two-cell Nan Jan torch ; a five or six pint can; a seagrass open basket with handle; and a quantity of tinned food : total value, £lO 17,. Invercargill. — the 25th or 26th May last, from a railway-truck between Bluff and Invercargill, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Railways Department), a six-valve all-wave Ultimate radio-set, mantel model, serial No. 26046, license No. B. 13609; value, £27 10s. Identifiable. Eleven cartons of radio- were unloaded from s.s. “ Waimarino ” at Bluff and placed on a railwaytruck, but when they arrived at their destination the above set was missing.
