Hamilton. —13th April last, for false pretences, M. Stilwell (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair ; dressed in a brown suit (no hat). Accused obtained £2 15s. 6d. from Frances O’Hara, shopkeeper, 17 London Street, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, Frankton unction. He purchased the blank cheque form from Allan Malcolm Halcrow, 64 Commerce Street, Frankton Junction. When located he is to be interviewed regarding the offence. No warrant.

Palmerston North. 2sth ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his child, Frederick Samuel Handley, referred to In Police Gazette, 1935, page 478, and Photographs, 1926, page 65. He may be dressed in a grey suit, light felt hat, light gabardine raincoat, and black boots, , jZAne^^/f/^/36.

Palmerston North. —llth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for one month in default of paying £8 11s. 6d, fine and costs for making a false statement under the Unemployment Act, Hors George, age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 8 in., sawmill hand and musician, a Maori, strong build, copper complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, flat nose. %2/ 7f3 6_

Wellington.— Walter Harold Porter, escaping from mental hospital, has written to his wife from Riverton, South Australia. His correct name is Walter Unwin. (See Police Gazette, 1936, page 242.)

Wellington. —27th ultimo, for forgery and uttering, Frederick Browning (name may be fictitious), age about thirty-four, height about 5 ft. 9 in., strong build, ruddy tanned complexion, wavy dark hair, square face; wearing a brown overcoat with grey tinge and brownish scarf (no hat). On the 26th ultimo, a man giving the name and address, Frederick Browning, Hotel St. George, Wellington, opened an account at the Lank of New Zealand, depositing £lO. He was issued with a cheque-book, No. K. 247081 to K. 247104. At about 3 p.m. next day he again called at the bank and made inquiries as to how money could be remitted from Sydney. He then presented to the ledger-keeper a cheque, No. K. 247089 for £9 drawn in favour of Thomas Green and signed Frederick Browning. The cheque being in order was initialled as correct by the ledger-keeper, who handed it back to Browning for presentment to the teller. After altering it to £9O he presented it to the teller who gave him £9O in notes, made up of twelve £5 notes and thirty £1 notes. The offence was discovered shortly afterwards, and inquiries made at the Hotel St. George revealed that Browning was not known there. The photograph of Trevor Jack Cunningham, referred to in Police Gazette, 1935, page 400, and Photographs, 1923, page 80, has been identified as being very like that of the offender. It is believed that Cunningham was in Wellington on the day of the offence, and on that evening a man answering his description travelled from Wellington to Masterton by service car, reaching Masterton at 8.30 p.m. That night a man of the same description stayed at the Marquis of Normanby Hotel, Carterton, and when paying for his hoard he was in possession of a roll of bank-notes. The service-car driver and the Marquis of Normanby Hotel staff have identified Cunningham’S photograph as that of the person who travelled by the service car, and who later stayed at the I hotel mentioned. Urgent inquiries are to be made for Cunningham, and any information as to his whereabouts is to be immediately communicated to the Superintendent of Police, Wellington, No warrant.

Christchurch. (l) Charles Henry Spencer, mechanic, who, on the 18th May, 1921, registered a -22 calibre Winchester single-shot rifle. (2) Angus Gunn, labourer, who, on the 12th June, 1926, registered a -22 calibre B.S.A. repeating rifle. (3) John Kennedy, labourer, who, on the 21st February, 1924, registered a -22 calibre Winchester single-shot rifle. (4) Thomas Robinson, electrician, who, on the 6th March, 1922, registered a -22 calibre Remington single-shot rifle.
