He has been employed as a ship’s steward.

Auckland. —21st instant, that he may be located and the Superintendent of Police, Auckland, notified, Oswald Stephens, alias Jack Stephens, age twenty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., shop-assistant, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair ; boyish appearance ; well dressed, but does not wear a hat ; good address. Between the 30th August, 1935, and the 25th February last, whilst in the employ of L. D. Nathan and Co., Auckland, he is suspected of having on twenty occasions stolen tea from his employers and having sold it to Robert Caulton, restaurateur, Customs Street East. He is also suspected of stealing cigarettes and other goods. When located an urgent communication is to be sent to the Superintendent of Police, Auckland, who will forward the file before the suspect is interviewed. His photograph is filed.

On the 9th January last he obtained 4s. from Gladys Ainsley, confectioner, 83 Guyton Street, by representing that he was travelling for Wellington Slot Machines, Ltd., and that a machine would be installed on the 15th of that month. The machine was not installed, and inquiries have revealed that Powell was employed by the above-mentioned firm selling slot machines on a commission basis, but he has failed to account for moneys received by him since the beginning of November, 1935.
