Churchward (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 10 im/stc©ng Jiuild, fair fresh complexion dressed in a grey suit. "TAc/psed obtained £3 12s. lOd. cash and two second,clafS railway tickets (WhangareiWellington), and 534826', ylim-£2 Bs. 4d. each, and two tickets reserving two , second-class _ seats on the Limited express f to Wellington on 18th ultimo, value Is. each, fronp/Kfcnnetri /Haslett; 40 Cameron Street, who has a railway booking-agency, by means of a valueless cheque for £8 125., drawn on the account of Suckling Bros., Ltd., Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch. The cheque is one of those stolen from Wilfred Henry Woodham (vide Police Gazette, 1935, page 417). He may be identical with D. J. Rossiter and william Green, referred to in Police Gazette, 1935, pages 416 and 417 respectively.

Auckland. 22nd May last, for theft of a gentlemen’s bicycle (recovered), value £3 155.,- the property of Edward Worthington, 3 Cameron Street, Herne Bay, G. S. Scott (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 5 in., medium build ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and dark-grey pullover. The bicycle was stolen from Prince’s Wharf and sold the same day to a dealer. No warrant.

Ohura. 4th March last, on warrant for false pretences, Alan E. Hayes, alia? Alan Dale, alias Craves, referred to in Police Gazette, 1935, pages 151, 179, 260, and 333 : Accused obtained £2 from George Robinson, motor engineer, by means of a valueless cheque signed “E. G. Morris.” The cheque was one of twenty stolen from Frederick Charles Coombe (vide Police Gazette, 1935, page 151). He may be identical with Alan Edward Taylor, referred to in Photographs, 1932, page 65.

Wellington. 2sth ultimo, for theft of £l, the property of Mrs. Jean Potts, cake-shop proprietor, Elizabeth Street, Man (name unknown), age about thirty-three, height about 5 ft. 11 in., medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair ; smartly dressed in a brown or fawn suit, grey or fawn overcoat, greyishfawn felt hat, mixeJfcploUr woven silk scarf with blue or black running through well spoken. Accused asked for a £1 note in exchange for silver, and then requested complainant to put the note in an ( addressed envelope which he produced. She did so and handed him the envelope which he sealed. He placed a number of silver coins on the counter, but complainant pointed out that they amounted to only 18s. He apologized, saying his landlady had made a mistake, that he would go back and have the matter rectified, and handed to complainant an envelope addressed the same as the one in which she had placed the £1 note (“ Mrs R. Cole (or Gole), Box 415, Carterton,” in block letters). When he did not return complainant opened the envelope and found it contained only a piece of writing-paper on which was the following: “ Hear Lil, Am sending you one pound as promised, Alex.” On the same day seven other similar offences were committed, apparently by the same man. He had his left arm inside his overcoat in a sling, his scarf being used for the purpose. He said he had broken his collar-bone, but this is believed to be only a blind. No warrant.

Blenheim. 24th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Horeene Myrtle Thomas, Main Street, Aibus William Charles Thomas, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 9 in., cook, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, thick nose, scar between two right fingers; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit, or navy-blue trousers and grey coat, grey felt hat, and black shoes; frequents dance-halls ; good appearance ; fond of drink. When located he is to he interviewed regarding his alleged buggery with Harold Henry Todd, who was also employed on Dillon’s farm. He was dressed in a light navy-blue suit, brown silk shirt, silk tie, and stiff collar, light-grey felt hat, black shoes, and navy-blue overcoat, and he had a large suit-case. He carried in his pocket a small gold-coloured case (with a red diamond in top) containing a set of rosary beads. He was in the habit of showing this case to people whom he met. /&/ffrf O,
