Auckland On the 4th ultimo, the dwelling of FLORENCE MAUD RUTTER, 16 Speight Road, Kohimarama, was broken into and the following stolen : A ladies’ 18 ct. gold oblong wristlet-watch, about the size of a penny stamp, watch lifts out of case when opened, “ Skeats ” printed on dial, with tortoiseshell wristlet attached; and a cigarettecase, shape and colour of a dollar bill: total value, £7 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland —Between the 7th and 14th April last, from the dwelling of MARY ANN MAIDENS, 16 Cobden Street, Newton, a ladies’ 9 ct. gold necklet, about 15 in. long; and an 18 ct. gold expanding bangle: total value, £3. Identifiable.

Auckland. — 21st April last, the property of EDWIN WALLACE COLLINS, 50 Grafton Road, a -22 calibre singleshot Winchester rifle barrel, No. H. 107, 04 model ; value, 10s. Identifiable. Complainant lost the barrel between Bombay and Auckland.

Auckland— About the 9th April last, from the yacht “ Jeanette,” moored at Herne Bay, the property of ALAN LEYLAND, 17 Marine Parade, a -22 calibre Winchester repeating rifle, model 62, No. 11418; a home-made threevalve wireless-set, triangular shape, with three dials; and two grey blankets : total value, £9 6s. Identifiable.

Auckland 4th April last, from a tram-car, the property of ERIC GRANT, 7 Cecil Road, a leather suit-case, size 20 in. by 12 in. by 6 in., “ E.G.” on outside ; a Swan fountainpen with gold band, with “E. Grant ” engraved on it; a Berman fountain-pen; and a number of Tudor latin books : total value, £3 7s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Woman (name unknown), age about forty-five, light-brown hair turning grey, sharp features; wearing glasses and small hat.

Hamilton.— lst April last, from a room in the Bella Vista Boardinghouse, the property of MELBA HOOPER, a ladies’ gold octagon-shape wristlet-watch, gold-coloured dial, with gold expanding wristlet attached, repair mark on wristlet; value, £lO. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Leo Reginald Dennis, referred to in Police Gazette, 1931, page 534, and Photographs, 1922, page 41. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Port Ahuriri. —Between the 12th and 25th February last, from the lighter “ Waiapu,” the property of MESSRS. RICHARDSON AND CO., LTD., a German Bosch magneto, high tension, impulse starter, for single cylinder engine, probably No. 25477 or No. 25479 ; value, £7. Identification doubtful.

Hastings.— llth ultimo, the property of WIRELESS SERVICE CO., Cosy Theatre Buildings, a five-valve Majestic radio-set, dual wave, mantel model, size about 18 in. by 14 in. by 10 in., model 500 A, chassis No. 764 ; value, £24. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Hill, age about twentyone, height about 5 ft. 8 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, light bluish-grey eyes, may have a scar or mark on one cheek; dressed in a brown suit with double-breasted waistcoat, dark-brown overcoat (no hat); well spoken, neat appearance; a heavy cigarette smoker, and continually chews chewing-gum. Suspect leased a flat at 809 Avenue Road East, where he had the wireless-set installed by the above-mentioned company on trial, stating that if it proved satisfactory he would purchase it. On the following day he left the flat and took the wirelessset with him.

Marton.— 6th instant, from the dwelling of ZELMA LIND DOROTHY VOSS, Tutaenui, a ladies’ dark-brown morocco leather purse, size 10 in. by 6 in., fastens on top with nickelplated silver clasp, containing two post-office savings-bank books, Marton, in name of Zelma Lind Dorothy Voss, No. 168, and Allan Leslie Voss, No. 2913, respectively; and 7s. in money : total value, £1 12s. Identifiable except money.

Wellington — On the 7th ultimo, the dwelling of DR. OSCAR JACOBSEN, 48 Sussex Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A solid silver milk jug, with “ G.M.J.” on it; a small blue and white plate with two birds on front, marked “ Asiatic Birds, Ashworth Bros., England,” on back and three green glass tumblers : total value, £2. Jug only identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about twenty, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, fair complexion ; wearing a dark suit and grey cap.

Nelson. the 6th instant, from a room in the Panama Hotel, the property of GRACE MURIEL BENSEMANN, cook, a ladies’ fawn handbag, size 7 in. by 4J- in., with zip fastener, containing a small brown purse; a post-office savings-bank book, Nelson, in name of Grace Bensemann, No. 64100 ; a ladies’ gold wristlet-watch, “ G.M.8.” engraved on back of case, number may be 1231734, with gold expanding wristlet attached ; 3s. 6-|d. in money, &c. : total value, £B. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to Collins (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-six, height 5 ft. 5 in., strong build, fair complexion ; may be wearing a grey overcoat and grey felt hat. A ladies’ rolled-gold bracelet, Supreme make, was found underneath the window of the room from which the handbag was stolen. This bangle previously had been offered for sale by the suspect, and is probably stolen from some other premises. (See following paragraph.)

Nelson. —Between the 3rd and 6th instant, the dwelling of LOUISE LUCAS, 31 Ngatiawa Street, was broken into and the following stolen: A ladies’ gold wristlet-watch (recovered); a 15 ct. gold ring, set with three emeralds with two diamonds on either side; an 18 ct. gold ring, set with either two or three rubies and a diamond; als ct. gold ring, set with a round moonstone in box setting ; and a gold cable bracelet, each cable set with a turquoise and pearl alternately: total value, £49 ss. Identifiable. Suspicion it attached to Collins, referred to in preceding paragraph. Suspect sold the watch to Philip Houghton Kitchingman, jeweller. 6/5 5 - Christchurch ßetween the 4th and sth ultimo, the office of STACEY AND HAWKER, LTD., Essex Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A cheque for £1 on the Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch, No. 231597, drawn by W. G. Jamieson and E. A. M. Roberts, dated 29th April, 1935 ; a cheque for £3 2s. 3d- on the National Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch, No. B. 45248, drawn by E. E. Jones in favour of Stacey and Hawker, Ltd., dated 3rd May, 1935 ; a cheque for £1 Bs. 9d. on the Commercial Bank of Australia, Christchurch, No. A. 793869, drawn by Clifford Jones and Lee in favour of I. Munro, dated 30th April, 1935 ; a cheque for 19s. 6d. on the National Bank of New Zealand, Papanui, No. P. 88545 or No. P. 88546, drawn by Leslie N. Fleming in favour of Stacey and Hawker, Ltd., dated 4th May, 1935 ; a postal note for 55.; a postal note for 35.; and £263 11s. Id. in money : total value, £270 9s. 7d. Cheques only identifiable. The property was stolen from a strong-room, which was opened by means of explosives. Suspicion is attached to Edward Gammon Ellen, referred to in Police Gazette, 1934, page 32, and Photographs, 1931, page 37. When located he is not to be interviewed, but an urgent communication is to be sent to the Superintendent of Police, Christchurch.

Dunedin ßetween the 31st March and sth April last, a cottage at Warrington, the property of CONTANCE ROSS, 235 High Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A ladies’ 9 ct. gold wristlet-watch, “ C.R.” engraved on outside of back case; an eight-day nickel motor-clock; a pair of horn-rimmed spectacles ; a hand-saw, with “ Macleod ” stamped on handle, &c. : total value, £l7 14s. 6d.
