INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Sydney (Australia). lnquiries are to be made for a bell which was stolen from the Australian War Museum, Sydney, on or about the 28th April last. Description: About 20 in. high and 18 in. diameter at bottom, made of malleable steel, piece broken off side and tongue, suspendingring missing, weight 112 lb. The following described man is suspected of having stolen it: Charles Kaolmel, alias Gustave Kaolmel, alias Colman, alias Charles King, alias Otto Konig, alias Otto Kchn, age about twenty-nine, height about 5 ft. 8 in., motor mechanic, native of Germany, good build, fair complexion ; usually well dressed; speaks French fluently. He disappeared from Sydney soon after the bell was stolen. A photograph of the bell, which originally belonged to the German Cruiser “ Emden,” is filed in the Commissioner’s office, Wellington. Sydney (Australia).— On the 19th ultimo, /ROWAN’S BOND STORE in York Street was broken into and the following stolen : Nine new wooden cases, size 33} in. by 17} in. by 24§ in., containing packets of Chesterfield cigarettes. These cases were branded “ Best and Gee,” over “ Sydney, L 2243,” also Customs numbers “ 1,2, 3,5, 6, 8,9,10, 11, gross 144, tare 75 - 00, nett G 8.40, cigarettes for export by Liggett and Myers, Tob. Co., Fac. No. Dist. Calif. Inspected 21st July, 1933, by S. Brackman. D.” The weight varies from 143 lb. to 146 lb. net; seven cases containing Edgeworth tobacco. Four of the cases, size 3 ft. 5 in. by 2 ft. 3 in. by 1 ft. 3 in., contained 2-oz. hip-pocket tins of ready-rubbed tobacco, each case containing 1081 b. The remaining three cases, size 2 ft. 2 in. by 1 ft. 8} in. by 1 ft. 3 in., contained 2-oz. round hermetically sealed tins, which have blue labels, and are said not to be sold in Australia, but are manufactured for sale only in the Islands. One of the cases also contained fortyeight 1-lb. glass jars of ready-rubbed Edgeworth tobacco. These cases were branded respectively “ G 1486 No 14 G 1486, No. 15, Q 1602, No. 12, P 1602, No. 13, Q 1939, No. 3* Q 1939, No. 7, T 2124,” and “ R.T.” in diamond, and “ E ” over “ Sydney,” also “ Edgeworth Manf. Tobacco for export by Lurus and Bro. Co. No. 45, District V.A.”; forty boxes of Muscovitas cigars, each containing fifty; twenty boxes of Manilla Jockey Club cigars, each containing fifty ; two boxes of casquets, each containing fifty ; sixty-five boxes of German cheroots; and two cases containing silk, cases branded “ L.S.L.” in double triangle over “ Sydney,” Nos. 3503, 3504, W 2224, size of cases 3 ft. 1 in. by 2 ft. 4 in. by 1 ft. 9 in.' and 3 ft. 6 in. by 2 ft. 5 in. by 1 ft. 9 in. respectively : total value, £1,000.. These cases may be forwarded to this Dominion and an effort made to sell their contents. (P. 33/1131.)
Melbourne (Australia).-- The above are photographs of John Hope Boles, who is wanted on warrant for the murder, at 19 Raleigh Street, Windsor, on the 19th July last, of Kathleen Dorman. Description of offender: Age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 10 in., thin build, long thin features, tan complexion, fair hair, greyish eyes, large ears, faint scar on chin close to lip, faint scar on forehead, several teeth missing on right side of upper jaw, bad teeth; wearing navy-blue trousers and coat (no vest), material of which has double red stripes running through with faint blue dots between the lines, brown heather mixture lumber jacket with zip fastener, black patent leather shoes of dancing pump type; was employed as a gardener by the Prahran City Council, and was formerly a clerk in the Victorian Railway Department; well educated, and Writes a neat hand.
