Newton. — ultimo, for breaking and entering the dwelling of Grace Paton, 20 Elgin Street, and stealing a gentlemen’s fawn Kaiapoi cardigan, value 10s., Wan (name unknown), age about thirty-two, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, fair complexion, wavy fair hair going bald, thin features; wearing brownish-fawn tweed overcoat and sandshoes (no hat). He entered the house by a window and stole the cardigan. No warrant.

Auckland. — Fred White, default of fine and costs : It has been ascertained by the Auckland police that he is in Australia. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 387.)

Auckland. 3oth June last, on warrant for forgery, W. H. P. Jenkins, age about thirty, height 6 ft., company secretary, native of Ireland, slight build, fair complexion, sandy hair, blue eyes; dressed in a navy-blue suit and black bowler hat; quick gait; slightly stooped. Accused forged the signature of Kate Fulcher, Great South Road, Papakura, to an Auckland Terminating Building Society transfer-form in respect of two shares, Nos. 1885 and 1880, held by Kate Fulcher. Accused may endeavour to leave this Dominion. There are other charges pending.

Auckland. — 16th instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £lO 11s. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his child, of whom Jennie Redman is the mother, Mate Babich, age fifty-three, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer and gum-digger, native of Dalmatia, strong build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes. <£/'//3Z -

His parents were Portuguese, and he is known to have been living with a small thin Maori woman. (See Police page 1

Ashburton. l6th instant, on warrant for forgery and uttering, J. M. Watson (name probably fictitious), age about nineteen, slight build, fair complexion and hair, light-coloured large eyes, large nose; dressed in a grey suit, blue pullover with V-shaped neck, brown tie with red spots, dark-brown/ tweed Raglan overcoat, and tan shoes of Mocassin style , erect gait; usually laughs when spoken to. Accused, who was staying at the Commercial Hotel, stole from a bedroom in the hotel a blank cheque, the property of Simms McNally and Mark Solomon, who were also staying there, forged the signatures “ S. McNally ” and “ J. Soliom ” to the cheque, and uttered it to Maurice Valdemar Bernstein, watchmaker, in payment of £1 Is. fid. for a wristlet-watch, receiving £3 Bs. 6d. cash. Complainant later recovered the watch and £1 6s. sd. from accused. /3/ ?/3> % ,

Waikaia. l7th instant, that he may be interviewed regarding a Winchester repeating rifle, No. 621148, which he purchased from Andrew Dickson, of Freshford, some time in 1930, John Phillip Mayhew, age about twenty-four, salesman, native of England. He did not have a permit to procure the rifle, and he failed to register it.

On the 28th January, 1921, he registered a -22 calibre Remington repeating rifle, No. 372401 : (3) Ellen Young, married. On the 28th January, 1921, she registered a -22 calibre Winchester repeating rifle, No. 470967 : (4) John Waho Daniel, labourer. On the 3rd June, 1927, he registered a -22 calibre single-shot 1904 model Winchester rifle : and (5) George Albright, labourer. On 19th November, 1926, he registered a -22 calibre single-shot Winchester rifle, “ A ” on stock.
