At about 3.15 a.m. Peter Shaw Grant, storekeeper, Puerua, opened his front door in answer to a knock and was confronted by an unknown man masked with a muffler, who flashed a torch in his face, menaced him with a double- relied revolver, and demanded the keys of the safe and his cash. Complainant withdrew momentarily to arm himself, but when he returned accused was on the road and soon disappeared presumably in a motor-car. About twenty minutes later the Balclutha police saw a silent-running three-seater Vauxhall motor-car being driven in Renfrew Street by an unknown man, who refused to stop. This car, subsequently found near the railway, was identified as that of James Hawkins Crutchley, Balclutha, which was unlawfully taken from histamrage, and was probably used by the offender. Any information concerning the offence is to be communicated to the Superintendent of Po^e^Dur^dk 1 . warrant.
