Accused obtained £3 19s. 3d. and a packet of cigarettes, value 9d., from Kathleen Ambrose Harvey, wife of licensee, Warwick Arms' Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for £4. Accused obtained 10s. from Henry Charles King, confectioner, 334 Jackson Street, by falsely representing that Oswald Winfield Linkhorn’s motor-car, which he was adjusting, was at Upper Hutt, and he required the money to provide benzine to enable it to return to Petone.

Wellington. —lsth ultimo, for breaking and entering the shop of France Bros., 141 Lambton Quay, and stealing £1 16s. 9d., Man (name unknown), age about thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, florid complexion ; may have scar over right eye; shabbily dressed in a blue suit and light felt hat. Included in the money stolen was 17s. 3d. in threepenny-pieces, and next day the man above-described passed in at the Hotel Cecil twenty of these coins, receiving their equivalent in other money. No warrant.

Christchurch. 7th ultimo, on four warrants of commitment to Paparua Prison for five days on each of three, and seven days on the other, in default of paying £5 10s. fines and costs for failing to pay his unemployment levies, William Robert Smith, alias William Richard Webster, alias Stevens, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 7'in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, black hair, blue eyes; clasped hands, “Bridget,” “ Billy,” and “24837” on right arm; sear on abdomen.
