Hamilton. — instant, on warrant for forgery, Herbert Watson, age twenty-two, height 6 ft., labourer, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, sharp features; dressed in a brown suit and blue overcoat (no hat); sullen appearance; slouching gait. Accused, who was employed by T. P. Wing, farmer, occupied a room with a workmate, Allen John Terry, whose post-office savings-bank book he stole, forged his signature to a withdrawal receipt for £25, and uttered it at the Post-office, Hamilton. When the authenticity of the signature was questioned he y £ ?
Cambridge. 2lst ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Cambridge Prison for two days in default of paying £1 15s. fine and costs for failing to pay his unemployment levy, Richard Sanford Hodgson, age about fifty-live, height about 5 ft. 7 in., farmer, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, has a moustache : dressed in a dark-grey suit and felt hat; quiet manner.
New Plymouth. —On or about the 23rd ultimo, for false pretences, Thomas Daubney, referred to in Police Gazette. 1932, page 506, and Photographs, 1928, page 78. Accused, who was employed by William Robert Leighton, cabinetmaker, Devon Street, obtained from his employer 10 yd. of moquette, value £1 155., by falsely representing that it was ordered by a Mr. Hogg. He subsequently sold the/moquette to a second-hand dealer ._ No- warrant. J&L 2 / ////'% o
Napier. 7th ultimo, for forgery, Man (name unknown), age about eighteen, height 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair. Accused uttered to Elsie May Dunn, confectioner, 9 Faraday Street, a forged £1 note, No. H 281640, on the Bank of New South Wales, and obtained change for it. The note, which is signed “ T. R. Till” and “ J. C. Bluck,” dated Ist May, 1931, is hand-drawn and a poor imitation, the colouring being more purple than that of a genuine note. On the 14th May last a similar bank-note was cashed at Napier, vide Police Gazette, 1932, page 407. No warrant.
Rongotea. —l7th instant, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address (Arms Act) may be instituted against him, Leonard Strong, age about forty, height 5 ft. 9 in., ex-farmer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion and hair, blue eyes. On the 12th April, 1926, he registered a *22 calibre Stevens Arms Co. rifle, No. L. 988.
Palmerston North. —17th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Michael Lynch, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion and hair, blue eyes, straight nose, slow halting speech, two scars under right knee; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit, blue overcoat, and grey felt hat; fond of drink. Kttmara. —l7th instant, that proceedings for failing' to notify his change of address (Arms Act) may be instituted against him, Albert Souniss, ffifsbjnan, native of New Zealand.
. Christchurch. —lßth instant, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation (Offenders Probation Act), Leslie Janies Hagerty, referred to in Police Gazette, 1932, page 39. He has failed to make restitution, and his arrest is desired. /L& /yAi
Wellington. —2nd August last, for theft of a gentlemen’s overcoat (recovered), value £3, the property of Frederick Brosnahan, 18 Newman Terrace, Frank Cross (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 1 in., medium build. The coat was stolen from St. Patrick’s College, and sold to a second-hand dealer. No warrant.
