PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. On the 16th and 23rd August last, the shops of STANLEY SHARP, 42 Albert Street, and ARTHUR GEORGE ROWLATT, 84 Wellington Street, were broken into and a large quantity of tobacco and cigarettes of various brands stolen. Total value, £3O. Not identifiable.

Waihi. Between the 17th and 19th ultimo, from the railway-line, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Railways Department), an A. and G. Price timberjack, No. 16485, branded “ F.0.W.” and “ N.Z.R.” ; value, £9 10s. Identifiable.

New Plymouth. Between the 24th June last and the 24th August, from the dwelling of JANET BOAG AYCKBOURN, Carrington Road, a ladies’ gold Rolex wristlet-watch ; value, £lO. Identifiable.

Raetihi. Between the 11th and 13th June last, from stables in Ward Street, the property of CURTIS WILLIAM MOORE, carrier, a gentlemen’s gold keyless hunting Waltham watch, No. 13900266, “F. Moore ” scratched on inside of case; and a 9 ct. gold watch-chain, long and short links alternate; total value, £ll. Identifiable.

Wanganui. —Between the 23rd and 24th ultimo, from a motor-car in Ingester Street, the property of ALBERT EDWARD ADAMS, Ohakune, a gentlemen’s double-breasted brown leather overcoat, bottom button missing from right side, blue check lining; and a light-fawn rug, with green stripes, with “ 8.E.A.” in brown on it: total value, £4. Identifiable.

Wanganui. —loth ultimo, from a motor-car, the property of LESLIE JOHN SHORTT, 6 Swiss Avenue, a large check rug, with red, grey, black, and blue running through it, a tear about 6 in. long in it; and a fawn rug, with a green check, a small hole at each of two corners ; and an extension electric Tight lamp : total value, £ll. Rugs only identifiable.

Wanganui. Between the 16th and 17th ultimo, the shop of JOHN LEONARD BEER, Main Street, Waverley, was broken into and the following stolen : A leather gladstone bag; three ladies’ handbags, envelope style, size about 9 in. by 5 in.; and 10s. in money : total value, £4. Not identifiable.

Wanganui. —On the 23rd ultimo, from 297 Victoria Avenue, the property of LILLIAN SPILLANE and another, three ladies’ handbags (recovered); a post-office savings-bank book, Wanganui, No. 133659, in name of Alice Agnes Gilligan; and about £2 in money : total value, £5 ss. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to Two Men (names unknown), one of whom is described as age about twenty-two, height 5 ft. 7 in., medium build.

Palmerston North. DOROTHY CARMICHAEL, 91 College Street, a ladies’ gold Swiss wristlet-watch, with expanding bracelet; value, £4. Identifiable.

Petone. —During March, 1927, from a garage at 95 Victoria Street, Lower Hutt, the property of EDWARD SHIELDSBROWN, Le Cren Terrace, Timaru, a -22 calibre single-shot Remington rifle, No. 417648 ; value, £l. Identifiable.

Wellington. —6th August last, from a motor-car in Tinakori Road, the property of ALBERT LONSDALE COOK, 23 Jessie Street, Petone, a Carbine tropical camera, Ross 4-5 lens, Compur shutter, “ Butcher and Houghton, England,” and “ Ensign Carbine ” stamped on it, in a black leather case, morocco finish ; f value, £l4 17s. fid. Identifiable.

Wellington. On the 3rd ultimo, the shop of ALFRED LINDON BROWN, grocer, 97 Todman Street, Brooklyn, was broken into and a large quantity of tobacco and cigarettes of various brands stolen : total value, £ls. Not identifiable.

Wellington. On the 12th August last, the dwelling of TREVOR THOMAS, 95 Ellice Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A round gold bangle, set with eight or nine square topazes in raised claw setting; a gold Wahl Eversharp pencil; a greenstone bar brooch, bar shape of an oar with gold canoe in centre; a Gotta razor, with black handle; a pack of linen playing-cards; a hair-brush and comb ; and a number of old coins : total value, £8 4s. 6d. Portion identifiable.

Wellington. l6th May last, the property of ALEXANDER' McKENZIE, hotelkeeper, Blackball, a watch (recovered); . a gentlemen’s open-face' silver lever watch ;. and a gold fine-curb watch-chain, apparently? made of triple granny-chain conjoined in centre with large square gateshaped link: total value, £l2. Identifiable. Suspicion-is attached to William Burgess, age about thirty-seven, height about 5 ft. 8 in., hotel porter, slight build, sallow complexion, brown hair, large nose, thin features ; usually well dressed in a navy-blue suit and cap. He may be an ex-jockey. The articles were stolen from a room in the Pier Hotel, where the--suspect visited complainant. The recovered watch had beenpawned on the 20th July by a man who gave the name Alfred Spence. 2. 3

During the night of the 30th August last, from rooms in Kenilworth Boardinghouse, Hill Street) the property of WILLIAM THOMAS FINDLAY and others, a leather key-wallet, with about five keys, “ W. T. Findlay ” written inside ; a pair of navy-blue trousers ; a cheque-book on the Commercial Bank of Australia, Wellington, containing five cheque-forms, No. E. 173204-E. 173208; a brown suede wallet; references and letters in the name of Clifton Webb Verran ; and £l3 10s. in money, including two sovereigns and a half-sovereign : total value, £ls 15s. On the 17th or 18th ultimo, the warehouseof ARDREY AND SON, boot importers, 106 Cuba Street,.was broken into and the following stolen : Six pairs of gentlemen’s black leather, “ Flexile ” boots, sizes 6, 64, 7,8, and 9|, with First & Special Award, Exhibition, 1914 Flexile ” on soles; eight pairs of gentlemen’s black box-calf boots, sizes 7,8, 84, and 9, “ Tecnic, all leather, made in England,” on soles, “ Chester ” on instep, “ Ardrey & Sons, Ltd.” on inside of tops ; four pairs of gentlemen’s black boots, “ Wolsey, British make, solid leather ” on soles ; three pairs of gentlemen’s black boots, “ Orcella, solid leather,” on soles; three pah s of gentlemen’s working boots ; five pairs of gentlemen’s boots, “ Ibex, all leather, made in England ” on soles ; eight pairs of gentlemen’s black glace-kid boots, sizes 7,8, 84. and 9, “ Tecnic, all leather, made in England ” on soles, and “ Chester ” on instep ; three pairs of ladies’ black shoes, sizes 3 and 4, “ Walkaway Registered ” on soles ; and three pairs of ladies’ black shoes, sizes 3 and 4, “ St. Louis ” on soles : total value, £42. Westport. —Between the 12th and 13th ultimo, the factory of HALLENSTEIN BROS., LTD., was broken into and the following stolen: Three suit-cases; a gentlemen’s suit two overcoats; two pairs of gentlemen’s shoes; thirteen pairs of gentlemen’s fancy socks (recovered); and two pairs of gentlemen’s tan kid gloves, fleecy lined: total value, £44 9s. 2d. Gloves not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Barney Vincent Reardon, referred to in Police Gazette, 1932, page 374, and Photographs, 1931, page 40; and Alfred Charles Bennett, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, grey eyes ; anchor and star on back of left hand ; hands across the sea, woman, and flag on right forearm ; woman and “ Mother ” on left forearm. They have been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Christchurch. —On the 9th August last, the dwelling of HERBERT. FOX, 317 Madras Street, was broken into and the following stolen : Two gold medals ; a gold bangle; and a gold ring (recovered); a ladies’ gold hunting watch; six gold medals, with “H. Fox ” inscribed on them; a gold ring, set with three rubies and two small diamonds; a gold ring, set with five blue sapphires ; a gold ring, set with four or five emeralds, with small diamond on each side of emerald ; and three gold wedding rings : total value, £24. Identifiable. The articles recovered were sold to a gold-buyer.

Christchurch. —On or about the 23rd July last, from a railway-truck, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Railways Department), a large quantity of tobacco and cigarettes of various brands; total value, £3B. Not identifiable. The property was enclosed in two packages consigned to firms in Timaru. -----

Christchurch. —On the 21st July last, the shop of REECE AND CO., hardware merchants, 661 Colombo Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A two-cell Niagara torch ; two Reece Super model tennis-racquets ; sixty ’303 C.A.C. soft-point cartridges, in packets of ten; six flat Grosvenor 44-volt electric batteries, type 300; a ladies’ gold Swiss wristlet-watch, gilt dial; and a "22 calibre Remington repeating-rifle, model 12 : total value, £l2. In addition to the above property, goods, value £l3B, were also stolen at the same time, but were subsequently recovered, having been abandoned by the offenders.

Christchurch. — the 4th December, 1931, and 20th February last, the property of JOHN GEORGE BARK, 110 Chester Street, a gentlemen’s black bicycle; a number of text-books on the following subjects Education, method, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, trigonometry, algebra, hygiene, chemistry, poetry, nature study; and three musicbooks : total value, £4. Not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Mary Jane Radcliffe, age about forty-two, height 5 ft. 5 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair complexion, grey hair, blue eyes; usually well dressed in dark clothes. Complainant was boarding at 53 Gloucester Street with the suspect, and was absent between the above dates ; when he returned the suspect had vacated the house, and it was ascertained that she sold the bicycle to a secondhand dealer. When located she is to be interviewed.

Christchurch. On the 15th August last, the dwelling of MARGARET JONES, 59 Whiteleigh Avenue, was broken into and the following stolen : A ladies’ gold Rolex wristlet-watch, “ M.J.” on back, with gold expanding-wristlet attached; a plain gold bangle ; a pair of gold sleeve-finks ; a gold brooch, 2 in. long, with a diamond set in centre; a ladies’ gold ring, set with five diamonds ; a ladies’ gold ring, set with a cameo of a nude woman ; and a Belgium five-franc silver coin: total value, £3l. Identifiable. 1

Dunedin. Between the 31st July and 7th August last, a cottage at Brighton, the property of FREDERICK TANNER, 746 King Street, was broken into and the following stolen : Seven pairs of dark-grey blankets, f size; two grey bush rugs, with red stripes ; a blue check bush rug ; a fawn hearth rug, with pink roses in it; a blue check bush rug, with darkblue stripes; six single heavy twill sheets; a pillow; a cushion, with brown cretonne cover; a dark-grey floor-mat, with lavender flowers ; a gentlemen’s bluish-grey overcoat, with darker stripe, size 4 ; a Valet safety-razor ; six stainless dessert-knives ; six stainless dessert-spoons ; twelve forks ; twelve spoons; twelve table-knives; and a quantity of tinned fruit, &c. : total value, £24 2s. Portion identifiable.

Hamilton. —15/8/32, the property of Lionel Edward McDonald, a gentlemen’s Farmers’, No. A.S. 5250, blue with red lines; value, £l2. Suspicion is attached to R. Burt (name probably fictitious), age about nineteen, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, fair freckled complexion; wearing grey trousers, dark coat, and yachting cap. Suspect called at the Bargin Cycle Shop, Karangahape Road, Auckland, and attempted to dispose of it.
