Whangarei. — ultimo, from a motor-car in Bank Street, the property of MARJORIE ISOBEL YOUNG, Kiripaka, a brown crocodile leather handbag, size about 6 in. by 8 in., hand strap on back, containing a small purse value, £ls. Identifiable.

Auckland. Between the 15th and 17th April last, from the Drill Hall, Rutland Street, the property of WILLIAM ALFRED THOMAS McGUIRE, probationary constable, an infantry sword, No. 444/26, silver-plated hilt, with “ G.R.” and crown on it; and a leather scabbard : total value, £2 10s. Identifiable.

Ohakune. 2oth March last, the property of VERNON GREENSLADE, farmer, Rangataua Road, and another, a bay mare, 15 hands, white star, white markings on feet, girth gall, sore on back ; and a stock-saddle, one knee-pad repaired : total value, £6. Suspicion is attached to Jimmy Mitchell (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair hair and complexion; wearing light-lavender coloured Oxford bag trousers, dark coat, saxblue shirt, and felt hat. Wanganui. the 4th and sth instant, the warehouse of BING, HARRIS, AND CO., Taupo Quay, was broken into and the following stolen : A number of gentlemen’s shirts, Mazon brand; six gentlemen’s cream tricoline neglige shirts; eight gentlemen’s fugi silk canoe shirts; three or four gentlemen’s tweed overcoats, may have “ Arrow brand ” on tickets ; two gentlemen’s navy-blue gabardine overcoats ; seven pairs of gentlemen’s gloves; six leather suit-cases, sizes 24 in. by 26 in.; sixteen razors, Gotta brand ; a number of stainless desert and table knives, Christopher Johnston, Wade and Butcher, or Mather brands; two sets of carvers; two E.P.N.S. hot-water jugs ; an Onoto fountain-pen; three Conklin fountain-pens; twenty assorted hair-combs ; nine assorted tobacco-pouches ; two E.P.N.S. cigarette-cases ; nine Loewe pipes ; eighteen pairs of ladies’ silk hose ; twentyfour pairs of gentlemen’s half-hose; four gentlemen’s cardigans, assorted colours ; seventeen pairs of ladies’ art silk and lock-nit bloomers ; six ladies’ tweed and face-cloth overcoats, with fur collars and cuffs; and a ladies’ imitation coney-skin fur coat: total value, £l5B. Identifiable. The stock was considerably damaged by fire, and it is suspected that the persons who stole the above-mentioned property wilfully set fire to the premises. /A /

Wellington. — loth ultimo, from 80 Pirie Street, the property of GERTRUDE MARGARET LE SUEUR, a ladies’ gold dress ring, set with a ruby in centre, three small emeralds on each side for wings, small pearl for a head, and two small diamonds for eyes; and a ladies’ gold hunting watch : total value, £l2. Wellington. — April last, from Mount Cook School grounds, the property of MARJORY MAY GOODIN, 49 Beauchamp Street, a dark-fawn leather purse, with zipp fastener; a ladies’ 9 ct. gold Cyma wristlet-watch, No. 170586 ; a blue-head necklace ; and 7s. 6d. in money: total value, £4 19s. 6d. Identifiable except money.

Murchison. —Between the 10th April last and 17th ultimo, the property of HUGH GORDON ALLISON, Howard, a 10-12 H.P. Harley Davidson motor-cycle engine, twin cylinder, 1926-7 electric model, engine No. J.D. 5461; a gear-box; a petrol-tank, with “Harley Davidson” on it; driving and transmission chains ; three wheels, fitted with Firestone, Michelin, and Goodyear tires ; and a three-cell motor-cycle battery : total value, £69. Engine only identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Alexander Bird, age about thirty-two, height about 5 ft. 7 in., motor-driver and mechanic, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair; active gait; talkative.
