Auckland. 7th ultimo, from 14 Arney Road, Remuera, the property of ARTHUR BEATON, Matamata, a gentlemen’s double-breasted heather tweed overcoat, grey silk lining, pleated at back, size 41 or 5, “ Horace. Bull ” brand on inside ; and a leather suit-case, size 22 in. by 18 in., “ warranted bullock hide ” stamped on bottom, black stain on inside : total value, £9. Identifiable.
Auckland— POßTEß’S DYE WORKS broken into. In addition to the property described in Police Gazette, 1931, page 612, the following was also stolen : A navy-blue suit with faint stripes, “ J. T. Lewis, Wellington,” on tag inside breast-pocket and on trouser buttons : value, £l2. Identifiable.
Auckland. 2sth August last, the property of ANTONIA ALFONSA, labourer, 116 Hobson Street, an imitation leather suit-case, black, about 3 ft. 6 in. long, with two compartments, leather handle in centre and at each end; a black double-breasted suit, size about 5, made in Te Kuiti, and bears the tailor’s tag; a coffee-coloured suit, with stripes, size about 5, double-breasted, made in Te Kuiti; three pairs of black shoes, size 9 ; a square box camera ; three white silk, and three white cotton shirts, 14| neck ; four pairs of flesh-coloured Kaiapoi underpants ; four flesh-coloured Kaiapoi singlets ; twenty collars, size 14J; seven pairs of silk socks, mixed colours ; two German blade razors and strop ; a silver manicure-set; a silver wristlet-watch, with “ A.A.” on back ; and an 18 ct. gold single albert: total value, £4O. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Two Men (names unknown) —(1) Age about twenty height about 6 ft., stout build : and (2) age about twenty-two, height about 5 ft. 8 in., stout build.
Auckland. —l9th September last, from a motor-car, the property of WILLIAM ALLAN BLOMFIELD, medical practitioner, Remuera, a black Firestone Rudge-Whitworth wire wheel for an Austin 16h.p. motor-car, size 20 by 500, with Dunlop tube ; value, £lO. Identifiable.
Thames. —On the 11th September last, a hut, the property of HIPI HOPI, gum-digger, Puriri, and another, was broken into and the following stolen : A Sheffield blade razor ; a light-brown tweed suit; a navy-blue suit, made by “ Longe ” Thames ; a blue silk shirt; a white canoe shirt; a pair of black boots, size 6 ; a silver hunting-lever watch, key wind ; a brass watch-chain ; and 50 lb. of kauri-gum : total value, £lB 3s. 6d. Identification doubtful.
Kawhia. Between December, 1926, and September, 1931, the property of WILLIAM HARAWIA ARMSTRONG, a •32 calibre five-chambered revolver, “ Young America Double Action ”on barrel, No. 2332 ; value, £1 10s. Identifiable.
Tauranga. —Between the 20th and 25th ultimo, from the dwelling of LOUISA BLANCHE MELLISH, Mount Maunganui, a gold half-hoop ring, set with five diamonds ; a gold diamond cluster-ring, with an emerald in centre ; and a fourswallow brooch, set with diamonds (one missing /from end) : total value, £9O. Identifiable, PiffUsvsoU b///i i- *- Stratford. —During rhe night of the 26th ultimo, the King’s Theatre, was broken into and the following, the propertv of the STRATFORD PICTURE COMPANY, stolen : £56 14s. 9d., consisting of twelve £1 notes and the balance in silver.
Taihape. —lst ultimo, from the Town Hall, the property of WILFRED HERBERT FOOKES, chemist, a gentlemen’s three-quarter length mottled light-grey tweed overcoat, “ Onehunga Woollen Mills ” on inside of collar ; value, £7. Identifiable.
Patea. —14th ultimo, from the Town Hall, Patea, the property of RALPH BOURN, farmer, Whenuakura, a gentlemen’s light-brown leather double-breasted overcoat, made of four separate skins, brown lining with large black striped check ; value, £7. Identifiable. X. /§> /
Hunterville. — ultimo, the property of GEORGE WALLACE KELLY, Rata, £5 in notes. Suspicion is attached to Hugh Bolstad, age eighteen, height 5 ft. 3 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, thin build, fair complexion and hair, shabbily dressed in a light-grey coat (much too large), trousers, and cap. For about ten days the suspect, in return for his food, worked for complainant, and, after the offence was committed he -fig £/t'IJZ/ Wellington. —l2th September last, from a show-case at 7 Bond Street, the property of LILLY YEN, three pieces of linen towelling, with Chinese lantern designs on them ; a hand-worked satin table-centre, size 12 in. by 18 in. ; six -mounted mother-of-pearl bangles; six printed silk handkerchiefs ; four carved ivory pendants ; a number of carved ivory brooches ; elephants ; bangles ; and Buddhas ; three glass paper-weights ; a number of porcelain figures and pagodas ; twelve dozen linen and sheer handkerchief s, drawn - thread work ; &c. : total value, £35. Portion identifiable.
Wellington. —lsth September last, from the Commercial Travellers Club, the property of HUMPHREY HETHERINGTON, 38 Dignan Street, Auckland, a brown leather suit-case, size about 28 in., two nickel locks, leather handle, which has been repaired ; a gentlemen’s navy-blue suit with faint white stripes ; a pair of light-brown shoes, size 7 ; a pair of black shoes, size 7 ; a number of shirts ; collars ; handkerchiefs ; &c. : total value, £2O. Portion identifiable.
Wellington. sth September last, from the premises of the Wellington - Napier Transport Co., Farish Street, the property of LIONEL EDWARD ALEXANDER, 79 Kent Terrace, a new Exide car-battery, type 3XC 15-1 HR, size about 12 in. long, 7 in. wide, and 9 in. deep, No. 663 D; value, £7 10s. Identifiable.
Wellington. Between the 21st and 22nd ultimo, from a show-case at 126 Cuba Street, the property of MARIE DEAN, two coloured photographs of bust of child, in narrow gilt frames, size 14 in. by 10 in., with “ Marie Dean ” written on each : total value, £3 ss. Identifiable.
Wellington. —Between the Bth and 10th August last, from a letter-rack at the Windsor Hotel, the property of GODFREY ALLAN CLAY, 73 Rolleston Street, a letter addressed to “G. A. Clay, Windsor tel, Wellington,” containing a cheque for £6 18s. 3d. on the Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd., Auckland, drawn by the Prestige Millinery, Ltd., in favour of G. A. Clay. Suspicion is attached to - Clark (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 11 in., strong build, fair freckled complexion, ginger hair, blue eyes, prominent nose ; wearing a brown suit, brown felt hat, brown shoes, and brown overcoat; slight impediment in speech ; upper teeth appear to have been recently extracted. On the 10th August last the suspect presented the cheque to Victor James Rowell, 132 Courtenay Place, and obtained £2 on it.
Wellington. —24th September last, from an office in the City Mission, Taranaki Street, the property of JOHN WILLIAM HENRY HUNT, 63 Hopper Street, a brown suit with double-breasted coat, trousers pleated at top, with three beltstraps attached ; a gentlemen’s light-brown felt hat; and a brown leather wallet with “ Wright Stevenson ” stamped on front: total value, £6 ss. Identifiable.
Reefton. —Between the 23rd and 24th September last, from a gravel-pit at Larry’s Creek, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Public Works Department), two wooden wheel-barrows, cast-iron wheels, branded P.W.D. ; total value, £2 10s. Identifiable. It is suspected that they were taken away on a motor-lorry.
Christchurch. September last, from the shop of GEORGE MISHKIN, 113 a Armagh Street, a 40 in. Northern Musquash fur coat, light-brown with dark tones, gathered collar, lined with shot-blue and orange figured silk, “ London Fur Co.” on tab near neck ; value, £2B. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Woman (name unknown), age about twenty, height 5 ft. 7 in., strong build, dark complexion and hair, dark eyes ; wearing fawn tweed oVercoat, gun-metal-coloured stockings, and black felt hat turned up in front. •
Christchurch. —On the 2nd ultimo, the premises of CAROLINE BOWLES, “ Londontown,” was broken into and the following stolen : A gentlemen’s navy-blue woollen overcoat, Petone brand, “ W. Bowles ” in ink on tab, imitation belt at back, half-lined with tartan ; a Decca portable gramophone, green leather case, copper-coloured sound-box, with “ 111 ”on it; fifteen 10 in. records ; a dozen pairs of woollen socks, mainly grey and fawn, “W. Bowles ” in ink on tab stitched to each ; a leather shaving compactum, containing two square wooden-backed hair-brushes, with black comb, and two silver-topped bottles ; three or four grey-white woollen singlets, “W. Bowies” on tab attached to each; two or three grey woollen working shirts ; an ivory-handled Ern German razor ; a worsted brown suit, red thread through it, Petone on tab ; six tobralco white shirts, 15 in. neck, marked “N. 8.” inside neck a grey flannel shirt; two tennis open-necked shirts, marked “N. 8.” ; five ties ; a pair of black box-calf shoes, size 9 ; a pair of black leather shoes, size 9, with patent leather toes ; a pair of black patent leather shoes, size 9-J ; six woollen singlets, grey-white, marked N. On the 25th September last, the dwelling of MATILDA LOUISA ANDERSON, 34 Wainoni Road, was broken into and the following stolen : An eiderdown quilt; a bedspread ; a white single blanket; four pillow-slips ; a pair of gentlemen’s tan boots, size 8 ; a gentlemen’s pepper-and-salt-coloured suit; three gentlemen’s shirts ; a ladies’ brown face-cloth coat, fur collar, lined with figured silk; a feather boa ; a ladies’ brown dress, lined with figured silk ; a blue dress, with row of buttons in front from waist to neck • a ladies’ fawn coat ; a gentlemen’s singlet, Roslyn make ; a pair of gentlemen’s underpants; a jersey; a heliotrope frock ; a trinket-box ; a gold band-ring with “ M.A.” on it ; two imitation pearl necklaces ; a white pearl bow, with “ W.C.T.U.” on it; a pair of earrings, leaf pattern, with blue drop-stone on each ; a pair of ladies’ stockings ; a pair of Roslyn woollen combinations ; and a ladies’ blue dressingjacket : total value*, £3B Bs. 6d. Christchurch.— On the 13th ultimo, the store of WILLIAM HENRY ROBINSON, 144 New Brighton Road, was broken into and the following stolen : A quantity of Bears, Silver Fern, Rugby, Yellow Bird, High Admiral, Riverhead Gold, Havelock Mixture, Capstan, Golden Eagle, Yankee Doodle, and Edgeworth tobacco ; and a quantity of cigarettes : total value, £2B 9s. 7d. Dunedin. Between the 19th and 22nd September last, from 18 Leckhampton Court, the property of LAWRENCE HENRY SMYTH, a Kodak 1A folding camera, F. 6, 3 lens, No. 472627, Compur shutter, black leatherette covering, in a brown leather case ; value, £6 10s. Identifiable.
Dunedin. —On the 29th August last, the warehouse of BING, HARRIS, AND CO., Vogel Street, was broken into and the following stolen : a fibre cane 26 in. suit-case ; a fibre cane 12 in. attache-case ; four ladies’ cream wool cardigan coats; two damask table cloths, with coloured borders; two pairs of ladies’ silk hose, Maestro make, in dark fawn shades ; a pair of Mosgiel socks, brown heather shade ; a pair of ladies’ flesh-coloured under-hose ; a pair of cream woven bloomers, ribbed, elastic at knee ; five pairs of ladies’ dark hose; two bottles of Hulle de Rose brillantine, in black and gold boxes ; a box of peroxide vanishing cream ; eight pairs of ladies’ fancy garters ; a dozen white Pyramid gentlemen’s handkerchiefs, with coloured borders ; four ladies’ handkerchiefs, with coloured borders ; one and a half dozen cashmere fancy socks ; and a dozen coloured artificial silk bloomers, &c.: total value, £lO. Invercargill. —On the 3rd September last, the office of PARSONS LIMITED, Spey Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A short-wave Radio adapter, in a small brown box : value, £l2 12s. Identifiable.
Invercargill. —On the 17th ultimo, the SELF-HELP CO-OPERATIVE GROCERY STORE in Mary Street was broken into and the following stolen : Three rolls of bacon, four bags of sugar, 20 lb. of cheese, tea, a large quantity of plugs and tins of tobacco, cigarettes, chocolate, butter, flour, and jam, &c.: total value, £26 19s. 2d. Not identifiable.
