PROPERTY STOLEN.

Pukekohe. Between the 2nd and sth instant, a tool-box at the railway-station, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department) was broken open and the following stolen : Two large ratchets, about 8 in. long ; two ratchet keys, about 14 in. long ; an oval ratchet and key, about 4 in. long ; two small ratchets and keys ; and two spanners; the ratchets are branded “P. & T.,” and are for tightening telegraph-wires : total value, £1 14s. Identifiable. Suspicion is - attached to a Man (name unknown), age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 2 in., medium build, freckled complexion, ginger hair, splay feet; wearing dark-grey trousers and long dark overcoat.

Raglan. —On the 30th ultimo, the office of the NORTHERN STEAMSHIP COMPANY, was broken into and the following stolen : A safe (recovered) ; a cheque for £ll ss. lid. on the Commercial Bank of Australia, No. B 8947 ; a cheque for £lO 17s. lid. on the Commercial Bank of Australia, No. B 8447 ; a cheque-book on the Commercial Bank of Australia, Nos. B 8521 to B 8580 (about fourteen of the cheques have been used) ; a ledger-book ; a loose-leaf journal; a journal; a cash-book and sundry-account journal; a gentlemen’s brown overcoat; a gentlemen’s dark-brown overcoat; a green cushion ; and £3 17s. in money : total value, £4O 10s. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to two Men (names unknown) —(1) age about twenty height about 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, fair complexion and hair : and (2) age about twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, fair complexion, ginger hair; one has a long face, and both were wearing grey suits and cardigans. They were in possession of a seven-seater red sedan motor-car, believed to be a Reo make, bearing stolen registration-plates, Nos. 11333 and 14797. They are also suspected of breaking into the Raglan Harbour hkp^fTs^brMj^n^he^mp,ni^^^ Tauranga. —The properfyof GERALD ARNOLD WARD (deceased), a -32 calibre six-chambered Colt revolver, No. 13288.

Otorohanga. —lst instant, from the dwelling of WILLIAM RAE DEMPSTER, Whawharua, a silver hunting Waltham watch, may be No. 30580 ; a rolled-gold curb watch-chain, with a five-dollar gold pendant attached, dated 1902 ; and £2 6s. in money : total value, £B. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to Two Men (names unknown), age about thirty; one is taller and stouter than the other; wearing dark clothes.

Taumarunui. Between the Ist and 2nd ultimo, from a motor-car near the Chateau, National Park, the property of RICHARD HANDLEY, Taringamotu, a large pair of fieldglasses in black leather case ; value £3 15s. Identifiable.

Normanby.— On the 4th instant, the post-office at the way-station, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department) was broken into and 19s. 3d. in money stolen from the safe, which was opened by means of explosives.

New Plymouth. —lst ultimo, from the Oakura Public Hall, the property of HENRY OWEN STAVELEY, South Road, Oakura, a gentlemen’s silver lever wristlet-watch, No. 102722, “ Robinson, Wellington,” on dial ; value, £2. Identifiable.

Hastings.— NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT’S (Post and Telegraph Department) mail-bag stolen (see Police Gazette, 1931, page 599). It has been ascertained by the Hastings police that the two postal notes, Nos. B 305696 and D 486419, for £1 and ss. respectively, from H. R. Roberts, Southampton Street, Hastings, to David S. Laing and Son, Napier, were not in the mail-bag. Wellington.— Between the 20th and 21st August last, whilst in transit from New Plymouth to Wellington, the property of SCHNEIDEMAN AND SONS, two pairs of navy-blue serge trousers, sizes 3 and 5 : total value, £2 16s. Not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Reg. Hazelwood, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, slight build, dark complexion and hair; wearing a blue coat and fawn flannel trousers : and Robert Thompson, age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 8 in., tailor, medium build, ruddy complexion, ginger hair; wearing a brown suit and grey felt hat. The suspects may be identical with Two Men (names unknown), who were given a lift in a motor-lorry in which the parcel was being conveyed. Two pairs of trousers similar to those stolen, were sold to a second-hand dealer.

Wellington.— the 21st and 22nd July last, a store at Waterloo Quay, the property of the WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD, was broken into and the following stolen : Fifty-three globes, for use in Phillips brand electric torches, 35 volt ; a Niagara three-cell electric torch ; a Winchester three-cell electric torch; a number of torch batteries ; four pairs of gardening gloves ; &c. : total value, £4. Identification doubtful.

Wellington. Between the 3rd and sth instant, the shop of WILLIAM HURST BARTON, 55 Wellington Road, was broken into and the following stolen : Two model 84 Compact Atwater Kent electric radio-sets, 230 volts, Nos. 7634764 and 7634768 an electric toaster, Magnet make, catalogue No. D 5606 ; a small electric toaster; a Creda electric-iron, enamelled in fancy green ; a Hecla electric-iron ; an electric copper kettle, 2J pint, Xcel make ; a two-cell Niagara torch ; a small electric motor, j -power, believed Dunmore make, with small emery-wheel and pulley on end of shaft; a reel, of tinned copper fuse-wire ; about twenty-four electric torch-batteries ; about twelve Silvalux electric lamps ; a pair of insulated pliers ; a Rock immersion heater; and a pair of rubber insulated pliers, Krauter make : total value, £7l 18s. Wellington. —On the 15th August last, the dwelling of ISABELLA LINDSEY, 43 Cleveland Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A round gold pendant, with an amethyst set in centre and an amethyst drop at each side and bottom ; a fine gold neck-chain ; and a red tin imitation post-office pillar-box, containing about £1 15s. in money : total value, £3 15s. Wellington. —23rd August last, from the Jewish Club rooms, Cuba Street, the property of MYER LUBRANSKI, tailor, 9 Ross Street, Kilbirnie, a gentlemen’s herring-bone pattern brown tweed Raglan overcoat, “ Lubranski ” make, size 4; a gentlemen’s light-fawn Aquilla Borsalino hat, size 7 ; a gentlemen’s Comoy pipe ; and a pipe with gold band on stem : total value, £8 15s. Wellington. Between the 24th and 31st July last, whilst in transit between Dunedin and Wellington, per s.s. “ Gale,” the property of G. W. DAVIDSON, indent agent, twelve wool and cotton children’s -jackets of various colours ; total value, £5 I Is. Not identifiable.

Waimate.— On the night of the 4th instant, the dwelling of PATRICK PRINGLE DICKSON, Allen Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A cheque for £3 2s. 7d., on the Union Bank of Australia, No. 2A093190, drawn by W. H. Grylls in favour of Dickson and Son ; a cheque for 175., drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, No. 063332, drawn by J. C. Templer in favour of Dickson and Son ; a ladies’ black leather handbag, size 10 in. by 6 in. ; a ladies’ yellow leather handbag ; and £ll in money : total value, £ls 9s. 7d.
