Whangaroa. —3rd ultimo, on warrant for theft of a tin of benzine (recovered), value 10s., the property of Lane and Sons, farmers, Waiare, Harry Bates, alias Harold Raymond Bates, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar on right hand and on right side of nose ; black wart near corner of left eye ; dressed in a grey suit and soft felt hat. Auckland. —16th December last, on warrant for theft of two hams, value £1 2s. 9d., the property of William Gray, bacon-curer, Mount Roskill, Eric Harland, alias Waiter Eric Karlartd, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 7-f- in., motor-driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes ; smart appearance ; plausible. Auckland. —10th instant, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), James Doyle, alias Rossiter, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., draper, native of New Zealand, • medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, grey eyes, oast in right eye. Auckland. — 18th instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £lB 10s. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of Gordon Daniel McDonald, Monty McDonald, age thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes ; wart inside left middle finger; a quarter-caste Maori. Wilson (name probably fictitious), age twentyeight, height about 5 ft. 11 in., medium build, fair complexion, clean-shaved ; dressed in a grey suit, brown overcoat, and light-grey felt hat ; good appearance and address. Accused drew a cheque for £4 ss. on the National Bank of New Zealand, Wanganui, and uttered it to Andrew Lithgow, grocer, Glasgow Street. The cheque was from a cheque - book, Nos. X.48785-X.48800, stolen from the dwelling of Peter Doull, which was broken into on the 11th instant. The cheques were stamped “ Wanganui Bowling Club,” and several were signed “ John McFarlane, President.” The following articles were also stolen from Mr. Doull’s dwelling : A gentlemen’s gold Baume watch with “ P.D.” on front case, and “ Presented to Peter Doull at Dunedin on 30th November, 1915,” on inside case ; a pair of black Ross field-glasses ; and a ladies’ long gold chain with diamond - shaped cairngorm dr °p "A/3 /
Palmerston North. —14th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his three children, Edmund Hill Jaspers, age thirtyeight, height 5 ft. 8 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, medium build, blotched complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes ; probably dressed in a brownish-grey suit and felt hat; fond of drink. Arrears to 26th ultimo. £l4 ss. 2Lp,T i/ Wellington. —l7th instant, that they may be located and interviewed regarding their having made counterfeit coin—• (1) Paul Martin, age thirty -eight, height 5 ft. 11 in., herdtester and taxi-driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, mole on right side of nose ; dressed in a grey suit (he may be identical with Paul Augustine Martin, referred to in Police Gazette, 1931, page 54): and (2) Thomas Kelly, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 9 in., native of Australia, good build, dark complexion, hair turning grey ; a quarter-caste Australian aboriginal; dressed in a dark suit. After vacating (on the 22nd December last) a house, 146 Ghuznee Street, which they, with Enid McMahon, had occupied for a few days, portion of a counterfeiting mould and a quantity of plaster-of-paris were found on the premises. Wellington.— l7th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support pf his .wife and child, Alfred Donald Clevely, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 9|-in., ex-constable and plumber, native of England, blue eyes, good teeth, scar on left side of chest and near left shoulder, “ A.C.” on left wrist. Arrears to 10th instant, £294. There is also a notice of registration of the order to be served upon him. (See Police Gazette, 1931, page 64.)
Nelson. 2Bth ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Iris Aileen Norriss, and two children, Cedric Armond Norriss, age twenty height about 6 ft., labourer and milkman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, curly fair hair going bald, hazel eyes, decayed lower teeth ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and dark-grey felt hat. Christchurch. 22nd ultimo, on warrant, for false pretences, John Forsyth, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes ; dressed in -grey trousers and grey sports coat (no hat). He may assume the names Miles or Foster, and he is identical with John McCullough Forsyth, referred to in Police Gazette, 1931, page 2. Accused obtained £ls from Reuben Bradbury, 134 Ensors Road, by falsely representing that he had a grain-carting contract at Rangiora, and would, give complainant employment as motortruck driver conditional on his producing £ls as a bond.
