Accused obtained £6 from Felix C. Mullions, licensee, Whangaroa Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount. Ross (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 9 in., strong build, ruddy complexion, curly black hair, brown eyes, fairly long nose, projecting chin, may have no upper teeth ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and overcoat; quiet manner. Accused obtained £5 ss. from Jeannie Dowling, boardinghouse-keeper, by means of a valueless cheque for £lO, which he tendered in payment of £4 15s. for his accommodation for twelve days.

Gisborne. —29th -November last, on warrant of commitment to Gisborne Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 13s. fine and costs for helpless drunkenness, Alexander McGregor, alias Thomas McGregor, age fifty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, sallow complexion, black hair, grey eyes ; eaglet and serpent on left forearm, butterfly on left wrist, woman on right forearm, tower on back of left hand. Accused forged the signature “ B. Orr ” to a cheque for £3O, and uttered, it to Herbert Yates, outfitter, Broadway, in payment of £lO 3s. lOd. for goods (including a navy - blue suit, which he may be wearing), receiving £l9 16s. 2d. change. Taylor, age about twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and canvasser, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion and hair. Stolen from Courtenay Place, the motor-bicycle was subsequently found in possession of Clement Robert Lawson, who, with Ronald Alfred Edward Haylock, has been charged with the offence, and who accused Walsh, alias Taylor, of complicity, inasmuch as the latter made a fictitious receipt purporting to show that Lawson bought the motor-bicycle from J. Hill for £4O. No warrant.
