Benjamin Ansley, age twenty-four, height 6 ft. 1 in., clerk and motor salesman, native of England, thin build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes; wears spectacles. Accused obtained a tire, a tube, and two gallons of benzine, value £4 Is., from Harold Fox Draffin, garage proprietor, Pokeno, by falsely representing that he was employed by the Ebbett Motors, Hamilton. Thames. —21st ultimo, for breaking and entering the dwelling of David Smith, farmer, Omahu, with intent to commit a crime, Ernest Rylah, age seventeen, height 5 ft., labourer, native of England, slight build, fresh complexion, brown hair ; dressed in a grey suit and cap, and may have a suitcase and a dress-basket. Accused, who was employed by complainant, broke into a room and stole Is. He is also suspected of having stolen a gentlemen’s black - enamelled bicycle (No. 88032, upturned handles, black grips, Michelin front tire, John Bull back tire ; value, £6), the property of Roy Nortommrmer/ Qmahu. Te Aroha. ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Arnold Sutton, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer and motor-driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, one wrist injured ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and grey felt hat. In payment of his fare from Eureka to Waitoa accused tendered a valueless cheque for £5 fis. to Atha Leslie Dent, bus-owner, and obtained £3 cash. Ongarue. On or about the Ist August last, that he may be interviewed regarding two rifles found in his possession, and which were subsequently found to have been stolen from W. H. Staples and F. H. Longden, farmers, Mokauiti, William Walker, age seventeen, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes ; a half-caste Maori. The rifles are in possession of the Ongarue police.

Taumarunui. — Jack or John Simmons, false pretences : It has been ascertained by the Taumarunui police that he is identical with Ernest NichollS, alias Power, alias McGallum, referred to in Police Gazette, 1930, page 718, and Photographs, 1920, page 36. (See Polioezfiazette, 1930, page 776.)

Hawera. —On or about the 25th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a letter addressed to H. Frahm, Ohangai, containing two cheques drawn on the Melrose Dairy ,Co. and Meremere Dairy Co. in favour of 11. Frahm, for £l6 18s. Id. and £2l 6s. 3d. respectively, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department), —— Mansfield, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. in., labourer and engineer, native of England, medium build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, hazel eyes, scar on left side of forehead ; wearing a dark coat and vest, grey flannel trousers, navy-blue overcoat, and cap. The accused was a passenger from Hawera to Meremere by the rural delivery mail-car, and had an opportunity of stealing the letter. On the 26th ultimo both cheques were cashed at Hawera. Wanganui. 27th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s dark-blue nap double-breasted overcoat, with “ Burtons, Oxford Street, London,” on tag of coat, and a white silk scarf, value £2, the property of Alfred Jeffery, labourer, Riverview Boardinghouse, Edward John Tipton, age about fortythree, height 5 ft. 10 in., fireman and labourer, medium build, fair complexion, fair hair going bald; wearing moleskin trousers and felt hat, and carried a swag. Accused stayed at the above-mentioned house for one night, and he stole the articles from the room which he occupied.

Pahiatua. 24th ultimo, for false pretences, T. Baxter (name probably fictitious), age about forty-three, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair turning grey, prominent front teeth slightly crossed ; dressed in a blue suit and felt hat. Accused obtained £3 12s. fid. from Richard Evans, grocer, Main Street, by means of a valueless cheque on the Union Bank of Australia, Newton.
