Taumarunui. —Ist instant, on warrant for false pretences, Jack or John Simmons, age about forty-two,, height 5 ft. 10 in., boot-repairer, slight build, pale complexion, black hair turning grey, small eyes, scar on nose and on left cheek, clean-shaved ; well dressed in a navy-blue suit and grey overcoat. Accused obtained wood and coal, value 19s. 9d., and £6 os. 3d. cash from Herbert McKay, carrier, by means of a valueless cheque for £7, signed “A. Faulkner.” The cheque was drawn on one of three cheque-forms which accused borrowed from Mrs. Trengrove. Feilding. —6th ultimo, that he may be located and a statement obtained from him regarding stolen jewellery, Albert James Self, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 51 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, pale complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, scar over right eye and on base of right thumb, left little finger injured ; fond of drink. On 27th August last he stated to the Feilding police that whilst in prison he was informed by another prisoner that a quantity of stolen jewellery was concealed in a rubbish receptacle in a park at Dunedin, and that he possessed a plan of the locality. The Dunedin police have not- succeeded in discovering the jewellery. Self, therefore, is to be again interviewed, and, if possible, the plan referred to obtained from him.
