Accused paid a debt of 9s. and obtained £1 11s. in change from Richard McLeod, Great South Road, Ellerslie, by means of a valueless cheque for £2 drawn on the Union Bank of Australia, Te Awamutu. Putaruru. — 9th May last, on warrant for false pretences, Wilfred Spills*, ago twenty-two, height 5 ft. 9| in., labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a blue suit (no hat). He may be in possession of a blue Essex sedan five-seater motor-car (No. 38 : 485, engine No. 640284, chassis No. 576943), with card-table in back and some books and a radiator, value £l7O, the property of Jessie Watt, which was stolen from Cambridge on the night of the 17th instant. Accused obtained £lO and a ladies’ 9 ct. gold Swiss wristlet watch, square gold dial, fifteen jewels, with wide gold expanding bracelet, value £5 10s., from Weston James Smith, jeweller, The Square, by means of a valueless cheque for £ls 10s. The cheque was from the cheque-book of Christian Edward Peterson, cabinetmaker, 227 Victoria Avenue, which was stolen from his workshop on or about the 14th instant. Palmerston North.—On or about the 4th April last, on warrant for theft of a motor-cycle, value £47 (recovered), the property of Bruce and Bai, Palmerston North, Thomas James Dale, age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 8 in., cook, Native of England, slight build, pale complexion, dark hair. Accused purchased tho cycle on a hire-purchase agreement, and sold it before he had completed the payments.
