Suspicion is attached to McDonald (name probably fictitious), age twentyeight, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, fair hair, burn-scar on back of left hand, no teeth ; wearing a grey coat, patched blue trousers, grey felt hat, and dirty white sand-shoes.

Wellington. —On the 20th May last the dwelling of JACK ASHTON, drover, 74 Sydney Street, Petone, was broken into and the following stolen : a handbag and contents (recovered); a gentlemen’s silver hunting Rotherhams watch, Roman numerals; a gentlemen’s Pocket Ben watch, black luminous dial ; a gold watch-chain, plain links, with gold pendant, inscribed “J.
