Auckland. 7th instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £4 2s. 6d. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Henry John Walters, age fifty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., yardman, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, darkbrown hair, blue-grey eyes, scar on abdomen. Masterton. —20th July last, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s overcoat (recovered), value £7 10s., the property of Harold Vivian Marquet, 14 McKenna Street, George Edward Welch, alias Clarence Clancy, , age twenty - eight, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and carpenter, native of Ireland, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes ; two scars on forehead, scar on right side of upper lip and on chin, tip of left thumb missing. The coat was stolen from a dressing-room in the Arcade Hall, Queen Street, and was subsequently found by the Taumarunui police in the possession of accused. Wellington. —lsth instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Martha Lucy Thomson, 59 Adelaide Road, Charles James Henry Thomson, age forty-eight, height 5 ft. 9 in., engineer and saw-sharpener, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion and hair, dark bushy eyebrows, dark heavy moustache, no teeth; dressed in a brown suit, brown overcoat and shoes, and grey felt hat pulled well down in front. He may be identical with Charles J. H. Thompson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1928, page 3.

Joseph Samuel Benge, age fifty, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, curly black hair turning grey, brown eyes, no upper teeth, scar on back of head, tip of left middle finger missing; deaf; dressed in a brownish -grey suit and grey cap; pigeon-toed; rolling gait; fond of billiards.

Wellington. —9th instant, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for two months in default of paying £3O arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Jane Gubbins, Patrick Gubbins, age sixty-one, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, grey hair, blue eyes, carbuncle on one cheek quick gait. Nelson. —10th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for one month in default of paying £2O arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his child, Charles Edward Dorrant, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 7 in., painter and decorator, native of France, medium build, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue eyes; 18th Reinforcement, 2/2750,” butterfly,'bird, and “ Vera ”on right forearm. Kaikoura. —18th instant, on two warrants of commitment to Kaikoura Prison for seven days on each in default of paying £3 10s.' fines and costs for two breaches of his prohibition order, Charles Albert Owens, age about twentysix, height 5 ft. 11 in., butcher and labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and light felt hat.

Dareield. 6th instant, on warrant for false pretences, William Pitts, age thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build; dressed in a brown suit and brown felt hat. Accused obtained £ls from Edward Alfred Gillman, hotelkeeper, Kirwee, by means of a valueless cheque for £ls.
