Auckland. 22nd ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Alfred Arthur Hinds, alias Soldier Thompson, age fifty, height 6 ft., labourer, native of Australia, strong build, dark florid complexion, dark-grey hair going bald, grey eyes, sun, cross, and flags on right forearm, dagger on left forearm ; dressed in a greyish-blue suit with double-breasted coat and grey felt hat. Accused obtained £3O from Nicholas Anthony Kulus, carpenter, 72 Federal Street, by falsely representing that he had purchased from the Alliance Assurance Co. the wrecked trawler “ Thomas Bryan,” and that he would give complainant 33 per cent, of the profits derived from the sale of the property salvaged. Gisborne. ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Edward William Allen, alias William Wilson, age fortyone, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and taxi-driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, profusely tattoed on arms and on left leg. New Plymouth. —22nd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to New Plymouth Prison for ten days in default of paying £1 16s. fine and costs for failing to register a dog, Charlie Hannah, age about twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, Maori, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, prominent nose; usually wears riding breeches and leggings. f

Napier. —On or about the 21st May last, for theft of a gramophone and records (recovered), value £5, the property of William Abbott, steward, 104 Carlyle Street, Arthur Gorham, alias Michael Dowling, alias Anderson, age fortytwo, height 5 ft. 6J in., labourer, native of New Zealand, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, scar under left eye and on right temple ; clasped hands, heart, and woman’s

head on right arm, leaf on left wrist, anchor on left forearm. The gramophone, &c., were taken from complainant’s house and sold to a second-hand dealer. Bert Charles Bergersen has been convicted of the offence, and it has since been ascertained that he was assisted by Gorham, who is to be interviewed regarding the offence. No warrant. Wellington. 22nd ultimo, for theft of a suit (recovered), value £B, the property of Victor Cross, labourer, 92 Dixon Street, H. Cross, age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, sallow complexion, no front teeth. The suit was stolen from complainant’s room and sold to a dealer by a man of the description given above. He is believed to be identical with Harry Johnston, who shared the room with Cross, and he may be identical with Henry Samuel Johnson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1928, page 450, and Photographs, 1925, page 43.
