Whangarei.— 2nd March last, on warrant for false pretences, James Hamilton, age fifty, height 5 ft. lOf in., sailor, painter, and labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, ruddy complexion, hair turning grey, hazel eyes; cross, anchor, and heart on right forearm ; heart and anchor on left forearm ; left wrist broken; tip of left forefinger missing; left hand partially paralysed ; stooped. Accused obtained goods, value £2 14s. 9d., from Messrs. Drummond Bros., Cameron Street, by falsely representing that they were for J. A. Tims, Pakotai. Auckland. sth March last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £9 arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Henry Theodore Spencer, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., electrician, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a navy-blue or grey suit. Murray (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes ; dressed in a blue serge suit and felt hat ; slow gait. Accused obtained an A.P.M. camera, value £5 3s. 6d., and £2l 14s. cash from Ernest De Tourret, dealer, 161 Hobson Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £26 17s. 6d. on the Bank of Australia, Limited, signed “ E. Accused received 11s. from W. Gedge on terms requiring him to account for it to Ray Lennox Grimshaw, dry-cleaner, Darby Street, but fraudulently omitted to do so.

Panmure. —24th March last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 19s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Charles Pennell, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a dark suit and felt hat.

Te Puke. — ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £2 15s. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, Frederick John Redin, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and -mill hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes ; usually dressed in a grey suit. New Plymouth. ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Daisy May Busing, Reginald Walter Busing, age thirty-four, height 6 ft., engineer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, swelling on left temple, scar on nose and chin, butterfly on back of right hand, arms profusely tattooed ; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit with double-breasted coat, tan shoes, and grey felt hat. Feilding. —2lst ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of his release upon probationary license, Wallace James Clifford True, alias Clifford Hedges, age twentythree, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar on chin and below right knee, bowed legs ; dressed in a blue suit. Carterton. — On or about the 7th March last, on warrant for theft of carpenter’s tools (recovered), value £1 155., the property of Thomas McKenzie, farmer, Clareville, William Fletcher (name probably fictitious), age about forty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, medium build, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in a dark suit and black felt hat. The tools were stolen from an outhouse on complainant’s farm and sold to a second-hand dealer by a man of the description given.

Wellington. 2oth ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his two children in the care of the Education Department, James Warren Williams, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 10* in., painter, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, grey eyes, raised bone in right hand. Wellington. — ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Mona Edith Higgins, 65 Ludlam Street, Seatoun, Joseph Henry Higgins, age thirty, height about 6 ft., labourer and sawmill hand, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion and hair, hazel eyes, faint mark on bridge -of nose ; dressed in a navy-blue suit, green tweed coat, grey felt hat, and tan shoes ; pigeon-toed. Wellington. 23rd ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenence order for the support of his wife, Dominic Augustine Clausen, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes. Wellington. —On or about the Ist March last, on warrant for theft as a servant, Arthur Hobbs, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., salesman and motor-driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair . complexion, fight-brown hair, blue eyes, short quick gait; usually dressed in a light-grey suit, soft collar, brown shoes with pointed toes (seldom wears a hat); fond of drink and gambling. He is in possession of a lightblue five-seater Essex Sedan motor-car, Registered No. 83-535. Accused, who was employed by Joseph Nathan and Co., received from Gilbert John Neal the sum of £lO on terms requiring him to account for it to his employers, but fraudulently omitted to account for £6 16s. of that amount. He was under recognizance conditioned for his appearance at the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, on the 26th ultimo, but failed to appear. West (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-six, medium height; dressed in a fight-coloured suit. Accused obtained £2 from Francis William Carey, manager, New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, by falsely representing that he did business with the Hawera branch of that firm, and that his son had failed to come along with his hand-bag which contained his cheque-book. He may be identical with Man (name unknown) who obtained a radio set from George Gould Macquarrie by false pretences, vide Police Gazette, 1928, page 280. Christchurch. On or about the 18th ultimo for forgery and uttering R. Evens (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-eight, height 6 ft. slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair brushed back, clean-shaved ; dressed in a light-grey suit (no hat), and was wearing Harold Lloyd glasses ; good appearance. On the 18th ultimo the above-described man purchased goods, value 3s. 4d., from Ottor August Danholt, 123 Ferry Road, and uttered in payment thereof a forged £1 note on the National Bank of New Zealand. Five similar notes were uttered to various storekeepers. The forged notes are colour photographic reproductions on “ Bond ” paper, which is inferior to that used in genuine notes, and the signature on each is “ C. A. Stevens,” inked over with mauve aniline ink. All the notes are dated Ist June, 1925,” and the numbers commence with “ C 546 ” which has been reproduced, the remaining figures being inserted in ink by the forger. No warrant.

Dunedin. 2sth February last, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 ss. balance of fine and costs for assault, George Simon Ross, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., seaman and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, crown and. anchor on left forearm; lifebuoy, “ Kia Ora,” &c., on right forearm usually slovenly dressed in a dark tweed suit, felt hat, and tan boots. Accused obtained seven pigs, value £2l os. 6d., from William Baird, farmer, Momona, by falsely representing that they were for D. W.
